IT'S ADVERTISING, SILLY! Race teams who take their sponsorship search seriously fully realize they are selling advertising.  The term “sponsorship” almost conjures up thoughts of some non-profit boy scout club or church group.  Truth is, when it comes to selling your motorsports program to a potential business, you are competing against many other media forms, including television, radio, the internet and print. For the last couple of years, Joey Saldana has been a master of the big, fast half-mile tracks that the World of Outlaws visit. This season he and his team are showing their versatility by winning a number of times on short tracks, those 3/8-mile and shorter. Of his 11 wins this season, seven have come on short tracks. This weekend he'll have a chance to compete twice more on high-banked bullrings, as the World of Outlaws open the Independence Day weekend on Friday, July 3 at Huset's Speedway in South Dakota, followed by a stop at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska on Saturday, July 4. He was victorious last weekend on a tight, high-banked short track at U.S. 36 Raceway in Missouri. Press Release (07-3-09)

After a fifteen year hiatus, Steve Sainsbury returned to racing in 2009.  Tuesday night Sainsbury made that return worthwhile as he drove his kart into victory lane at Charter Raceway Park. In Briggs Heavy feature action, Derrick Quella captured his first victory in the series when early race leader Bryan Tolan was forced to retire with mechanical issues. Press Release (07-3-09)

The World of Outlaws will celebrate the Fourth of July in style this weekend, as the series heads to the always racy Eagle Raceway in Nebraska for the annual running of the Eagle Nationals at the high-banked 1/3-mile bullring on Saturday. It will mark the series lone visit of the 2009 campaign to the Cornhusker state. Craig Dollansky was victorious at the track last season, taking the lead from 20-time series champion Steve Kinser on the fourth lap and holding him off for the remainder of the 40-lap event to score his third career triumph at Eagle Raceway. Press Release (07-1-09)

After Mother Nature was victorious in the World of Outlaws first scheduled event of the season at Huset's Speedway in South Dakota back in early May, the series returns to the high-banked bullring on Friday, July 3 to kick off the Holiday weekend with a full night of racing. The event will be the first of six consecutive races on tracks 3/8-mile or smaller as the schedule really picks up in the next week and a half. Press Release (07-1-09)

A huge fireworks display will cap off a big night of racing Friday, July 3 at Luxemburg Speedway presented by Pepsi Cola Bottling. To accommodate the fireworks display the racing program July 3 will kick off 15 minutes earlier than normal at 6:45 p.m. The third-mile, clay oval located at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds has boasted the largest car counts in the area, averaging more than 120 cars weekly in it's five division program. Press Release (06-29-09)

Egg Harbor's Tom Stark survived heavy pressure from New Franken's Shawn Kilgore to capture the IMCA modified feature win at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway. Stark shot out to the early race lead, followed closely by Tim Czarneski.  Stark and Czarneski ran the top groove around the track, with Mike Wedelstadt and Kilgore down low.  A late caution bunched the field, with Kilgore getting past Wedelstadt to grab the second spot.  Kilgore tried to make a move down low on Stark, but Stark powered to victory.  Kilgore settled for second, followed by Wedelstadt, Todd Dart and Jay Matthias. Press Release (06-28-09)

Six-time track champ Brian Mullen and son Mike finished one-two to capture the top IMCA Modified prizes in the second round of the 4th annual big money Badger State Showdown Friday night at the Luxemburg Speedway in Luxemburg. Claiming the lion’s share of the purse in the Speedway’s other divisions were Brian Bruechert in the IMCA Stock Cars, Eric Arneson in the IMCA Northern Sport Mods and Chris Christensen in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Press Release (06-27-09)

Other round one victories went to Troy Muench in the IMCA Stock Cars, Tracy Wassenberg in the IMCA Northern Sport Mods and Frank Paul in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Press Release (06-26-09)

The weather heated up the action at the Charter Raceway Park fifth-mile oval in Beaver Dam.  The Tuesday Night Kart Series completed a night of features in record time with all winners making return visits to victory lane. Elijah Koenig drove into victory lane for the second time this season in the Briggs Sealed Box Stock division feature race.  Starting on the pole, Koenig bolted to the lead at the start and never looked back.  T.J. Spierowski, the only other division feature winner this season, followed in second but soon found himself in the clutches of Christopher Peterson. Press Release (06-25-09)

Two Rivers’ Kyle Kudick made the high line work and shot past Brett Wenzel with 3 laps to go, winning his 1st IMCA modified feature of the season at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway. IMCA hobby stock points leader Frank Paul bested Brandon Peterson by a bumper to win his 3rd feature of the season.  Peterson closed in on Paul with 2 laps to go, and they went side by side to the checkers.  Luke Lemmens finished third, followed by Aaron Zellner and Jarred VanLaanen. Press Release (06-21-09)

Driving a borrowed race car, Seymour's Mike Mullen passed Billy LeMieux of Sturgeon Bay for the lead on lap four and kept the lead through several caution periods to win the 23 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Mullen also won his heat, scoring a sweep for the evening. A total of 125 cars were on hand including 32 IMCA modifieds, along with 33 stock cars, 25 northern sportmods, 17 hobby stocks and 18 sport fours. Press Release (06-21-09)

Defending IMCA national northern sportmod champion Luke Wanninger of Jefferson, Iowa has filed an entry for the two day, Badger State Showdown presented by CZ's Bushville Lanes and Pro Label Thursday June 25 and Friday June 26 at Luxemburg Speedway. "I actually tied with Tim (Jorgenson) in points, but I had more feature wins and that was the tiebreaker," said Wanninger. Press Release (06-19-09)

Car counts and competition heated up on the track at Charter Raceway Park on Tuesday night.  Up for grabs in the feature races were qualifying positions and valuable points for the 2009 Wisconsin Dirt Championship Series as Tuesday Night Karting series regulars battled with a number of newcomers to the fifth-mile oval. The outside lane proved to be the best place to be as Spierowski took over the lead with two turns left in the race.  Steinke’s low line cost not only the lead but also second position as Peterson moved ahead of her as well.  Spierowski’s win was his second in a row and third overall this season. "This is just amazing, just to get the chance to race with Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart and to pass Kenseth for the win is just a neat deal," a smiling Wimmer stated in victory lane after passing Kenseth with 11 laps to go in the 100-lap feature event.  "My car was good and I thought I was a little bit better than Matt and I was just waiting, biding my time to get by him and finally got that opportunity and it happened." Press Release (07-1-09)

Tony Stewart strolled into the pits Tuesday afternoon with his usual stubble and a smile on his face. Neither was going anywhere anytime soon. "I like the extra stuff on my schedule," Stewart said before finishing fifth in the Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge late-model race. "I like the extra work. I still do get a chance to do what I like to do, and that's coming to places like this and getting to play on an off night." Wisconsin Journal Sentinel (07-1-09)

But now in this third season and first flying the banner of Lamers Motor Racing, the sky is the limit for the 19-year-old driver from Hortonville. Bohlen is racing the Ford Fusion that Duchow drove to the championship last year. It was No. 66 when Duchow raced it. This year it's No. 81. Appleton Post Crescent (06-28-09)

Multi-time track champ Gregg Haese celebrated a happy homecoming by scoring a convincing win in the Vercauteren Memorial 50 lap Mid-American Series feature Saturday night at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. Only two other features were recorded on the night, as a lengthy rain delay mid-program forced three division main events to be cancelled due to the track’s curfew.  Prior to the curtain falling, Matt Cherney and Chad Vetting were winners in the Super Stocks and the IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds respectively. Rookie Cole Howland is the other, but his is a Chevy crate motor, while Herbst’s is a Ford. “We came to the track two weeks ago and put the 9-to-1 (regular race engine) in,” Herbst said. “We never got to use it (because of the rain). We’re going to put it back in.” “This is probably the best one (car) I have ever had,” Herbst said. “For consistency, for drivability, for setting it up. We got this new Race Tech Chassis, and it has been really good.” LaCrosse Tribune (06-26-09)

Steve Carlson looked at the last 50-laps of the Race for the Gold Bronze Race as a regular Saturday night shootout as he went on to win his second straight American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment race at Dells Raceway Park.  His fifth overall win in front of an awesome crowd at the 1/3-mile facility. "Isn't that great?" a smiling Carlson said in victory lane.  "There isn't much of a second groove here and everybody is on the bottom racing around so that is where I raced.  You are going to rub fenders, its just the nature of the Dells.  I had a really good car, I had really good bite in the turns.  I could really turn the car low and stay on the throttle and really get a jump on those guys."
