Thursday Night Thunder Notes: Great crowd on hand for some great racing. Show was smooth running and there was great racing in every division. Terry Baldry was back in Chris Grimes car, Eddie Muenster was back in Matt Maynard's car, and Nick Mahlik was back. John Meidam and Eddie Muenster both suffered motor problems and weren't able to run their events. In the Limited Late Model feature there was some agressive drivers and emotions got high. Jim Duchow was involved in a wreck and let his emotions get to him. We understand penalties are in the coming. (07-3-09)
Sunday Night July 5th is Round 2 of the Pepsi Challenge. A 60 Lap Super Late Model Feature will headline the racing events along with a Roll Over Contest. Super Late Models will be joined by: Late Models, Midwest Sportsman, Thunderstock, Slinger Bee’s Figure 8’s, Modified, Westbury Bank Speedway Guest Cars and one on one spectator races. Several racers from yesteryear will be in attendance at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday, July 18 as the track hosts it's Legends night presented by Pepsi Cola. In addition, the track will host a special "Christmas in July" theme. The Milwaukee-based Vintage Modified stock car club will have several restored modifieds, coupes and sportsman cars on display at the track. Last month, Chris Wimmer picked up a huge win at Iowa Speedway when he captured his first American Speed Association Midwest Tour win. 45 days later, he passed the 2009 Daytona 500 champion to win The Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge at Madison International Speedway. "This is just amazing, just to get the chance to race with Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart and to pass Kenseth for the win is just a neat deal," a smiling Wimmer stated in victory lane after passing Kenseth with 11 laps to go in the 100-lap feature event. Tony Stewart strolled into the pits Tuesday afternoon with his usual stubble and a smile on his face. Neither was going anywhere anytime soon. Chris Wimmer not only won Tuesday night’s All-Star Challenge, he also earned praise from NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader Tony Stewart. Wimmer passed Cambridge native and 2003 Cup champion Matt Kenseth with 11 laps left to clinch victory in the 100-lap super late model race in front of approximately 6,000 fans at Madison International Speedway. “I don’t know much about him, but it doesn’t take long to figure out how good he is,” Stewart said of Wimmer. “Obviously, you go beat Matt Kenseth like that, it’s a big deal. Ross Kenseth recently completed his sophomore year at St. Bede Academy in Peru, Ill., and recorded some stellar grades. Dale Prunty scored his first career super late model feature victory Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway leading a Prunty party across the finish line with older brothers Dennis and David Prunty close behind in second and third place respectively. “It’s been a long time coming as we’ve been going on three years now without a feature win,” Prunty told the large crowd. “Dennis (Prunty) ran me clean and we raced hard all night and David (Prunty)was right there too,” Prunty said describing the race with his brothers, “What can I say, I just raced ‘Mr Excitement’ (nickname for Dennis Prunty) and we didn’t spin out.” Press Release (06-29-09)
Tanner Bohlen has been doing as well as could be expected in his first two seasons of limited late model racing. But now in this third season and first flying the banner of Lamers Motor Racing, the sky is the limit for the 19-year-old driver from Hortonville. Multi-time track champ Gregg Haese celebrated a happy homecoming by scoring a convincing win in the Vercauteren Memorial 50 lap Mid-American Series feature Saturday night at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. Only two other features were recorded on the night, as a lengthy rain delay mid-program forced three division main events to be cancelled due to the track’s curfew. Zack Riddle held off a strong field of Rockweiler Insulation Late Models to win the Construction Labor Management 40 at Madison International Speedway on Friday night. Four other drivers also took their cars to victory lane with Jay Kalbus (Brown Heating and Air Conditioning Area Sportsman), Terry Ciano Jr. (Weaver Auto Parts Hobby Stocks), Kyle Padfield (Roto Rooter Bandits), and Max McNamara (Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends) earning wins. J. Herbst, fresh off his first Kwik Trip Late Model feature win of the season, was enjoying the moment with his family late Saturday night. Herbst is one of two drivers in the Kwik Trip Late Model Division whose car is powered by a crate motor. Rookie Cole Howland is the other, but his is a Chevy crate motor, while Herbst’s is a Ford. “We came to the track two weeks ago and put the 9-to-1 (regular race engine) in,” Herbst said. “We never got to use it (because of the rain). We’re going to put it back in.” “This is probably the best one (car) I have ever had,” Herbst said. “For consistency, for drivability, for setting it up. Thursday Night Thunder Notes: There were some new cars last night, #98 Nick Mahlik, #2 Jordan Thiel, #45 Mike Gardner and #67 Gregg Haese. Lowell Bennett suffered motor problems during practice and pulled out the back up car. The back up car we understand was setup for Slinger Super Speedway, Lowell ended up driving the #2 of Jordan Thiel. Gregg Haese was shaking the car down for the Dixieland 150 and possibly making a change in his schedule to running WIR weekly. Robb Vanderloop scored his first feature win in many years of trying. During his interview he mentioned he cut the front stub off his car and had Pathfinder Chassis put a new stub on it over the winter. David Satorius scored his first feature win in the Super Stock division. (06-26-09)
