The contest went green-to-checkered without a yellow. Heavy rains fell during the early laps of the IMCA modified feature, forcing track officials to cancel that feature race, along with the IMCA hobby stock and sport four features as well. Points and money were divided equally amongst all three divisions. 131 cars were on hand, including 38 IMCA modifieds, 35 IMCA stock cars, 25 street stocks, 15 IMCA hobby stocks and 18 sport fours. K.J. Skelton needed just 11 laps to move from his sixth place starting spot to the front in the MSA feature at Monster Hall Raceway. For Skelton it was his second A-Main win of the season. A lap two crash knocked T.J. Luedke and Troy Wondra out of the race after they collided with Dean Erfurth. Erfurth's continued in his damaged car and managed a tenth place finish. At Plymouth last week, The Midwest Sprintcar Association joined two other divisions in a special program to observe promoter Tom Mueller's 58th birthday. The sprinters ran a 58-lap A-Main divided in two 29-lap segments. After the first segment the then race leader Troy Hepfner, spun a wheel to determine a 2-4-6- or 8 car invert for the secend segment. He spun a six putting series points leader Doug Schenck on the pole and he would never be passed for his third straight win on the Plymouth oval. Danny Schlafer won the 25-Lap A-Main at Powercom Speedzone last week leading every lap. For Schlafer the win ended a string of misfortune that saw him watching the main events from the sidelines and falling in the point standings. K.J. Skelton established a milestone by making his 100th consecutive A-Main start. Since joining the sprint car ranks in 1997, he has never missed an A-Main in this series. Todd Hepfner became the first repeat winner of the 2003 season at the Hales Corner Speedway when the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series visited the Hales Corners Speedway on Saturday night. His second straight win in the series also signaled that the team is ready for a run to the end of the season as the tour began it's 2nd half of the season. In victory lane, Hepfner thanked his sponsors and team for sticking with him through a rough start to the season. “We're back to where we should be and it feels real good,” stated an elated Hepfner. “When I saw Reinke try to take me on the outside, I knew I had to move up or he would have just driven by me. When I did move up, I found out why he was up there and I was able to find a good line.” When asked about the finish, Reinke simply stated “I just ran out of laps. I knew that when he saw me try him on the outside, he would be up there and be harder to pass. I was trying to set him up for another shot, but just ran out of laps.” IRA Official Press Release - Paul Pittman column - Points - IRAsprints.com (07-21-03)

Todd Dart outran everything Saturday night at the Thunderhill Raceway. Not only did Dart top the field of 19 other drivers in the Coca Cola 20 but he took the checkered flag just as the rain started to fall over the track forcing the cancellation of the remainder of the night’s feature events. That left Dart, Matt Junio in the IMCA Stock Car division and Troy Muench in the street stocks as the only feature race winners. The IMCA Hobby Stock and 4-Cylinder mains were both rained out. Run before one of the largest crowds of the season, a total of 97 drivers checked in for battle led by 28 IMCA modifieds. Fans witnessed 17 events prior to the rain setting in. The Midwest Sprintcar Association provided plenty of fireworks on the track with an A-Main that wasn¹t decided until the final lap. When the 20-lap event concluded Doug Schenck was in victory lane celebrating his fifth series A-Main win. Schenck¹s win came after the front two cars dropped out late in the race. It appeared that Jerry Ski was about to complete a strong run with a win, but as the pack started the final lap Troy Wondra flipped after making contact with another car. While Wondra¹s car was flipping second place K.J. Skelton couldn¹t avoid striking him and breaking his front axle. Then on the restart, Ski¹s car lost power and Schenck who was cautiously driving a car with failing brakes was at the point and headed for the win after starting the race in the 6th row. The MSA will move on to the Powercom Speedzone in Oshkosh on July 15th, and then compete at Plymouth on July 16th in an event that will feature twin 29-lap A-Mains. Todd Dart in the IMCA modified feature at the Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay Saturday night. Close feature finishes were the order of the day, as Cole's narrow win was duplicated by Charlie Kroll in IMCA stock cars, James Tebon in the street stocks, IMCA hobby stocker David Lane and Dan Gregorich in the 4 cylinders. The IMCA stock car feature provided nearly a carbon copy finish, as two-time defending champ Craig Paque saw a late race charge on Kroll fall just short. Press Release (07-06-03)

The Midwest Sprintcar Association made its first appearance at the Grant County Speedway and two-time defending champion K.J. Skelton with a daring pass off turn four on the final lap won the A-Main. Skelton despite starting on the pole had to come back after dropping to third to notch his second checkered flag of the evening. Dean Erfurth who started next to Skelton, jumped ahead on the first lap and led the entire race until Skelton edged him out by several feet. Skelton¹s late pass came after he drove hard into turn three and rode the high side of the track near the wall and then slashing between a lapped car and Erfurth as he crossed the finish line. Skelton said in victory lane that his car didn¹t have the right gears so he had to search for the right line which was the high line that took him to victory in the final laps. Todd Hepfner became the 12th different driver in as many races to visit victory lane as the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series pulled into the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds on Thursday night for the 3rd Annual “Cheesetown Showdown” presented by Gibbsville Cheese. Hepfner, the 31st car to time, started things off right by turning a lap in 12.170 seconds in his Hepfner Racing Products Eagle. “We've been struggling all year long,” Hepfner stated on the front stretch before the National Anthem. “I think we've found all the gremlins now and we're ready to get back to racing.” IRA Official PR Points IRAsprints (07-04-03)

We are told that Tom Gee Jr.'s car was found legal after checking it at the engine builders. We are told the reason the engine checked out good at the engine builders is because there is a special tool to be used on the spec engines to check them. The spec engines use vortec heads which take a longer spark plug which are removed to pump the engine (to find compression ratio). The tool the club had was not designed for the spec engines which didn't allow it to go in as the spark plugs do. (07-29-03)

The regular flagman at WIR on Thursday's is Pat Barrett who was not at the track last Thursday and he won't be at this weeks races. Pat is missing these two weeks because he works in race control for the International Truck and Engine Corporation Midwest Series. That is the only reason Pat was not there, no change was made as some were commenting on. (07-23-03)

We are told there was a change of how the International Truck and Engine Corporation Midwest Series latest event at I-94 was going to be run. There were teams who did not bring pit crew along because there was not suppose to be pit stops. (07-05-03) UPDATE: We are told that this change was made as a safety move because the track was tearing up the tires badly. (07-05-03) Apparently Ron Breese was heard saying he might not run the next series event because of the rule change. He was also heard saying he was going to take this up with Nascar in Daytona.
