Dirt Racing
Luxemburg Speedway track officials have announced that a car show and practice day will be held at the third-mile, clay oval on Saturday, April 24. The car show and practice are open to driver's in any divisions. Cars will be put on display on the midway behind the grandstand beginning at 10 a.m. The practice session for all divisions will commence at noon. Press Release (03-28-04)

Langlade County Speedway will add the I.M.C.A. Sunoco Stock Car division to its Friday night programs this season. Stocks at Langlade County will be part of the Jet Racing Northern Region. Opening night at the half-mile oval is scheduled for May 7, with the point season continuing through Aug. 27. Five thousand yards of the best clay in Wisconsin has been added to the track surface in preparation for the upcoming season, Lund said. Who Won (03-19-04)

After a week in which we have received overwhelming support from drivers, fans and promoters, the Northern DirtCar Racing Association (NDRA) has decided to suspend operations. With the 2004 season only a month away, we felt that in the best interest of all parties involved, now was not the time to continue with our organization. With 7 years of experience in an open wheeled cockpit, steering a 360 sprinter around Wisconsins ovals, Andy Hunt has decided that it is now time to step up to the Outlaws and a whole new level. Big news when it comes to Wissota. The rumors are true. Chris Stepan and myself have formed a new sanctioning body called the Northern Dirtcar Racing Association. This organization will in fact run on Goodyear tires. We have secured tremendous financial backing from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. as well as Stacker 2. Our organization will comprise of seven board members consisting of two full time employees of NDRA, a NDRA licensed driver and 4 track promoters. Racin Without Politics (03-02-04)
The Langlade County Speedway banquet was held on Saturday, February 28, at the Indian Springs Lodge in Carter, Wis. More than 300 drivers, crews, family members, and fans packed in the banquet hall for a buffet-style dinner, awards banquet and a deejay. The track champions were recognized, as were the rookies of the year, and the checks were distributed from the points fund. Who Won (03-02-04)

Asphalt Racing
Sources tell us Eric Hopfensperger has picked up a Limited Late Model and will run Red, White & Blue, some Thursday nights along with some specials. His main focus for 2004 will be going after the 2004 Super Stock championship, but he plans to move up to the Limited Late Model division full time in 2005. (03-30-04)
Sources tell us the word up Michigan is Nick Anderson who raced street stocks the last couple of years at Norway Speedway will be moving up to Late Models in 2004. (03-29-04)
Brad Mueller has announced that his 2004 plans are to race at SLINGER, WCS, MARS and the Sunoco Super Series with a 2 car effort in '04. BMRE (03-29-04)
Slinger Super Speedway Season Opener has been pushed back one week due to delays in pre-season planning and speedway operations. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, your teams and your sponsors. The Miller Lite Twin 75's Spring Opener will be held on April 25th with competition in the Late Model and Midwest Sportsman divisions. We (Brewcrew Motorsports and driver Rod Brew) plan to open our season in Kaukauna with their spring opener ( May 16th). We are still undecided as to whether we will run the entire MARS Series or just run select events and specials. Other shows of interest are: Wisconsin Dells, Grundy County, La Crosse, and a few WCS events! The team has also signed on Ideal Doors as an associate sponsor. Brewecrew Motorsports. (03-29-04)

We saw pictures of Terry Miller's Super Stock car last night at the meeting and he is running a new body which pretty much looks like a Late Model body. We do have to say the body look very sharp on the car! (03-23-04)

BUCO Racing will be unveiling their new look for 2004 at the "Big Event For Kids" at Shopko Hall in Green Bay on Saturday April 3rd. The event is open to anyone and is geared towards kids. It gives kids the chance to interact with things such as wreckers, backhoes, Packer autographs and race cars amongst many other events. Tickets are $7.00 at the door or $5.00 in advance. The advance tickets can be purchased at participating Encompass Child Care centers. The doors open at 9:00 A.M. and it runs until 4:00 P.M. We just returned from the Fox River Racing Club's monthly meeting, alot was discussed, some of it was an overview of the other meetings. There is a car show tentatively set for April 17th at Tornado's Restaurant which is located right next to Timbler Rattlers Stadium. There will be a buck night during the middle of the season which will be $1.00 Beer and Hotdogs. Their was discussion on having Late Model teams buy 4 new tires the first week and then they wouldn't get 4 new tires until the middle of the season. Some new ways of branding the tires were discussed including marking the tires on the inside. (03-22-04)
Bobby McDonald will make a comeback to Wisconsin International Raceway this season in the Super Late Model division. Bob tells our sources that the car is complete, he is just waiting on the motor from B & B Racing Engines. (03-22-04)
Sources tell us that there might be a "shake up" taking place in the teching staff at Norway. Appears there was some concern by drivers about the teching last season which has brought this on. Sources are digging up some more information on this for us. (03-16-04) UPDATE: Sources tell us it's official that Mike "Lumpy" Lemke is no longer the inspector at Norway Speedway. Received an email from Lowell Bennett this evening letting us know of his plans for the 2004 season. He will continue to race weekly at Slinger Super Speedway, race special events through out Wisconsin and hopefully run a couple Nascar Busch Series races. (03-18-04)
Mike King Jr. has his Limited Late Model up for sale on Ebay again. 2000 Randercar Chassis raced 1 season at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Wisconsin finishing 3rd in points. Recently updated with brand new Carrera coil over shocks, new Afcoil springs, Appleton rack, New 99 Monte Carlo body off of a show car(never raced) with lightweight hood and roof. (03-18-04)

Team sources tell us that if Gregg Haese is unable to secure a quality ride for 2004, he will most likely drive for himself. Gregg is currently rebuilding the car that he raced at WIR in 2002. Gregg is getting a new motor to run Slinger and he is going to try to race weekly while running for Rookie of the Year. This all depends on sponsorship. (12-11-03) UPDATE: Team sources tell us that Gregg and his team have completely rebuilt the car and have hung a new body. They have a new engine from B & B Racing Engines and will be racing mainly at Slinger in 2004. Sources also tell me Gregg would like to run WIR, but due to a difference in rules he would have to run a 2 barrell and the car wouldn't be competitive. Our fabulous 4 cylinder division provides our fans with great four wide racing, spectacular rollovers, and even comedy on a nightly basis at Norway Speedway. Just as importantly, the division has been a great feeder program for our Pepsi late model and Auto Value super stock divisions. Here is a rundown of a few of the notables that have moved on up. Scott Wimmer mentioned on the Todd and Eddie show on Sunday morning that he is pretty sure he will be in Wisconsin this summer for the Slinger Nationsl. Scott said he is actually thinking about putting his own car back together to run this show. Maybe Paul Menard.....Some tracks didn't run a Remax race or the style of late model that we were running at the time, so it just didn't work out. Slinger stands out as one that I haven't been to, but I'd love to go to it sooner rather than later. Summer Nationals perhaps?!? BGN Racing (03-09-04)
Less than 2 months from the season opener at Wisconsin International Raceway it appears teams are starting to finalize their plans, while most have their plans all set. There are still a few teams that we are waiting to receive information from as far as their 2004 plans. We also understand there are still a few teams working on putting some deals together to make a return to WIR. As things unfold you will hear about it first here on Wisconsin Racing Photos Online. Tom Gee Jr. tells us he will be back at WIR in the Limited Late Model division in 2004. He will continue to race weekly along with racing the specials. Tom tells us that he is currently seeking a primary sponsor for the 2004 season. (01-13-04) UPDATE: Tom Gee Jr. tell us he will be carrying the colors and main sponsorship for Mikel Bushmaker @ Five-Star Mortgage again this season in the limited late model division at WIR. The team will also will also be competing in a few late-model specials this season, 2-3 pre season and a few more as the schedule allows. Mikel Bushmaker and Tom Gee Motorsports have also teamed up and made a donation to the FRRC for Kids Club as the Grand Prize donors for all three Triple Crown nights. (03-8-04)

We are told that Motor Masters Racing Engines has purchased Kippley Performance's Engine Dyno which should be ready sometime this summer. As many of you are aware Rick Kippley moved down South to work with the #32 Nextel Cup Team. (03-07-04)
Sources tell us that street stock racer Scott Lehman will be purchasing a Limited Late Model, no word on his plans for 2004. We should know if the deal to buy the car is done by this weekend. Team sources tell us that things are starting to come together for Strupp Enterprises for the 2004 season. Mike Strupp's car is fresh off the jib at Lefthander and he has a new motor for this season. Mike will again race at Slinger Super Speedway weekly. Tony Strupp has ordered a brand new car for the 2004 season, so he will have 2 cars at his disposal. No word on Tony's plans for the 2004 season at this time. (03-05-04)

Sources tell us they spoke with Kenny Van Wychen and his plans for the 2004 season are to race figure eight, street stock and a 4 cylinder weekly. His son Nate wil continue to race in the Limited Late Model division and the figure 8 division. (03-05-04)

Matt Derricks and Winner Circle Chassis are busy getting the cars ready for the 2004 season, Matts first season racing in the Limited Late Model division. View some pictures of their progess. (02-24-04) UPDATE: Noticed the team will utilize 2 engine combinations in 2004, one being the GM Crate engine which will be used to race with the ASA Late Models at Madison. And WIR???? (02-25-04) UPDATE 2: A lease agreement was signed 11-26-03 between M&M Motorsports (Mark VanStraten and Mike Kelly) and Matt Derricks Motorsports (Matt and Mark Derricks) giving Matt a minimum of 25 shows for the 2004 season in two cars prepared by M&M. In 2004, Matt will run the Season Opener, Red, White & Blue Series, Budweiser Triple Crown Series and two other regular Thursday Night Thunder Races at WIR. This will allow him to retain his rookie status. MDM is also planning to run a series of three 100 lap races at Norway, MI and scattered appearances at Madison, Jefferson and La Crosse speedways to make up the 25 events in the contract. Touring Racing
ASA's 2003 Rookie of the Year Reed Sorenson turns 18 today, making him eligible for NASCAR. Sorenson, already signed on with Chip Ganassi Racing's driver development program, has plans to make some Busch starts this season. BGN Racing (02-05-04) UPDATE: Being part of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates is definitely an honor for me. Sorenson, who is part of the driver development program at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, also plans to test the water in several other racing series during the 2004 season. Through a collaborative effort with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Sorenson will compete in select ARCA and NASCAR Busch Series races in 2004. Jayski (03-29-04)
The TK Racing team and driver fast Eddie Hoffman have released an agressive 2004 schedule. Over 50 dates have been set from Minnesota to Tennessee & Ohio to California The familar red and & White #8 will race for championship honors in the Nascar Autozone Midwest Series along with some Nascar Autozone Southeast Series Races, Sunoco Super Series races, Wisconsin Challenge Series races & the newly formed ASA Late Model Series. ASA Racing held practice today, Session 1 - Session 2 - Session 3. ASA Racing (03-26-04) Qualifying Results - Starting Line Up - ASA Racing (03-27-04) RACE RESULTS: Butch Miller took the season opener win followed by Travis Kittleson, Stephan Leight and Reed Sorenson. After concerns were raised by several drivers about the planned method on double-file restarts, ASA officials went back to the original choose rule that was announced at the annual banquet. On restarts for the SK Hand Tool 200, each driver will be allowed to choose the low or high grove at the start-finish line. ASA Racing (03-27-04)
Mark Gundrum, who has been a staple in the ASA offices for the last five-plus years, has left his duties to pursue other opportunities. Several of the traveling officials with the series just found out the info this past weekend. Gundrum, who also owns a percentage of the series, served as the series Vice President. ASA Racing has changed their qualifying procedures for the 2004 season. Four cars will be put on the track at the same time giving them 6 laps, the fastest lap for each car will be their "keeper lap". The groups of cars will be picked at random. Speed 51 Ticker (03-25-04) UPDATE: Change is ok as long as it doesnt screw someone, said Bryan Reffner, one of the most vocal drivers during the meeting. If a guy works hard while racing to get to where he deserves and gets it all taken away from him, then that isnt right. Im just looking out for all of us drivers. If you screw up your own, then shame on you. If you get screwed because they way they have the rules, then that isnt right. If you cant win races by having the fast car, then we shouldnt even be out there. Tim Schendel is riding a wave of optimism as he prepares for the Spring Classic on April 2-4 at Rockford Speedway. The Sparta, Wis., driver's hopes are fueled by his early-season success. Although Kingsport [TN] native Bob Harshbarger is planning to run the full American Speed Association [ASA] schedule with his locally-based Appalachian Motorsports race team, this also will be a transitional season for the team. Harshbarger plans to begin phasing his team into the NASCAR Busch Series later this season, with veteran ASA driver Gary St. Amant behind the wheel helping develop the cars. Loch-Lagina Motorsports LLC has been busy over the last 12 weeks. Shortly after setting up a new shop in facilities leased to them by another local sponsor, All-Glass Aquarium, the team began rebuilding the 2003 No. 24 Monte Carlo Chevrolet that Rich raced last summer. They purchased a motor home/40 hauler, a 2004 Lefthander Chassis and a Chevrolet LS-1 High-Performance ASA engine. ASA Racing (03-24-04)
Catchfence.com has been informed that Michael Lewis, Jr, the USAC standout and a NASCAR Busch Series driver for Richard Childress Racing last season will head to the American Speed Association in 2004. Lewis, will join WalTom Racing as a second team entry, while having ASA sensation Robbie Pyle as a teammate. Howie Lettow will serve as crew-chief. We spoke with Dave Stammer, owner of the #45 EDS Motorsports Nascar Touring Midwest Series car this evening. He tells us his new driver for the 2004 season will be Justin Hirt, the young Late Model driver from Tigerton, WI. Justin was down at the shop in Kaukauna this weekend getting fitted for the seat. (Todd) Kluever and two of his crewmembers were involved in a traffic accident south of Atlanta on Sunday morning on their way down to Orlando for a final preseason shakedown before the ASA opener this weekend in Lakeland. FL. Their truck and trailer left the road and went into a ditch and tipped over as it came back onto the interstate. Fortunately, there were no injuries to any of the TK Racing team members, but the same cannot be said for the truck, trailer and equipment. They have there work cut out for them these next few days and they want to thank everyone who has offered help and support. Travis (Dassow) is really excited about starting the race season. Jerry Wood from Wood Brothers has purchased a B program from the Wimmers. It was a lot of money for Jerry to stick out for Travis. The B program will assure Travis of starting every race, which is huge to help us seek sponsors. Carol and I have paid Jerry for the first two races so Travis will have a chance to run for the rookie of the year in ASA. TD Racing (03-20-04)
There were some rule changes made for the ASA Late Model cars that are oulined on the rules page. You are only allowed 1 MSD Ignition box and it must be located on the dash out of the reach of the driver. ASA Racing (03-20-04)

Vintage paved track stock car racing continues to show growth in the Midwest. During the past several racing seasons vintage stock car groups have been formed for competitive events by Mid-American Racing, IMCA Old Timers and SCCA Midwest Council. The cars are either actually former NASCAR, ARCA or USAC stock cars or they are reproductions of those cars. Mid-American and IMCA also permit former short track stock cars from the 1950s and newer. The American Speed Association and the Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams have reached an agreement for the series to begin competing under the ASA banner. The name will change to the ASA/SMART Tour, and has a schedule consisting of 15 races throughout the Carolinas and Virginia. The first race is Saturday, March 27 at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C. The American Speed Association has announced the final date for its 2004 ASA Late Model Series. The event will take place at Calhoun County Speedway in Springport, Mich., on Saturday, August 21. I think its a fine opportunity for the Late Model Series to compete in the shadow of NASCAR and its highest divisions at the nearby Michigan Speedway on the same weekend, said Ron Varney, ASA Late Model Series executive director. One of racing historys most popular and exciting short track weekends is scheduled to make its return to the city of Nashville, when the All-American 400 Weekend is revived November 5-7 at Music City Motorplex. Leading Super Late Model sanctioning bodies CRA/Sunoco Super Series and Southern All-Stars will oversee the officiating and operations of on track activities. Officials from the CRA/Sunoco Super Series, Sunbelt Super Series, Florida Pro Series, Southern All-Stars and USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida have combined to announce the scheduling of an historic racing event at the beautiful central Florida facility. Super Late Model teams and fans will gather at the tentatively titled 2005 SpeedFest, January 26-29. The event will include three nights of racing, with feature events on all three nights. There will be some pretty familiar faces around Cywinski in 2004. The Country Joe Racing #1 team will be back, virtually untouched from its championship run of a year ago. The biggest change that will come for Cywinski and the entire ASA series in 2004 is the addition of several superspeedways to the schedule, including races at the 1.5-mile tracks of Kentucky, Atlanta and Charlotte (Lowe's Motor Speedway). After months of hard work in completely rebuilding both of his race cars, Travis Kittleson made one final tune-up to prepare for the upcoming 2004 ASA season. Auto Meter, a Sycamore, Ill.-based manufacturer of high performance instruments and gauges, will sponsor rookie of the year awards in each of NASCARs regional touring series. The top rookie drivers in each of the two series which comprise the NASCAR Grand National Division (Busch North Series and West Series) will each receive a $3,000 post-season bonus while the award winners in each of the four series in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division (includes Midwest Series, Northwest Series, Southeast Series and Southwest Series) will receive $2,000 apiece as the best first-year driver in their respective series. Sources tell us that Terry Kunes (Madison International Speedway Owner and owner of Terry's Automotive Group) has taken over title sponsorship of the Twin 100's at Grundy County Speedway for the June 19th event and will headline the entire event. The series drivers will travel to four states in 2004, beginning Sunday afternoon, May 16 at the Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna and concluding Saturday night, Sept. 18 at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN. American Speed Association officials have announced the Rookie of the Year program and starting lineup guidelines for the 2004 ASA Late Model Series. The Rookie of the Year will receive a custom leather jacket and ring to the owner and driver. The cash amount for the Rookie of the Year will be announced soon. Schwanke Engines signed a contract with the MARS Series to provide an optional sealed motor. The engine puts out 525 horsepower which matches up with current engines used in the series. It is the same engine approved earlier by the Sunoco Series, based in Indiana. The deal includes Schwanke posting $8,200 in cash and contingency awards for series rookies and product users. The American Speed Association has announced the ASA Late Model Series will hold the second event of its 2004 season on Sunday, May 16 at Baer Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Baer Field Speedway is located in Ft. Wayne, the second largest city in Indiana. The track is a .5-mile oval with seven to 11 degrees of banking in the corners. The historic speedway will celebrate their 40th year of operation in 2004, making it one of the Northeast Indianas oldest professional and continuous sporting venues. ASA Racing (03-05-04)

Several changes to the Yellow Book USA Mid-Am Super Truck schedule has resulted in a final slate for 2004 of 16 events in four Midwestern states. A race originally planned at Hawkeye Downs Saturday, July 31 has been changed to Friday, June 25 to coincide with the Miller 100 for Yellow Book USA MARS late models on the half-mile oval. The American Speed Association has announced that National Tour teams will be competing for more than a $1 million points fund during the 2004 season. This money is above the standard event purse that is posted at each of the ASA National Tour races. Additionally, the points fund will be paid deeper into the field than at any time in the 37- year history of the sanctioning body. In the past, only teams placing in the top 20 at the end of the season would be eligible for the points fund.
