Jay Matthias proved that the race truly isn’t over until it’s over at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. Matthias passed Brian Drexler with two laps to go, to win the Budweiser IMCA Modified Feature. Todd Polster used a lap three pass on James Iverson to take the lead en route to his third feature win of the season in the Dairy Queen Street Stock class. Press Release (07-31-05)
One hundred twenty-nine cars were on hand Saturday night at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI for Charter Communications Night. Although slowed by four cautions, the intense battle for the lead had fans up out of their seats. With cars working well up against the cushion and also down on the bottom, Frank Firari of Lowell, Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam and Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge used all of the track in their heated battle for the top spot. Hometown driver Benji LaCrosse led the early going of the 25 lap IMCA modified feature, was passed twice by Green Bay's Jared Siefert. LaCrosse regained the lead on the final lap when he repassed Siefert to pad his points lead with his fourth feature win of the season. Press Release (07-31-05)
Saturday Night, July 30th, Races will be sponsored by Coldwell Banker/Door County Horizon and Budweiser Flanigan Distributing at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. The first 500 people in the stands will receive Dale Earnhardt Jr. commemorative 16 oz. cans. Press Release (07-28-05)
For the second time this season, the WDLMA will make the trip north to the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway on Wednesday Night August 10th, opening night of the Door County Fair. Budweiser and Forest County Potawatomi will be the headlining sponsors. The IMCA-Style Modifieds and IMCA-Style Stockcars will also be on hand. Press Release (07-27-05)
While the temperatures in the air was a lot cooler than previous weeks, the action on the track was red hot. Fans witnessed the end of a win streak, the return to form of a popular Modified driver, and a familiar story when the night was over. The Johnsonville Brats Dirt Late Models would take the track for the evening’s first feature and it would be Turk Letizia leading the way. A great crowd would take advantage of probably the best weather night of the year at the Powercom Speed Zone. Brandon Czarapata, Terry Van Roy, Adam Pugh and Jon Schultz would cap their nights off with feature wins in their respective divisions. Press Release (07-20-05)
How do you make a big event even more exciting? Simple. Get the community and its businesses involved. That is just what the Antigo Stock Car, Inc (ASCI) folks did in Antigo when looking at the upcoming Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint event on August 6th and what they found was an overwhelming amount of support. A total of forty-six winged Outlaw cars signed in to the pits for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series portion of "The Triple Crown" at the Raceway @ Powercom Park, joining the 40 midgets and 15 mini-sprints. With time-trials scrapped, teams were lined up based on the luck of the draw and passing points awarded through the five heat races. Heat race winners included Darrell Dodd, Mike Kertscher, Matt Folstad, Scotty Neitzel and Joe Roe. Todd Hepfner tied as the top point getter and was awarded the honor of drawing for the A-Main invert. Press Release (07-17-05)
If you stayed away from the Powercom Speed Zone on Tuesday because it looked like we might finally get some rain, you missed a great show. A huge contingent of Budweiser Modifieds were on hand to entertain those who took the chance to come out. Repeat winners would again become a theme to the Victory Lane, but some streaks would be broken as well opening the door for others. Press Release (07-13-05)
Track officials at Luxemburg Speedway are preparing for the fourth annual Luxemburg Legends night presented by WOGB 103.1 FM on Friday night, August 5 at 7 p.m. Former drivers spanning four decades of racing at the third-mile, clay oval will be honored during a trackside ceremony at intermission. Kaukauna veteran Pete Parker survived heavy pressure from Nick Anvelink and Russ Scheffler and ledall 40 laps en route to a $1,500 victory in the Seubert Calf Ranches Battle of the Burg IV at Luxemburg Speedway Sunday night.In IMCA modified action 18-year-old rookie Michael Mullen of Seymour fought off his father, five time track champion Brian Mullen to post his first ever 25 lap IMCA modified feature win. Jeremie Hedrick claimed his first ever Feature Win in Antigo with winning the IMCA Modified Feature. Mike Bostwick broke JP Remington’s streak of Feature Wins in the Trucks. Larry Karcz returned to Victory Lane with a win in the IMCA Stock Cars, and Gary Kasperek grabbed the win in the WISSOTA Street Stocks. A.J. Diemel was Victorious in the WISSOTA Late Models. Fifty-Two outlaw sprinters would test the 1/3 mile oval at the Kenosha County Fairgrounds as the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series returned for the annual "King of Wisconsin" in front of the second largest crowd of the season at the speedway, (the largest being the IRA's "Wayne Daun Memorial" in May). A fast outside groove coupled with the courage to run it proved to be the winning combination for Jay Matthias, as the DePere veteran raced to his first career feature win Friday night at the Luxemburg Speedway in Luxemburg. On a night were down-to-the-wire finishes were the normal order of business, Matthias was joined in victory lane by Rod Snellenberger in the IMCA stock cars, Tom Brumlic in the IMCA Hobby Stocks, and Greg Banker in the Sports 4s. In action at the Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night, Dennis Haldemann of Randolph had a strong run going in the 20-lap Shaver Builders and Home Improvement Modified A-Main as he picked his way up through the traffic from his fourth row starting position. However, Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam was a little stronger and moved up a little quicker from the fifth row as he powered his way into the lead on lap eight. Press Release (07-11-05)
Fillmore's Mike Kertscher executed a flawless three wide pass on lap five and sweated out a late race caution with three laps remaining to win his first 40 lap Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw sprint car feature at Luxemburg Speedway Sunday night. Seymour's Brian Mullen took the lead off of a lap 10 restart and went on to win the $1,000 25 lap modified feature. Press Release (07-5-05)
The 4th of July weekend started out to be a great one for the Feature Winners in Antigo. The WISSOTA Late Model Feature even started with some Fireworks! Terry Anvelink took home top honors in the WISSOTA Late Models, Tom Schaal ended a three year drought with a Feature Win in the IMCA Modifieds. Dan Michonski took home the win in the IMCA Stock Cars, with Lee Christjohn winning the WISSOTA Street Stock Feature, and JP Remington again winning the Truck Feature. Press Release (07-5-05)
It was one of those nights that challenged everyone in the pit area in one way or another. In all, Forty-Four outlaw sprinters showed up for those challenges when the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series made their season debut at the Sheboygan County Fair Park. Press Release (07-5-05)
Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge charged from his fourth row starting position to take over the lead on lap five and never looked back as he drove to victory in the Shaver Builders & Home Improvements Modified A-Main on “Salute to Freedom Night” at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night. Algoma's Dave Bouche inherited the lead on lap 15 after he tangled with leader John Heinz and went on to capture the 30 lap IMCA stock car feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Bouche's victory, his first of the season, was worth $750. A total of 37 IMCA modifieds were on hand, along with 37 IMCA stock cars, 14 IMCA hobby stocks and nine141 hobbies. Press Release (07-5-05)
Asphalt Racing
Norway's Dan Lindsley started up front and held off all competitors to finish in the top spot. Following Lindsley was Jamie Iverson, Scott Stanchina, Gregg Hasse, and John Novara. The winner of the Late Model Dash was Terry Baldry followed by Kris Kelly and Jamie Iverson. Press Release (07-31-05)
Trent Snyder scored the biggest win of his career as he dominated the Midwest Allstar Racing Series (MARS) Super Late Model, Minnesota Governor’s Cup 100 at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre. A record 31 cars were in attendance and Snyder led the 24 car starting field to the green. Press Release (07-31-05)
Dick Trickle's Schedule for July and August (07-31-05)
Mother Nature has done her best to disrupt it, but there will be a Red, White and Blue state champion this year at Wisconsin International Raceway. With the first two legs of the series on June 11 and July 23 rained out, the winner of the 34th annual stock car series will be determined during the extended Blue Race on Saturday night, Aug. 13. The format will consist of three 50-lap features, designated as the “Red,” “White” and “Blue” races. Points will be accumulated through qualifying and the three feature races. The Fox River Racing Club late model feature on Thursday at Wisconsin International Raceway was a story of two yellow flags, which resulted in a close, exciting finish between two of the track’s veteran drivers. The first caution possibly denied John Meidam his first Thursday night feature win of the season. The second, which Meidam caused, helped Appleton’s Jim Duchow hold off Omro’s Terry Baldry for his third win of the season. Full Story in Appleton Post Crescent (07-29-05)

David Prunty scored his third win of the season Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway as he held off Brad Mueller and Lowell Bennett to win the Ritter-Parker Store 75-lap late model feature. “This was a totally different car tonight than I’ve had all year,” Prunty told the crowd from victory lane. “I’ve got to thank the crew who stayed up until three in the morning yesterday to get it to turn so well.” Press Release (07-24-05)
Gene Coleman came back to Norway Speedway holding off Jamie Iverson for the A feature win. Coleman used his front row starting position to jump to the lead. Dick Coleman, Gene's son, challenged his father but was later spun out from contact with Adam Menor. Coleman was able to maintain the top position, ending his evening with the win. Following Coleman was Iverson, Mike Riechenberger, Bruce White and John Novara. Press Release (07-24-05)
The popular Red, White & Blue State Championship Series has always been one of the highlights of the summer at Wisconsin International Raceway. But a better name for the series this year might be the “Wet, White and Blue.” The first race, commonly called The Red Race, was washed out due to heavy rain and threat of tornadoes in the area on June 11, reducing the normally three-race series to two this year. This one was for “Papa Smurf.” After winning his third Fox River Racing Club feature Thursday at Wisconsin International Raceway, Rod Wheeler shook hands with every member of his Donagene pit crew in victory lane. Except one. Lyle Overby, affectionately known as “Papa Smurf,” was killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday in Oconto. Full Story in Appleton Post Crescent (07-23-05)

Round 2 of the Budweiser/ WAPL 105.7 Triple Crown was just wrapped up at Wisconsin International Raceway. In Late Model action it was Jeff Van Oudenhoven taking fast time. On an emotional night for the whole Donagene Motorsports team and driver Rod Wheeler, they came away with the feature win. The team lost long time team member Lyle Overby over the weekend in a motorcycle accident. Rod worked from deep in the field to bring the feature win home in Lyle's memory. Unoffical top 9: 1. Rod Wheeler, 2. Lowell Bennett, 3. Jeff Van Oudenhoven, 4. JJ Smith, 5. Gregg Haese, 6. Mike Gardner, 7. Rod Wheeler, 8. Jamie Iverson, 9. Andy Monday. Jamie Iverson came from the back of the pack to claim the $1000 prize. An early race crash eliminated the cars of Eugene Gregorich, Dick Coleman and Doug Mahlik. On the restart, Ryan Manthei used his front row start to pull away from the field while Iverson was working his way through the pack. A late race caution caused by contact between John Novara and Kris Kelly, caused Bob Menor's evening to be ended. With the caution, the field became bunched up allowing Iverson to run down Manthei for the win. Following Iverson was Mantehi, Scott Degan, Brett Widdis, and Dan Lindsley. Press Release (07-20-05)
Thoughts and prayers go out to Rod Wheeler and the whole Donagene Motorsports team on the lost of long time team member Lyle Dean Overby. Lyle was killed on Saturday in a motorcycle accident, the whole Donagene Motorsports have dedicated the rest of the season in the memory of Lyle. Lowell Bennett chalked up his third feature win of the season after a hard-fought victory over Brad Mueller in the Wisconsin Drywall Distributors 75 Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. Bennett persistently worked the outside groove to grab the top spot from Josh Bauer with five laps to go and then turned back a final four-lap charge from Mueller to take the checkered flag for a two car-length victory. Terry Baldry has excelled at racing at Wisconsin International Raceway for many years and demonstrated that again on Thursday as he won the Fox River Racing Club 30-lap feature over second-place Lowell Bennett. Nathan Haseleu notched the biggest win of his career Wednesday night at the Slinger Super Speedway as he held off a surprisingly stout Matt Kocourek for the victory in the 26th Annual Miller Lite Nationals 250-lap late model feature. “I remember when Matt (Kenseth) won this event a few years back and I went down to the shop and saw that trophy,” an ecstatic Haseleu told the crowd from victory lane. “I said ‘man I’d like to get me one of those’ and tonight I did. The name “Mahlik” should be familiar to fans of Wisconsin International Raceway and Wisconsin Badgers football. WIR fans will remember Doug Mahlik, who won the Fox River Racing Club’s limited late model championship in 2002. Bob Menor won his fourth feature of the season by holding off Jamie Iverson for the win. Following Menor and Iverson was Eugene Gregorich, Ryan Manthei, and Dick Coleman. The Late Model B feature's winner was Dan Lindsley followed by Brian Suhs, John Novara, Paul Radovich, and Kris Oliver. Austin Konetski, of Janesville, led every lap to win the Subway 60 presented by Coca-Cola, late model main event, Sunday night at Slinger (Wis) Super Speedway. The win was his second in three weeks at the high-banked .25-mile oval. Press Release (07-11-05)
If there was ever a special day for Gregg Haese to win a race, this was it. A year ago to the day, Haese’s father, Butch, was the recipient of a kidney transplant from his daughter. “We were all down at Froedtert (hospital) in Milwaukee and my sister donated him a kidney and everything turned out to be on the positive end,” said Haese, 26, of Two Rivers, after climbing down from the door of his Dodge Intrepid in victory lane. Rich Bickle Jr. has just been added to the lineup for the Miller Lite Nationals Tuesday, July 12, 2005. Bickle will join Dick Trickle, Kenny Wallace, Kerry Earnhardt, Todd Kluever, and Ron Hornaday along with defending Nationals Champions Lowell Bennett, David Prunty, Tony Strupp and Conrad Morgan. Kerry Earnhardt will be following his Late Fathers footsteps to Slinger Speedway by competing in the Miller Lite Slinger Nationals race on July 12. The eldest of the Earnhardt children, Kerry is the first Earnhardt to challenge the High Banks of Slinger since his father did in the '80's. Press Release (07-5-05)
The Econo Food's twin 40 lap Late Model event brought a large crowd to the track on July 1st. In the first 40 lap feature the results were; Bob Menor, Eugene Gregorich, Jamie Iverson, Scott Degnan, and Bruce White. In the second 40 lap feature the results were; Iverson, Mike Riechenberger, John Novara, Bruce White, and Dan Lindsley. Overall the results were; Iverson, Riechenberger, Gregorich, White, and Degnan. Proving he still knows how to get it done, 60-year old Al Schill led wire to wire en route to a popular victory in the Keith’s Marina 85-lap late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. “It’s great when everything works so good,” Schill exclaimed after scoring his first victory of the season, his 40th year in competition. “When the track got loose, my car picked up speed and the others fell off,” Schill continued. It’s been quite a week and a half for Grand Chute-based Lamers Motor Racing. Last Tuesday at Wisconsin International Raceway, NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Carl Edwards took fifth in the Factory Motor Parts/ AC-Delco All-Star Challenge driving one of the Denny Lamers-owned Ford Tauruses normally driven by Jim Duchow. Advance tickets for the Tuesday Night Shootout August 2 at Wisconsin International Raceway will be available at the track Thursday and Monday. The tickets, which reflect a $3 discount for adults, will be sold during the Thursday night Fox River Racing Club races. Landon Cassill just turned 16 years old, but he's ready to become the youngest major race winner ever at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna when the American StockCar League 150 is held at Tuesday night, Aug. 2 at 7:15 p.m. The Fairfax, IA racer has been competing in late model cars for two years at his hometown track in Cedar Rapids, IA and has impressed everyone with his smooth driving style. Ryan Mathews, coming off the biggest win of his career several weeks ago, will be competing in two divisions at the Tuesday Night Shootout at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna August 2. The 34th annual Red, White & Blue State Championship for Midwest AllStar Racing Series late models begins Saturday night, July 23 at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. North Carolina NASCAR development driver Stephen Leicht will be competing in the Tuesday Night Shootout at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. with racing at 7:15 p.m. on the WIR half-mile paved oval. Leicht, of Ashville, NC, will compete in the American Stock Car League (ASL) 150.
