Dirt Racing

On a perfect night for racing at the Powercom Speed Zone, the racing action was fast and furious and lightning fast. The track prep crew did a great job providing a track with two grooves equally as fast despite some equipment problems earlier in the day. Scott Mullen, AJ Diemel, Terry Van Roy, Scott Solomon and Jon Schultz would all find the track just perfect in picking up wins in their respective features. Press Release (06-30-05)

The highbanks of the Deer Creek Speedway were a welcome sight to the teams that made the tow to the Spring Valley (MN) facility, along with a packed grandstand and a more than friendly atmosphere.  Expectations were high of the visiting Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series on their inaugural visit and those expectations were soon realized when the existing track record was shattered unofficially in hot laps.  John Sernett would establish the official track record during time trials, turning a lap of 12.592 seconds. Brandon Czarapata of Kaukauna picked up his first win of the season in the 20-lap Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modified A-Main at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night. Press Release (06-27-05)

JP Remington made it four Features in a Row with a win in the Truck Make-Up Feature, and the regular Feature.  Charlie Wild and AJ Diemel both made it two in a row with Feature Wins in the IMCA Modifieds, and WISSOTA Late Models.  Gary Kasperek claimed the top spot in the WISSOTA Street Stocks. Todd Dart of Algoma took the lead on lap four and won his second Budweiser IMCA Modified feature of the season; Dart took home an extra $500.00 from his sponsor Dairy Queen for picking up the win. Press Release (06-27-05)

Superior, for the most part, means a track surface that is super tacky, smooth and fast.  Unfortunately, that was not the case on this night as was painfully obvious by the 4th car in time trials.  Scotty Neitzel would top the list of the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw sprinters in time trials with a 16.574 second lap, at which time the call went out to rework the track surface for the fans. Watertown, S.D.’s Jon Tesch won the 40-lap O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series main event Wednesday night at the Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. Tesch, who started fourth row inside, charged to the front and took the lead on lap 11 and never looked back. Press Release (06-24-05)

The O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series launched their invasion of Wisconsin Tuesday night with a visit to the Langlade County Speedway in Antigo for the first of four straight nights of racing in the Dairy State. Starting third in the Budweiser/Rookie’s Rockin’ Sports Bar No. 7 Skyrocket, O’Reilly USMTS ace Al Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, wasted no time as he snuck into the top spot on the first lap of the 30-lap Holley "A" Main, then paced the 24-car field for rest of the race to score a $2,000 payday in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Badger Summer Classic. Six time series champion Kelly Schryock of Fertile, Iowa took the lead at the drop of the green and survived 10 caution periods to win the 40 lapUSMTS modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Thursday night. Kewaunee's Greg Gretz scored a clean sweep of the stock car division, claiming both the heat and 25 lap feature. Kewaunee's Keith Kickbush led every lap en route to victory in the 15 lap hobby stock feature. Press Release (06-24-05)

T.he fastest machines to ever tour Luxemburg Speedway's third-mile, clay oval will return on Sunday night, July 3.  The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw sprints will compete in a full points show along with a $1,000-to-win feature for the IMCA-style modifieds. Press Release (06-20-05)

Three-time track champion in the IMCA Stockcars, Craig Paque, of Algoma, won his first feature win of the season. Paque’s feature win had six different leaders. Econo Foods was the night’s sponsor with $1.00 hamburgers. Press Release (06-20-05)

Night #2 of the 7th Annual Masters for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series lived up to the billing as it provided enough excitement to last the fans until the series returns in September.  Using a passing points system in lieu of time trials to allow the Late Models to time, the night was filled with anticipation and electricity. Dan Wanta claimed his first ever WISSOTA Street Stock Feature win on Friday. A.J. Diemel grabbed the win of the WISSOTA Late Model Feature with Charlie Wild taking home the win in the IMCA Modifieds.  Larry Karcz returned to Victory Lane in the IMCA Stock Cars and J.P. Beginning with time trial for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series, Wayne Johnson signaled that he was there for business as he established the time to beat with a lap of 11.530 seconds.  Johnson would then go on to win his heat race.  Other heat race winners included Ricky Logan, Jim Melis and Todd Hepfner.  Joe Roe and Jerry Richert Jr both split the twin-Bs. A huge crowd was on hand Saturday night for The Great 98 Night at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI to watch one hundred and thirty-four cars battle it out on the fast 1/3 mile clay oval. Mark Brunner of West Allis grabbed the lead at the start of the 20-lap Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modified A-Main. The first caution of the event came out while the field worked lap two for a spin by Larry Walter Jr. of New Berlin in turn three. On the restart John Stanton of Reeseville made a move on Brunner and took over the top spot. Press Release (06-20-05)

Seymour's Brian Mullen took the lead on a lap eleven restart and won his second straight 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 122 cars signed in, including 40 IMCA modifieds. Press Release (06-20-05)

Fans venturing to the Cedar Lake Speedway on June 17th and 18th will have the opportunity to welcome not one but three new sponsors to the Coleman Racing #4 IRA Outlaw Sprinter of Billy Balog.  "We couldn't be happier about the exposure the team has been getting this year, running full time with the Interstate Racing Association," stated car owner Brian Coleman. In action at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night, row six seemed to be the place to start as both drivers would finish one & two in the 20-lap Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modified A-Main. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge would charge his way through the pack quicker, but it would be Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam who would take the checkered flag first. Press Release (06-15-05)

Heavy rains came in during the fourth late model heat and washed out the balance of the Seubert Calf Ranches Battle of the Burg IV at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 130 cars checked in, including 30 WDLMA late models, 43 IMCA modifieds, 42 IMCA stock cars and 15 IMCA hobby stocks. The event has been rescheduled for Sunday night, July 10. With storm clouds on the horizon the racing action was fast and furious at the Powercom Speed Zone on Tuesday night as the Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends made their second trip to Oshkosh. Two of the main events would be decided by less than one car length, two would exhibit dominating performances and one would end under caution but each one brought their own excitement. Many of the top modified drivers in Wisconsin are preparing to do battle with some of the nation's top fenderless pilots when the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) makes a stop at Luxemburg Speedway Thursday night, June 23. Last season 37 modified drivers entered the inaugural event for the national touring series at the third-mile, clay oval.  Multi-time series champion Kelly Schryock of Fertile, Iowa came away with the victory. If you love dirt track racing or even better, Modifieds on the dirt, you don't want to miss this race!  The USMTS Modifieds will be in Antigo on Tuesday June 21, 2005.  Along with the Modifieds, the IMCA Stock Cars will also be on hand. With nearly 90 sprinters in the pits at the Butler Battlegrounds (42 for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint portion of the program), the decision was made to qualify based on passing points based on the luck of the draw.   That would set the stage for some dramatic races all night long as drivers did everything they could to earn points in an effort to make the show in front of a near capacity grandstand. With the warm weather and sun finally shining, the grandstands in Antigo were standing room only.  Fans got their monies worth with two Late Model Features on Friday night.  Terry Casey won both Features, along with his heat to make it a clean sweep.  Brad Rohloff was the winner of the IMCA Modified Feature, with Bruce Belland taking home the IMCA Stock Car Feature.  Lee Christjohn made it two in a row with a Street Stock Feature, and JP Remington beat out the rest of the Trucks to take home the Feature win. Heavy rains that drenched the Raceway at Powercom Park Saturday afternoon caused the cancellation of the racing program. Racing will resume next Saturday with the Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modifieds, Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals, Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks, Wally's Auto Dirt Devils and the Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series. The Michigan weekend for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series started out in Hartford where 35 sprinters converged for the "Battle of Lake Michigan".  In all, six states were represented with enough action to make a war weary veteran cringe.  Joe Roe bested the field in time trials by turning a lap of 16.534 seconds. One hundred fourty one racers were on hand to do battle on the ultra smooth racing surface of the Luxemburg Speedway. Early this season the track was rather rough after putting down fresh clay in the spring.  The track was smooth and fast from the inside groove to the outside line for Victory Sign night at the races.  Brian Mullen, Ben Kroll, Tony Schlei, Aaron Thornton, and Greg Banker picked up the feature wins. The Raceway at Powercom Park played host to a special Twi-Light show on Memorial Day, Monday May 30 that featured the Shaver Builders and Home Improvement Modifieds, the Johnsonville Sausage W.D.L.M.A. Late Models and the Mini-Sprints. Press Release (6-3-05)

It was a night of drastically different features, the first two have to rank as two of the best ever at the Speed Zone and the other two were never really in doubt when the eventual winners took the lead. Asphalt Racing

Austin Konetski charged to his second career late model feature victory Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway, taking the checkered flag first in the Ewald Automotive/RI Corporation 70-lap late model feature. Press Release (06-27-05)

Jamie Iverson picked up his first Pepsi Late Model win of the season. Iverson came from the rear of the 16 car feature and worked his way around the car of Fred Gignac. Following a restart, the car of defending track champion, Kris Kelly, was hit leaving him spun out and ending his evening. Iverson held of a hard charge by Eugene Gregorich for the win. Following Iverson was Greorich, Mike Riechenberger, Fred Gignac and Pete Polini. Press Release (06-27-05)

Nascar Busch and Nextel Cup driver David Stremme regrets that he cannot the Miller Lite Nationals Tuesday July 12th because of a scheduling conflict. Press Release (06-27-05)

We added 50 pictures from Tuesday's Factory Auto Parts Allstar Challenge race at Wisconsin International Raceway to our photo gallery. We tested out our new camera and were very pleased with how the pictures turned out. We will have a chance to take picture from the infield in a couple weeks. (06-24-05)

As many races as defending Fox River Racing Club late model champion Terry Baldry has won at Wisconsin International Raceway, one wouldn’t think he’d be wondering when the first win would come this season. It finally did on Thursday as Baldry came from the middle of the pack during the 30-lap feature race to catch Jeff Van Oudenhoven, pick up the win and pull within eight points of late model division points leader Rod Wheeler. As cars received the green flag to start the Fox River Racing Club’s limited late model feature race, a crash sent the cars of Tom Spierowski and Ron Lehmann into the outside wall. That crash at Wisconsin International Raceway on Thursday made Jerry Van Handel’s car difficult to drive. It was hit from behind and spun around. Full Story Appleton Post Cresecent (06-24-05)

The Factory Motor Parts/ ACDelco Allstar Challenge race at Wisconsin International Raceway brought in 64 Late Models. Terry Baldry set fast time on a hot slippery track. First last chance race was won by Ryan Mathews followed by Anrdrew Morrisey, Greg Haese. Second last chance race was won by Tim Schendel followed by Adam Royle after the 2nd and 3rd place cars were disqualified. Third last chance race was won by Mike Gardner followed by Kelly Bires, Pete Vandermolen and John Meidam. Jeff Van Oudenhoven won the feature over Rod Wheler, Nate Hasseleu, Jim Duchow, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Terry Baldry, Mark Schroeder and Steve Carlson. John Meidam took the win the the B main feature. Matt Kenseth had rocker arm problems during the first practice and was able to get the motor back together in time for qualifying. Randy Lajoie broke a camshaft in Dean Lapointes back up car and ended up driving Dean Lapointes primary car. Pictures to come tomorrow (06-21-05)

Madison E News (06-20-05)

The Late Model feature began with a crash between Dan Lindsley and Kevin Beyer. Lindsley ended off on the roof in the tire berrier and Beyer was launched over the tires onto the horse track. Both racer's nights were done after the crash. Once the clean up on the track ended, the race started over from scratch. Fred Gignac and John Novara battled for the lead, each taking their turns in the top spot. Press Release (06-20-05)

Sources tell us Tom Gee Jr's car is all back together and ready for the race tomorrow night. After being involved in a hard crash Thursday Night the team head home and started stripping the car down. The car was stripped and on it's way to Lefthander in Illinois by 4am Friday morning. The rear clip needed to be replaced and the rest of the car needed to be put on the jig and straightened. After many hours of hard work the car is ready to hit the track once again. (06-20-05)

John Mueller turned back a late race challenge by defending track champion Brad Mueller and raced to the win in the More Than Millwork 75-lap late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. Press Release (06-20-05)

Andrew Morrissey capped off a successful weekend of racing by driving to victory in the Johnson Sausage Shoppe 75-lap late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. Morrissey, who had also claimed a feature win over the weekend at another area track, led most of the event and crossed the finish line about eight car lengths ahead of defending track champion Brad Mueller. Josh Sand and Jason Novak shared the spotlight with 40 lap feature wins Saturday night to highlight action at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. Sand in the Super Stocks and Novak in the Mini-Stocks both carded their first feature wins of the season. Joining them in victory lane on the night were Kraig Koehler in the Hobby Stocks, Hank Horn Jr in the Sport 4s and Jason Yaeger in the visiting Sport Truck class. Press Release (06-15-05)

Tom Gee and Andy Monday seem to be growing up in parallel racing universes. After starting out in the Wisconsin sport truck class, both drivers moved up to limited late models, then late models. In each case, Monday made the jump a year before Gee. Yet their progress, and achievements, have been remarkably similar. Almost uncanny. Full Story at Appleton Post Crescent (06-11-05)

Tim Rothe has come oh-so-close to winning a Red, White and Blue State Championship at Wisconsin International Raceway in Buchanan. For the past two years, the 38-year-old Appleton driver, who races a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo owned by Appleton’s Jim Kemkes, has finished third in the three-race series, which began in 1972. Every year, there seems to be one driver who dominates the Wisconsin sport truck class at Wisconsin International Raceway. Some of the names from the past include former champions such as Mike Schneider, Andy Geiger, Hank Calmes and Robyn Wussow. Full Story at Appleton Post Crescent (6-11-05)

The Red Race for this evening has been CANCELLED due to wet grounds and heavy rain that will be here this afternoon. The races have been called off as of 8:15am to save travelers time and gas. (06-11-05)

On Ross Maxwell's racing minute today he mentioned at that Randy Lajoie will indeed be racing in the Factory Motor Parts/ ACdelco Allstar Challenge race on Tuesday June 21st. Ross mentioned that the car Randy will be racing still has sponsorship space available, we have not been able to find out whose car he will drive yet. Qualifying was ran and the heat races were getting underway at Wisconsin International Raceway this evening when heavy rains moved in. The first batch of showers went around the track, but the second line of rain was to strong. Once the rains came it was here to stay and the races were cancelled. The events of tonights races will be moved to next week where extended features will take place. (06-9-05)

Dick Trickle will not be appearing this week at Norway Speedway as was previously advertised. A scheduling conflict prevented his appearance for this program. (06-8-05)

David Prunty charged into the lead early on and checked out on the field to drive to his second feature win of the season in the Enders Construction/Design to Construct 75 Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. Prunty, who took command of the race on lap three and then held off a late challenge by Lowell Bennett, credited his crew and his car’s set-up for the win. Press Release (06-6-05)

The Auto Value/ Bumper to Bumper Challenge Round 1 Pepsi Late Model Feature was captured by Wausakee's Bob Menor. After the restart, Menor lead the race to the finish, winning the Round 1 feature followed by Kris Kelly, Ryan Manthei, Mike Riechenberger and Bruce White. The Pepsi Late Model B feature winners were Brian Suhs followed by Rob Manninen, Allen Yelle, Ken Bower, and Paul Radovich. The winner of the Pepsi Late Model dash was Eugene Gregorich followed by Scott Stanchina, Kris Kelly, Jamie Iverson, and Mike Riechenberger. The Late Model fast qualifier was Jamie Iverson with a time of 14.442. Press Release (06-6-05)

Light sprinkles turned to a steady rain during practice, forcing I-94 Raceway officials to postpone the scheduled MARS double header featuring the MARS Super Late Models and the MARS Super Trucks. A makeup date will be announced at a later date. Press Release (06-4-05)

We have not received any results from the races at Norway Speedway yet, but we are told Jamie Iverson was involved in a accident that heavily damaged his race car. (06-3-05) UPDATE: We are told that Jamie walked to the trailer and was checked out by paramedics. Jamie is very sore, bruised cheast, etc. We are told that car is not as bad as it looked. (06-4-05)

We understand EDS Motorsports owner Dave Stammer has a Late Model car that will be making some appearances this season. The car will carry the #29 and will be raced at the Kenseth special at WIR and maybe more races as the season goes on. Word is a young driver will be behind the wheel whom we can announce at this time. (05-26-05) UPDATE: Matt Derricks will pilot the car in the June 21st Allstar Challenge at Wisconsin International Raceway. If all goes well the team plans to possibly run the White and Blue race later in the year. (06-3-05)

With picture perfect weather the Fox River Racing Club kicked off the second week of Thursday Night Thunder. In Late Models it was Mark Schroeder taking fast time besting 27 cars. Rod Wheeler was your fast dash winner while Brent Strelka and Tom Gee Jr. took the heat wins. Feature: 1. Jim Duchow, 2. Andy Monday, 3. Gregg Haese, 4. Mike Gardner, 5. Rod Wheeler, 6. Terry Baldry. In Limited Late Models it was Tom Spierowski taking fast time with a lap of 20.464. Kyle Bauknecht took the fast dash win while Brandon Conrad and Andy Kluck took the heat wins. Feature: 1. Tom Spierowski, 2. Pat Braun, 3. Gary Natrop, 4. Jim Ebben, 5. Andy Kluck. In Sport Trucks it was Pete Narnoth taking fast time with a lap of 16.495. Three-time ASA National Tour champion Kevin Cywinski of Lakeville, MN will make his debut in the new American StockCar League (ASL) Sunday night, July 3 at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN.   Racing will begin at 6 p.m. highlighted by a 150-lap ASL feature and 50-lap Mid-Am Super Truck feature. Hal Collins of Fort Worth, TX has announced that he will be competing in the remaining American StockCar League race events for the 2005 season, including the next race Sunday night, July 3 at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN at 6 p.m. Press Release (06-30-05)

Trevor Stewart was winning feature races on dirt tracks in Minnesota and the Dakotas three years ago. After he won 50 WISSOTA Modified events, he decided to switch to paved track racing. Press Release (06-27-05)

Joey Miller, who finished first and second in twin 50-lap ACDelco Super Series/MARS late model feature races Saturday night at the Elko Speedway, failed to pass post-race technical inspection and has been disqualified. All other finishers will be moved up in the running order. Miller's car was found to have illegal rear suspension components. Press Release (06-27-05)

Joey Miller, ARCA rookie point leader, and Donny Reuvers, one of the hottest Elko Weekly NASCAR drivers, split wins in the ACDelco / MARS twin 50-lap feature races Saturday night at the Elko Speedway in front of the largest Saturday night crowd ever at the 3/8-mile paved oval. Jeff Van Oudenhoven of Kimberly, WI has moved ahead of Steve Carlson of West Salem, WI in the Midwest AllStar Late Model points going into the next series race Saturday night, June 25 at the Elko Speedway. Press Release (06-24-05)

A longtime race observer a few years ago saw Mark Storlie race in the Thunder Stock Division at Elko Speedway and had some prophetic words.  "This Storlie guy is the real deal," said the race track official. Storlie landed a ride in the Mid-Am Super Truck Series early this Spring and much to the surprise of everyone the rookie is leading the point standings after two races. Press Release (06-24-05)

The American StockCar League (ASL) has announced a tire change beginning at the next event Sunday, July 3 at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN. The current radial tire is being replaced by a Hoosier bias ply tire (3035 left and 4045 right) that is approximately half the cost of the current tire. Press Release (06-20-05)

Former NASCAR driver Dick Trickle and three-time ASA National Champion Kevin Cywinski will join the field for the opening race of the ACDelco/MARS Super Summer Series for late model stock cars at Elko Speedway Saturday night, June 25. The price of Goodyear radial tires used on American StockCar League (ASL) race cars has been reduced beginning with the next event Saturday night, June 18 at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI. Goodyear officials at Competition Tire have reduced the price of the radial tires from $220 each to $185 each begining with Saturday's 150-lap race on the MIS half-mile paved oval. John Vassh of Racine drove his 1971 Dodge Charger to victory in the Stock Car Classics race Saturday night at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Dan Chesmore of Janesville, a three-time late model champion at the Jefferson Speedway will be racing in the Mid-Am Super Truck Triple Crown at Madison International Speedway beginning Saturday night, June 18. The B & B Race Engines Late Model Shootout has been added to the Tuesday night, Aug. 2 racing program on the D-shaped half-mile paved oval at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. The race will be 44 laps and the winner will receive a trophy honoring the late Wally Jors.   Jors ran the number 44 at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna when the Fox River Racing Club first began running weekly Thursday night events. The opening race of the Red, White & Blue State Championship Series for MARS Late Models, Mid-American Stock Cars and FRRC Limited Late Models has been rained out Saturday. The next race of the Red, White & Blue series will now be Saturday night, July 23 with racing at 7 p.m. Heavy rain Friday night and Saturday morning with predictions for much more rain during the day and evening Saturday resulted in officials making an early decision. Jonathan Eilen of Hampton, MN is among the advance entries for the Midwest AllStar Racing Series (MARS) late model 100 Saturday night at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN.
