Dirt Racing

The threat of rain gave way to clear sunny skies, even after a nearby track cancelled it's own events due to "weather."  The crowd gathered at the Echo Valley Speedway in the small Iowa town of West Union to welcome back the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series for their only visit of the season.  The weather also couldn't keep the 34 teams that had been waiting to get to the Iowa speedplant away either. In the Budweiser IMCA Modified action, Benji Lacrosse made a successful return trip to Thunderhill.  B.J. Soquet won his first career Wulf Brother’s IMCA Stockcar feature.  Tony Schlei made it two feature wins on the season with his Mays Sport Center IMCA Hobbystock main event.  Von Eytcheson won his third straight Dairy Queen Street Stock feature.  Chad Williams has made it two for three in Door County Motorsports 4 cylinder racing this year with his feature win. In action on WXRO/WBEV Radio Race Night at the Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night, Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam raced to the win in the 20-lap Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modifieds A-Main. The win makes Schraufnagel two for two for the season as he took the season point opener win the previous Saturday. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge grabbed the lead at the start of the event. The make-up Feature for the Late Models will be held Friday night June 3rd. The Double Payout Divisions were the WISSOTA Late Models, and the ASCI Trucks.  Both Troy Springborn and Mike Bostwick brought home a nice paycheck.  B.J. Giese took home top honors in the IMCA Stock Car Feature, Lee Christjohn was the top dog in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, and Tom Haferkorn won the IMCA Modified Feature. Press Release (05-30-05)

Luxemburg Speedway officials are preparing for the return of the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association (WDLMA) for the fourth annual 40 lap "Battle of the 'Burg" on Friday, June 10 sponsored by Seubert Calf Ranches of Dorchester, WI. Press Release (05-25-05)

On Friday night, May 20, 2005, the WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Street Stocks and Trucks Features were canceled due to the track conditions.  President Marc Johnson contacted WISSOTA about running the Features at a later time, and was granted permission to due so.  On Friday May 27, 2005 the Late Models will run their make-up Feature. On June 3rd the Street Stocks will have their make-up Feature, and on June 17th the Trucks will run their make-up Feature. Press Release (O5-25-05)

Current Luxemburg Speedway Point Standings as of May 20th (05-22-05)

It was the regular weekly divisions season opener at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night and one hundred and thirty eight cars jammed the pit area ready for action. ay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam jumped into the lead from the pole position and led the rest of the way in capturing the Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modified 20-lap A-Main. Scott Williams battled the rough track conditions to win the opening night IMCA Modified Feature Event.  Kevin Lamberries scored the Feature Win in the IMCA Stock Cars, and also cashed in on the double payout!  The rest of the Feature Events were then cancelled due to the extremely rough track conditions.  Track Officials felt that the track was too unsafe to do any further racing. Fans who vetured out toe the Wilmot Speedway on Saturday night, expecting to see a great show with the Bumper to Buper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series were not dissapointed.  With 50 teams signed into the pit area for the Wayne Daun Memorial, it was no holds barred and the action started off right with tie trials. Mother nature provided plenty of moisture for the racing surface this week in Luxemburg.  One hundred eight cars showed up to do battle on the third mile clay oval.  The track proved to have lots of bite in it but was once again somewhat rough.  Benji LaCrosse picked up the IMCA modified win.  He was joined in victory lane by Shawn Kilgore, Dave DeGrave, Tim Jorgenson, and Amanda Johnson. The Grand Nationals would begin the night's feature action with Troy Weich and Terry Van Roy leading them to the green flag. It would Van Roy taking the early advantage and began to pull away from the pack. Tim Doehling, looking for his second straight features win, would lock up in an early battle with Weich and Larry Richards, as they would go three wide for second. Press Release (05-20-05)

On a night when it seemingly rained over most of the country, the only thing that fans and teams had to deal with at the Knoxville Raceway were winds.  It was also enough to also draw two World of Outlaws team from a rained out race in Ohio as well.  In all fifty-eight 410 sprinters would participate in the event. Due to the weather and track conditions, Antigo Stock Car Officials pulled the plug on the season opener set for Friday May, 13th. The season opener is now set for Friday May 20, 2005. Press Release (05-13-05)

The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association Outlaw Sprint Series is please to announce that several of their scheduled events this season will be broadcasted live, via the internet.  This will allow fans that would not otherwise be able to attend to at least tune in and hear what is going on at the track.  The move is part of an ongoing effort to help make the series even more "Fan-Friendly". On a great night for racing, 122 cars packed the pits at the Powercom Speed Zone in Oshkosh on Tuesday night. The WDLMA Late Models would highlight the evening's show and would not disappoint with a last lap pass for the feature win. The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series prepares for its' annual May journey to the famed Knoxville Raceway, this Saturday night May 14th. IRA was first invited to compete at Knoxville in 1999, and has shared the spotlight on Knoxville's Maytag Night with the highly competitive 410 & 360 sprint divisions which compete at Knoxville weekly. A brief rain shower didn’t dampen the racing action at the Shawano Speedway, as more than 100 cars were in the pits for the second straight week. Nick Anvelink won the WISSOTA Late Model feature, while Wade Schutt won the IMCA Modified feature. The IMCA Stock Car feature went to Rod Snellenberger, with Jeff Curtian once again winning the Limited Late Model feature. Press Release (05-9-05)

Excitement is at an all-time high at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI as the weekly divisions season opener is set for Saturday May 14. Racing is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. On the program for the season opening event will be the Shaver Builders and Home Improvement Modifieds, the Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks, the Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Dirt Racing Series, the Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals and the Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils. The racing was fast again on Butch’s Auto and Mbroidery by Mary night. Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill had a good crowd in attendance for the $5.00 grandstand admittance. Sean Jerovetz won the IMCA Modified feature. Shawn Kilgore picked up his first feature win of the season in the IMCA Stockcar class. Tony Schlei won a thriller in the IMCA Hobbystock class. Von Eytcheson used a front row starting spot to capture the Street Stock class. Chad Williams won the first 4 cylinder main event of the year. Press Release (05-9-05)

Forest County Potawatomi has been named the season sponsor at the Langlade County Speedway for the 2005 season.   The sponsorship money goes towards track and facility upgrades.  Some of the money is also put in the point fund that is given away to the drivers at the annual awards banquet.  The money is also used for the weekly payouts. A new weekly record high car count of one hundred fourty six racers were on hand to thrill the Luxemburg Speedway crowd on friday night.  Five divisions were on hand to tour the fast but rough third mile clay oval.  Nick Anvelink, Charlie Kroll, Ed Anschutz Jr., Von Eytcheson, and Greg Banker brought home the feature trophies. Forest County Potawatomi  Thunderhill Speedway is getting revved up for week 2.  This Saturday night’s sponsors will be Butch’s Auto and Mbroidery by Mary.  Fans will be able to enjoy fast racing action on the 1/3 mile clay oval for ONLY $5.00. Racing will start at 6 p.m. Press Release (05-6-05)

N.E.W. Dirt met for the last time prior to the scheduled start of the 2005 race season. The main topic of discussion was the progress of the track. The board was able to field numerous questions and let everyone know where things are at with the reconfiguration. Spread the word that start time will be 5 pm for the first two weeks and a decision will be made regarding the remainder of the season after that. Press Release (05-3-05)

A fantastic throng of fans greeted the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series for their Wisconsin opener at the Dodge County Fairgrounds and the cool temperatures soon gave way to some very hot action that never seemed to stop.  In the end, it was Union Grove's Scott Young that landed himself in victory lane, scoring a win for long time friends, Rick, Al and Adam Schmidt.  "We really needed this!" stated an exuberant Young in victory lane.  "It's been a long slump but now it's finally over." Antigo Stock Car, Inc. is happy to announce the opening date of the Langlade County Speedway is set for May 13, 2005.  According to track officials the track has been coming along nicely. It was recently grated and packed, with the inside corners still a little wet.  The club purchased a newer water tank, and the guardrail is getting some much-needed attention, as is the track maintenance equipment. For the 13th year in a row WDOR was the sponsor for the season opener.  Even though the wind was cold Saturday night; the racing on the tracks fast surface was hot.  Over 90 cars took to the track on opening night. In IMCA Modified action, Jared Siefert led all 20 laps taking home the victory.  In IMCA Stockcar action “Mad” Matt Junio won the feature event in impressive fashion with a 1/2 straightaway win. Asphalt Racing

Sources tell us Gene Coleman will be making a return to Norway Speedway for select races this summer. (05-31-05)

Kyle Bauknecht ran the NBC26 limited latemodel at Marshfield Saturday night in the midstate limited latemodel series. He qualified 2nd and after working his way up from the back of the field, he finished 3rd in the feature right behind Neil Knoblock and Justin Woller. (05-31-05)

Last Thursday Jack Pankratz had the motor in his limited late model blow up, after further investigation it appears worse than first thought. The head broke off the exhaust valve which went through the piston and the block. Jack would like to thank his sponsors and crew and will be back soon. (05-30-05)

Dennis Prunty, of Lomira, won the E.H. Wolf & Sons late model 80, Sunday night at Slinger Super Speedway.  The win was Prunty’s first of the 2005 season.  Defending track champion, Gary Lamonte, of West Allis, won the Midwest Sportsman feature while Jason Feyereisen, of Random Lake, was the winner of the Midwest Modified headliner. Monday Motorsports weekly newsletter (05-30-05)

Norway Speedway had 20 Late Models take to the track tonight with Eugene Gregorich taking fast time with a lap of 14.610. Doug Kamin won the dash while Kevin Beyer and Fred Gignac took the heat wins. Kris Kelly took the feature win over Bruce White, Mike Reichenberger, Bob Iverson and Bob Menor. Bob Iverson had a great evening while filling in for his son Jamie who was attending his daughters graduation. Bob qualfied 7th fastest and was leading when he spun out after a restart with 13 laps left. He was able to march his way back through the field to finish 4th. Even a 45-minute rain delay couldn’t spoil Jerry Van Handel’s mood Thursday night. After a brief but steady shower halted the action at Wisconsin International Raceway, Van Handel hopped back in his No. 3 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and cruised to a victory in the Fox River Racing Club’s limited late models division. Rarely do parents buy their son a new car and encourage him to drive 110 mph in heavy traffic. But that’s exactly what Gene and Dona Wheeler did, and they couldn’t be happier with the results. Hortonville’s Rod Wheeler, driving a car owned by his parents, passed Appleton’s J.J. Smith with six laps left to win the Fox River Racing Club’s season-opening late model feature race Thursday night at Wisconsin International Raceway. Appleton Post Crescent (05-27-05)

Hats off to everyone involved with Wisconsin International Raceway and the Fox River Racing Club! The new lighting system is awesome and it appears everyone was excited to see the lights come on. The new layout in the pit area makes watching the races awesome. You can seem pretty much the whole track all the way around now. Get some warmer sunny weather and things will only get better! Thursday Night Thunder went off without any thunder, but experienced some rain. In Late Model action it was Jamie Iverson taking fast time. John Meidam won the fast dash while the heat winners were Tom Hockers and Mark Schroeder. The feature was won by Rod Wheeler after taking the lead from JJ Smith. In Limited Lates it was Tom Spierowski taking fast time after backing it in the wall during practice. AJ Miller took the dash win while Andy Kluck and Terry Miller collected a heat wins. Jerry Van Handel took the feature win in the Limited Late Model feature. Sorry for the lack of complete results, but we ended up missing most of the races. (05-26-05)

The 2005 Season opener was greeted with a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Street Stocks were first out to qualify as Ron Jenshak qualified the fastest. Jamie Iverson would show the fans that he has not missed a beat over the winter as he set quick time for the Late Models. MIS E News Update (05-23-05)

Rookie Nick Schumacher out-dueled cagey veteran Dave Feiler to nail down his first ever late model feature victory in the 65-lap Bob Fish Pontiac/Buick/GMC Alan Kulwicki Memorial Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. Press Release (05-23-05)

Donny Reuvers experience as a former track champion, coupled with a great starting spot helped him to turn in a dominant run in the 50 lap ASA Minnesota Challenge Series opener at Raceway Park in Shakopee. Reuvers got things rolling in a hurry as he led the 18 car field to the green. Press Release (05-23-05)

Sources tell us the #8 Limited Late Model which is owned by the owner of Lakepark Pub was out at Wisconsin International Raceway practicing last night with George Schwalbach behind the wheel. We had been told there could be someone else behind the wheel as the season progessed, apparently their could have been a change made already. (05-17-05) CORRECTION: Sources tell us they talked to George Schwalbach the other day and he stated he was out practicing his super stock that night. George did not practice or pilot the #8 Limited Late Model as we previously posted. (05-23-05)

It’s been almost a year since Nate Thiesse has run a race, but that didn’t show as he put together an incredible run as he won the ASA Super Late Model Feature at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre. Outside Polesitter Tim Olson took the lead on the opening lap. A pair of early race cautions slowed the action as Olson continued to show the way. Press Release (05-22-05)

Weekly Late Model drivers in the state of Minnesota have an opportunity to compete for the newly-developed ASA Minnesota Challenge Series championship, a co-operative effort between three racetracks in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." Officials from ASA Member Track I-94 Raceway (located in Sauk Centre), Elko Speedway (Elko), and Raceway Park (Shakopee) developed a common rules package for the class to allow teams to easily travel back and forth between the facilities; this became the basis for the ASA Minnesota Challenge Series. MIS E News Update (05-20-05)

Due to the rainy and cool weather that has arrived today and appears to be sticking around for the whole day, the races for the Fox River Racing Club have been CANCELLED. (05-19-05)

All were in the top 10 in points last year, except for Bennett, who made only a handful of the 15 weeks. But the former two-time FRRC champion from Neenah said he is coming back this year and will make most of the shows with the backing of a new major sponsor, Community First Credit Union. He would be a contender for the FRRC title this year, except he will probably have to miss a couple of Thursday nights due to commitments with the limited NASCAR Busch schedule he runs. Officials from the Minnesota Late Model Challenge Series have selected Friday August 26th as the make-up date for the event that was rained out on Saturday May 14th at the Elko (MN) Speedway. Rain put a damper on the evening just as the first few of the 32 cars in attendance attempted their qualifying runs, forcing the postponement. Press Release (05-18-05)

John Meidam never wants to go through a week like he did last week. No one should have to. It was bad enough that the Appleton driver finished last out of 23 drivers in Sunday’s Budweiser/WAPL Spring Classic 100 at Wisconsin International Raceway. But that was nothing compared to the personal tragedy he and his family had to endure in the days leading up to the race. Appleton Post Crescent (05-16-05)

Four years ago, Nathan Haseleu was on the brink of breaking into big-time racing. As a driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series, he competed in half of the 24 races in 2001 and won almost $142,000. But he never got that one big break that a driver in that situation needs to advance to the next level, the breaks other Wisconsinites like Nextel Cup drivers Matt Kenseth, Scott Wimmer and Travis Kvapil got. Monday Motorsports WIR Spring Opener race report (05-16-05)

Lowell Bennett dominated the N/Connect Al Schill Jr. Memorial 60-lap late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway, leading start to finish to chalk up his second victory of the season. “This new car and the crew we put together is an awesome combination,” stated the veteran driver from Neenah from victory lane. “This is going to be a fun season.” Press Release (05-15-05)

Sunday night May 22nd Long-time track sponsor Bob Fish Pontiac, Buick, GMC in West Bend presents the annual Alan Kulwicki Memorial event at Slinger Super Speedway featuring a visit by the Midwest Sportsman Championship Series. A 65-lap Late Model feature will highlight the night and competition will continue in the following Slinger Super Speedway divisions, Modified, Thunderstocks, Slinger Bees, Figure 8’s, and the Spectator Eliminators. Terry Baldry has won Fox River Racing Club late model stock car championships driving for himself, Mike and Patti Butz and Mark Patton. This year, he wants to add Matt Maynard’s name to that list. For FRRC Thursday night competition at WIR, Baldry replaces Rod Wheeler behind the wheel of Maynard’s Chevrolet No. 96 Monte Carlo, although it wasn’t because Maynard was unhappy with Wheeler’s performance. On the contrary, Wheeler won four Thursday night features, as many as Baldry did. But Maynard wanted just one driver this year, and what better driver to have than one with more than twice as many track championships as anyone else. Appleton Post Crescent (05-15-05)

Wisconsin International Raceway held their Spring Opener this afternoon. Mark Schroeder bested 58 Late Models to take top qualifying honors. Last chance race winners were Rod Wheeler and Rick Corso. Steve Carlson started on the pole and lead to the 50 lap mark when there was a competition caution for 10 minutes. When the race resumed Carlson still held the point until Nathan Haseleu took over the lead. Nathan held on and took the feature win. Top 5: 1. Nathan Haseleu, 2. Jeff Van Oudenhoven, 3. Jeremy Lepak, 4. Steve Carlson, 5. Andy Monday. (05-15-05)

Due to the combination of wet grounds and persistent rains that are predicted over the next twenty-four hours, the races for May 13 at Madison International Speedway have been postponed. Press Release (05-12-05)

Sad News....Connor James Meidam, infant son of John and Jody Meidam, was born into eternal life on May 9, 2005, due to complications. Obituary (05-12-05)

Last night there were alot of cars out practicing at WIR. In Late Models there was #00 Jeff Kendall, #7 Kevin Baldry, #21 Tim Schendel, #52 Brent Strelka, #55 Rich Loch and #71 Mark Eswein. In Limited Late Models there was #5 Ron Lehman, #7 Terry Miller and #75 Gary Bock. Jessie Gracyalny was out in the #49 Super stock and there was a whole mess of Wisconsin Sport Trucks. (05-11-05)

Sources tell us that the familar #49 Super Stock maybe have a team car for th 2005 season. The team car would be run every other week, no clear word on who will drive weekly. Mark Ritger who has raced figure 8 at Slinger for years will switch to Super Stocks weekly at Wisconsin International Raceway for the 2005 season. (05-11-05)

Last season we had heard Brandon Selle may run weekly at WIR for the 2005 season. In talking with Brandon's owner as they pulled in the gate, he stated they are going to run all over this season. They may run some of the Thursday nights to start out of the season and see how things go. (05-11-05)

Joe Natoli, Executive Director of Variety – The Children’s Charity of Wisconsin and Jim Lagina , co-owner of Loch-Lagina Motorsports announce a partnership that will enhance visibility and awareness of Variety. Dennis Prunty announces his "Traveling" schedule today. He will travel to WIR May 19th for their season opener, followed up by the Red race of the Red White and Blue Series June 11th. June 21st is a 10,000 dollar to win race at WIR promoted by RK Promotions, featuring Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and DDP driver Dennis Prunty. June 28th is the date. Dennis returns to WIR July 21st for a weekly FRRC show, 2 days later its the white race of the RWB Series. Moving into August, DDP competes the 11th at a weekly show and the 13th for the RWB finale. MIS E-News Weekly Update - Friday Night Review (05-10-05)

Jim Ebben tells us he most likely will be running his Lefthander LLM #36 every week at WIR with support from Lamers Motor Racing, The Plaster Masters of Jim Boegh Plastering, and The Stripe Guy. He will run a couple special events and maybe put his dad or brother in the car for some races. (05-10-05)

After staging an energized battle with his brother, David Prunty drove to victory in the Culver’s of Jackson 60-lap late model feature Sunday afternoon at the Slinger Super Speedway. Press Release (05-9-05)

The Monday Motorsports team headed out to WIR today for the tracks official practice and technical inspection day. Several cars were on hand from various divisions for this event. The 10th Frame Chevrolet Monte Carlo made about 40 laps today, fine tuning the setup for next week's Wisconsin Challenge Series Spring Classic 100 at WIR. Press Release (05-9-05)

Under threatening skies, Blake Bjorklund was the threat to the field as he won the 40 lap season opening ASA Super Late Model Feature at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre. JR Studniski led the charge into the first turn, but by lap two, Rob Dubnecay in his all new ride took over the top spot. Press Release (05-9-05)

We were at WIR today for the practice session, we were able to take some pictures and will eventually post them. The next race event that we will be at will be the Thursday Night Opener at WIR. (05-7-05)

Former NASCAR Busch Series driver and Cambridge native Jason Schuler said he plans on running a semi-regular schedule at MIS in the super late model and ASA late model divisions. Wisconsin State Journal (05-7-05)

So much of being at the racetrack will be the same for Brian Hoppe this season, and at the same time, so much has changed for the Madison native. No longer is he a NASCAR Midwest Series regular, and for the first time in more than a decade of successful racing he isn't a regular anywhere. Now a Midwest sales rep for Essex Parts Services, a North Carolina-based company that supplies parts and equipment for race teams, Hoppe works with many of the drivers and teams he competed against. We have not been able to confirm this with Fox River Racing Club or WIR officials, but we are told that the Wisconsin Sport Trucks will park on the drag strip for the 2005 season. (05-5-05) CONFIRMED: We are going to try a new pit parking configuration in the inside pits this season to allow the fans a more unobstructed view of turns 3 and 4. With the number of late model and limited late model teams expected to start the season, space is a scarce resource. We have asked the Wisconsin Sport Truck division members to park on the dragstrip and enter the track through the turn 4 wall like the other 3 divisions that park out there. If we find there is enough room as the season goes on, we will bring them back inside. We appreciate their understanding as we strive to produce a better fan experience. (05-6-05)

The races at Madison International Speedway have been cancelled for today due to cold weather and snow. Dave Gruenberg who has worked for the track for years and also owns a company that sells racing tires was involved in an accident yesterday during practice at Madison. Dave had mounted a Goodyear tire and was airing it up when either the tire or rim blew up. Apparently Dave had extensive damage to his arm and hand and was in surgery all night. Ground is expected to be broken later in May for a new 7/8 - mile paved oval near Newton, IA, according to attorney Denny Chalupa, a spokesman for the group of investors behind the $70 million project. Race events are projected to begin in July of 2006 with several organizations already in contact with the group. It will be a 7/8-mile similar to Richmond International Raceway. Steve Schultz of New Market, MN won the Mid-American/GhostRiders 50 Saturday night at the Elko Speedway. Second place finisher Paul Neisius was disqualified in a post-race inspection, moving up all the other finishers one spot. Bill Prietzel of Franklin, WI, a two-time series champion, officially finished second followed by Jonathan Eilen of Hampton, MN, Lyle Nowak of Wausau, WI, and Kevin Lutz of Lakeville, MN.
