Dirt Racing
This Saturday Night June 2nd, Econo Foods will be bringing the racing action to the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. Hamburgers will only be $1.50. The IMCA Modifieds will be getting introduced to the crowd. All seven classes will be running. Racing gets underway at 6 p.m. Press Release (05-29-07)
Mother Nature, for the second week in a row, takes the checkered flag and causes Plymouth Dirt Track Racing to cancel it's weekly racing program. The family friendly atmosphere, and the exciting racing action resume again next Saturday Night June 2nd. Press Release (05-26-07)
Frog Station's Dan Ratajczak fought off Jared Siefert of Green Bay in the closing laps to win his first 25 lap IMCA modified feature of the season at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 133 cars attended the races, including 32 IMCA modifieds, 38 stock cars, 16 northern sportmods, 22 hobby stocks and 25 sport fours. Press Release (05-26-07)
The three southern-most DTRA sanctioned tracks in the area have worked out a partnership to allow their feature winners free access into their facilities throughout the summer on a week by week basis. Fox Ridge Promoter Chris Stepan explained “let’s say Driver A wins the Midwest Modified feature at Fox Ridge Speedway on Friday night, June 1st, if he then chooses to race at Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday, June 2nd, he would be admitted free to the pit area. Plans have been finalized for Luxemburg Speedway's second annual Badger State Showdown, presented by CZ's Bushville Lanes on June 7 and 8. IMCA modifieds will compete for a $1,000 prize on June 7, and the June 8 winner will bag $2,000. On June 8, stock cars and northern sportmods will compete for $1,300 and $700 top prizes, respectively, while the hobby stock top prize will be $550. Green Bay Press Gazette (05-25-07)
Fire at Charter Raceway Park: I just ust came from the track and unfortunately there is nothing left of the concession, office, VIP room building up on the hill. A fire earlier today took the entire building. There are a lot of rumors as to what happened, but we will wait for more official information. Our Track photographer was there a took some pictures. I expect to get them later tonight. Donny Goeden put a brilliant drive enroute to capturing the annual Wayne Daun Memorial for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints at Wilmot Speedway. The win was popular as Goeden car owner Bob Walldan lives in the Wilmot area and is celebrating his 50th year in motorsports, the Maxim no. 11 is painted special to recognize and honor Walldan's anniversary. Plymouth Dirt Track racing did not get a night of racing in this past Saturday after a couple of bands of showers came through and made the track the consistancy of soup, and very unsafe for racing. Press Release (05-20-07)
Although the weather tried to dampen the spirits, ideal track conditions led to three, four and even five wide racing on Coca-Cola Night at the Races at Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge became the third different winner in three events as he drove to the win in the 20-lap Johnsonville Brats Modifieds A-Main. Press Release (05-20-07)
Algoma's Todd "Felix" Dart passed Jeremy Jacobs for the lead on lap 12 and cruised to victory in the caution free 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 125 cars attended the races, including 33 IMCA modifieds, 35 stock cars, 17 northern sportmods, 19 hobby stocks and 29 sport fours. Press Release (05-19-07)
This Saturday Night May 19th, Baylake Bank will bring the racing action to the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. The IMCA Modified, Stockcars, Hobbies, Sportmods, Street Stocks, Bombers and 4 Cylinders will all be in action. Because of a low turnout of cars, the winged supermodifieds from Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car special at Luxemburg Speedway on May 25 has been canceled. A full program of IMCA modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks and sport fours will be run beginning at 7 p.m. Green Bay Press Gazette (05-18-07)
Former Shawano sportsman driver Dan Hardtke, 40, died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. Hardtke and his wife, Sue, operate Racing Graphic Design in Green Bay. The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints make their first of four visits to the Wilmot Speedway this coming Saturday night, May 19th. Wilmot has been a long time playground for IRA since its' inception back in 1960. Defending IRA Champion Travis Whitney is currently tied for the IRA points lead with veteran IRA campaigner Steve Meyer leading into the Wilmot event. Press Release (05-14-07)
For the first time in three full seasons, Plymouth Dirt Track got its second full night of racing in on the scheduled date this past Saturday. In A-main action for the Late Models, Rick Scheffler (Waukesha) kept his car at the point and won the twenty-five lap feature. Press Release (05-13-07)
"Felix" Todd Dart came out victorious in his race long duel with Billy Lemieux in the IMCA Modified feature race at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. Matt Junio picked up his first win of the season in the IMCA Stockcar feature race. Press Release (05-13-07)
The excitement was high as the World of Outlaw Late Models traveled to Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night and teamed up with the Johnsonville Brats Modifieds in a program that gave the fans everything that they had expected and more. Illinois driver Dennis Erb Jr. drove away with the WOO A-Main win while Mike Sandholm of Oconomowoc recorded the A-Main win in the modifieds. Press Release (05-13-07)

Three Drivers including Dan Rataczjak, Troy Muench, and Aaron Thornton all recorded clean sweeps at "The Hill" Saturday night. Keith Kickbusch won his first feature of the season in the IMCA Hobbystocks. Press Release (05-6-07)
Sprints were the third division in the rotation, and competed in four heats, two B-mains, and one A-main feature. Danny Schlafer (Sussex) picked up the first heat win over Lance Fassbender (Burnett), and Brian Kristan beat Tony Wondra (Campbellsport) in the second heat. Ben Schmidt (Plymouth), a rookie in the Sprint division but not a rookie to racing, picked up his first win in a Sprint by winning the first of two B-main features over Michael Emme, and J.B. Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, WI opened the 2007 Racing Season with over 100 cars on hand for Charter ½ Price Night/Meeker Construction Night at the Races. After taking a three-year absence to race late models, two-time track champion Tim Lemirande of Verona returned to the Johnsonville Brats Modified Division in style as he captured the 20-lap A-Main event on Saturday night. The excitement level couldn’t be any higher at Charter Raceway Park. The schedule for the season offers a variety of racing from the regular race divisions to the outside organizations coming in to put on shows, including the World of Outlaw Late Models and the World of Outlaw Sprints. With the track championships in all five regular divisions coming down to the final A-Mains of the season in 2006, the competition is expected to be even stronger this season. Press Release (05-6-07)
For all the years of racing he has under his belt, Tom Naeyaert admits he'll feel like a rookie tonight. That's because the Shawano dirt late-model ace will set sail on his maiden voyage in a Fastrak late model during the first of a handful of special events at Luxemburg Speedway this season. Fox River Racing Club season gets underway this evening after being rained out last week. This evening is Consolidated Construction Night/Scout Night. This will also mark the first night of the 141/WIR Grandrud Super Stock Series. (05-31-07)
Emily Sue Steck is making history at the Fairgrounds Speedway in her rookie season in the Kwik Trip Late Model Division. Track officials said that when Steck earned the fast qualifying time last week, she became the first woman to do so in the 21-year history of the Late Model Division. LaCrosse Tribune (05-29-07)

Sunday Night June 3rd Pepsi Americas presents the Pepsi Challenge Series Round One at Slinger Speedway. A 75 lap Late Model Feature will headline the racing events. Defending Slinger Speedway late model track champion David Prunty captured his second feature win of the season Sunday night, scoring a convincing win in the E.H. Wolf & Sons 80. Prunty crossed the strip ahead of Brad Mueller and John Mueller. Press Release (05-28-07)

It has been 10 years since Pagel was fatally injured in a one-car crash after making his qualifying run during the Fox River Racing Club's opening program on May 1, 1997. I'll never forget it. At the time, I was interviewing 1996 Wisconsin sport truck champion Andy Geiger for a story. When we heard the crash, we both looked up. I saw Pagel's red and white, No. 6 Budweiser Chevrolet Monte Carlo facing backward against the wall in Turn 1. Nothing unusual about that, I thought. You can see that almost every week at the track. Racing has recognized an assembly issue found in some M-6007-D347SR sealed crate engines. A number of these engines were assembled with improper cam bearings. This results in valve-train instability above 5800rpm and can result in accelerated wear as well as engine failure if not serviced immediately. Speed 51 (05-24-07)

Tim Rothe, Kyle Calmes, Mike Gardner, Cal Harrell, among others were testing their late model rides last night at Wisconsin International Raceway. Cal Harrell is running a "development ride" to test the crate motor in the late model division. While practicing last night we are told Cal had motor problems in which the motor blew. Apparently the motor blew up pretty bad. (05-23-07)

This year, they built a new car for Van Oudenhoven. Korth will be the crew chief and Nechodom, who works at RanderCar in Appleton, is the set-up specialist. The car has a 2007 Ford Fusion body with a B&B Racing engine. Van Oudenhoven will go back to using his old No. 45, rather than the No. 8 that Butz uses. Of course, none of it could be possible without the financial backing of David Hoppa, owner of Precision Handling and Trucking, and a myriad of sponsors, chief among them Time Warner Cable, who are footing most of the bills. DeForest's Andrew Morrissey held off Ken Reiser and Jeff Kendall for his third DRP Feature win of 2007, while Tomah's Thayran Rezin and La Crosse's Terry Lafleur each won their second DRP Feature of the season. Beau Sanden, the 2005 Limited Late Model Champ at the Dells won the division's second Feature of 2007. WIR Practice Tidbits: Brett Piontek will race WIR weekly and select ASA Midwest Tour races. Tom Spierowski's #1 has been sold Jesse Oudenhoven, who drove 4 Cylinders last season. Tom Spierowski could be in a Late Model this season if everything plans out. Jerry Van Handel will race weekly at WIR in his #3 LLM. Maxwell Schultz will run a Late Model weekly at WIR and a Mid American car at 141 weekly. Jeff Tisler who usually races at 141 Speedway will compaign a LLM at WIR on a weekly basis. Kyle Calmes championship LLM has been sold to Barnaby Tomazeric from Shiocton who will run weekly, this is the first form of racing for him. Neil Sannes is making the move from 4 cylinders to Super Stocks. Tom Gee Jr. made contact with the outside wall resulting in the team making the trip to Lefthander for a new front stub. There was a couple commercials being filmed, one involved Travis Stebane, Gregg Haese and Cory Kemkes, this commerical will air on area tv stations. Then there was a commerical being filmed for the Red, White and Blue Series which will be shown on local tv, espn, and FX during the Nascar races. (05-12-07)
Kudos to the Thrive to Drive Motorsports team for taking time to show their #9 Late Model at Arby's in Green Bay today. Y100 radio station was on hand telling people to come on out and see the #9 that will be racing weekly at Wisconsin International Raceway. This is what we need from more teams! We have been getting alot of emails asking what Terry Baldry is up to for 2007. We have checked with a few people and no one seems to know what the plan is. Hard to imagine he won't be racing in 2007, although have heard he might run just a few races. (05-7-07) PART TIME: Terry Baldry of Omro confirmed this week he will run a limited schedule for car owners Gerald and Cheryl Schneider this year. "We don't have a schedule planned out, but I can tell you we won't be running every Thursday," said Baldry, who has won a record 11 Fox River Racing Club late model titles. "We'll see how things go. The Dells Raceway Park has made an addition to this Saturday's (May 12th) schedule, adding their Pure Stock division to the Wisconsin Challenge Series (WCS) show. ASA limited late models, late models and bandits will comprise the weekly racing program at the track, while Kunes decided to drop the sportsman division. MIS will offer hobby stock and added bandeleros and legends with the quarter-mile program this season and Kunes is considering bringing back super late model competition to MIS' half-mile track in 2008. Because his former promoter left to operate his own race series, Madison International Speedway track owner Terry Kunes will have an expanded role this season. With weather conditions, better suited for a fall high school football game than racing, four Dells Raceway Park divisions took to the track on a cold, cloudy and very windy first Saturday of May. Three of the night's Feature winners, Jason Weinkauf (SLM), Mark Hohl (SS), and Terry Lafleur (Bandits), made return trips to Victory Lane. Becky Grabarski won the Pure Stock Feature by leading her brother, Ron Grabarski, to the checkers to collect her first-ever Feature win. Press Release (05-6-07)

After pulling the engines of the top three finishers in Saturday's event at Iowa Speedway and sending them out for a detailed technical inspection, ASA Late Model Series officials have released their findings and official results for the race. Winner Jacob Goede and runner-up Travis Dassow checked out okay and kept their finishing positions after the tear-downs, but third place finisher Andy Hanson was disqualified. 23rd-place finisher Chris Seavey was also disqualified. Bill Davis Racing announced today they will continue their driver development program with rookie driver Ryan Mathews. Mathews will be behind the wheel of the #36 Toyota Tundra starting this weekend at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. Mathews most recently competed in the ARCA Re/Max Series. Jayski (05-23-07)
Two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday from Palmdale, California, will be taking on the region’s hottest stars in short track racing in ASA Midwest Tour competition in several events during the 2007 season. Hornaday is scheduled to race in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment events at LaCrosse Speedway (WI) July 3, I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre (MN) July 7, Madison International Speedway (WI) July 20, and Wisconsin International Raceway August 7. Brad Mueller, one of the ASA Midwest Tours “Touring Stars” took advantage of Jefferson Speedway’s open practice night on Thursday. Mueller quickly learned he didn’t like the place after backing his potent ride into the turn one wall. “We knocked the rear clip off the car and smashed the fuel cell,” said Mueller. The “Big One” happened Saturday night, and as you might expect, it affected the events final outcome. But the “Big One” didn’t happen near the end of a Cup restrictor plate race, instead it happened at the drop of the green flag of the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Late Model Tour race at Jefferson (Wis) Speedway.Nathan Haseleu was the winner of the Lancaster Toyota 100 at the quarter-mile bull ring. The Norway Speedway and the ASA Midwest Tour have agreed to partake in what could be one of the biggest racing events in our speedway's history. As the Midwest's best short track teams, drivers and crews will be competing in the 100 lap event. Norway Speedway (05-9-07) MORE: ASA Midwest Series vice president Steve Einhaus, along with members of the Dickinson County (Mich.) Racing Association have finalized a deal to bring the touring series to Norway on June 22. "We want to make this the biggest event in Upper Michigan," said Bob Menor of Wausaukee, a super late model driver and a DCRA board member. "It's got all the right ingredients, that's for sure." (Rich) Bickle, who spends the majority of his free time restoring collector cars and hot rods dating back as early as the 1930’s in his race shop located in Edgerton, WI noted his interest in a hand full of Midwest Tour events. “I truly believe that this series has every piece of the puzzle that it needs to be the number one choice for the traveling racer. I am working on a brand new car for 2008 but outside of Jefferson I am pretty excited to get back to Grundy County Speedway, Madison, and WIR in August. ASA Midwest Tour (05-9-07)
Dan Fredrickson from Lakeville, Minnesota was the fastest qualifier out of the 51 cars that tried to make the first race in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment Elko 125 and now he’s trying his hand in the ARCA RE/MAX Challenge Series. Dan will pilot the #32 Country Joe Racing Dodge at Indiana’s Winchester Speedway in the Winchester 200 Sunday. Joey Miller is racing in the Hooters Pro Cup this week so his ride was available. Jonathan Eilen’s win in the inaugural event Elko 125 for the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment netted him $3,593 in purse money, Touring Stars rookie bonuses and contingency awards. Fifty-one of the Nation’s top Super Late Model racers brought their best equipment to try to make it into one of the twenty-eight starting spots in what became a historical event.
