Dirt Racing
Veteran enduro racer Todd Welsing sped away to the win Saturday afternoon in the first ever 200 lap Tisler Salvage Compact Car Enduro at the Luxemburg Speedway in Luxemburg. elsing topped an interesting field of competitors, including many racers from the area enduro circuits as well as a collection of Luxemburg's Friday night regulars. Mark Mincheski, a former Street Stocker at Luxemburg, looked to be the man to beat early. He took command on the 50th lap, pulling away to what appeared to be a comfortable lead. Welsing was locked in a battle for second with Pat Wassenberg and two familiar faces to the Luxemburg racing scene - IMCA Modified National champion Jared Siefert and former track modified champ Eddie Muenster. Beginning tonight, Langlade County Speedway in Antigo will host the Indian Summer Classic. Seven divisions of stock cars will compete tonight and Saturday, including WISSOTA late models, IMCA stock cars, modifieds and northern sportmods. Tonight's racing begins at 7 while Saturday's race action is slated to get under way at 4:30 p.m. Sunday will be the rain date. Green Bay Press Gazette (10-5-07)
Five first-time kings and a first-ever queen join a pair of three-time titlists in IMCA’s 2007 national championship class. Jared Siefert of Green Bay, Wis., topped the Modified standings. The winner of a dozen features during the season, Siefert earned his first SuperFlow North Central Region crown and was also the only Modified driver to win titles at three local tracks this season, at car-rich Shawano Speedway, Seymour Speedway and Luxemburg Speedway. Asphalt Racing
Mike Reichenberger was recently crowned the 2007 Late Model Championship at Norway Speedway. Mike would like to say thank you to all his Sponsors and friends. The Fox River Racing Club held their monthly meeting last night. Voting was taken for both president and secretary for the 2008 and 2009 season. Results from president ballots: Chris Shields 38 and Gerald Schnieder 61. Gerald Schnieder is the new president and Clint Smith is the secretary a role that he has held for the last two seasons. Slinger Speedway held a meeting recently on the running of 2 barrell carburetors in the Late Model division, but have ruled not to run them. There will be an opening to run a 2 barrel carburetors in the rules at a weight break. Todd and Eddie Show (10-22-07)
Sawyer Effertz who raced go karts and Bandolero's for many years made the move to 4 cylinders last season. Sawyers raced in the 4 cylinder division weekly at WIR and on the dirt in Oshkosh. For the 2008 season the team will be moving up to the Super Stock division. (10-15-07)
The USAC National Midget Series is scheduled to race May 17 at Slinger Speedway, marking the first time in nearly two decades that the track brought in an outside sanctioning body. I'm looking for different things to bring exposure to the track and the racing there," promoter Wayne Erickson said Thursday. Trickle, who will likely have to undergo hip replacement surgery in the near future, said he would like to be back, too. “I have no idea what management wants to do. If they want me back, I’d like to be back,” said Trickle, who finished 18th in the event. “If I can do it (race) on a bad hip, I can certainly do it on a good one.” La Crosse Tribune (10-6-07)
Steve Carlson was pretty sure that he was in good shape. After all, he had been tracking the standings for the past several weeks. (Chris) Wimmer, meanwhile, has continued to try and survive in the competitive world of auto racing. He's helped give mistreated dogs new leases on life. Now Wimmer is searching for a race team that he can call home. While he has continued to try to meet owners in an effort to make it onto a team, Wimmer has come back to Wisconsin to race. Touring Racing
With chilly weather more fitting for a fall special, James Swan capped off his 2007 Mid-American Stock Car Series championship season in style Saturday afternoon by winning the inaugural "Fight For the Cure" Fall 40 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. Swan took the lead half way through the ten lap non-points event, passing an ailing machine piloted by Kenny Smart. Racing Wisconsin (10-30-07)
American Speed Association President, Dennis Huth, recently stated that the ASA Midwest Tour had one of the strongest starts, that he has seen, for a new racing series. “I have been involved in a lot of start up series, I have seen a lot of start up series over the course of the years,” Huth stated. “How do you describe something taking off like the ASA Midwest Tour and making a name it has for itself in such a short period of time? I would call it incredible.” In 11 starts, a total of 165 drivers earned points this season. 117 of those drivers did make a start in at least one feature event (71%). Press Release (10-30-07)
Ryan Mathews will pilot the Bobby Hamilton Racing #4 Dodge at Atlanta while regular driver Bliss competes in the NASCAR Busch Series race in Memphis. After a three race hiatus Ryan Mathews is stepping back into a NASCAR Craftsman Series Truck at this weekend's upcoming race in Atlanta. Mathews stepped out of the #22 Bill Davis Racing Toyota Tundra after the race in New Hampshire to help the team prepare for Jacques Villeneuve's NASCAR debut. "We are still talking with several teams and exploring all the options," said Connection Motorsports Group President John Madrigal. " We are patiently waiting for the dust to settle from all of the transactions taking place and hope to have Ryan in something full time for next year. Jayski (10-26-07)

Citing a need to return Super Late Models back to their grassroots marketing foundation, the new American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour plans to bring a “circus” when they hit the towns in 2008. The ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour has energetic plans on a 15-race schedule next year, with intentions to televise nine of those races on a cable channel which reaches most of the country. Holzhausen, fresh off his win in the “Dick Trickle 99” last evening, continued to be hottest driver at the 38th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend as he was the fast qualifier for the Oktoberfest 100 at La Crosse (WI) Fairgrounds Speedway. Dick Trickle didn’t win the race that carries his namesake, but he was sure happy about the person who did. Let’s just say Dick Trickle and Steve Holzhausen have a few things in common. Winning. Having fun. Quick-wit. The winner of each segment of the Dick Trickle 99 received one point, second place got two points, third place was worth three points, etc. When it was all said and done, the official score was this: Holzhausen, by virtue of his second, fifth and second-place segment finishes, had nine points. Chris Wimmer knows frustration. Chris Wimmer knows what it is like to be so close to your dream, yet have it just beyond of your fingertips. Wimmer started his racing career in the ASA National Tour where he returns this weekend at the 38th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wisconsin. Wimmer will once again take the reins of the Wimmer Racing No. 52 Chevrolet, driving in the Dick Trickle 99 and the ASA Midwest Tour Late Model event. ASA Midwest Tour (10-5-07)
Manitowoc's Kevin Damrow placed sixth in the Mid-American series event at Rockford (Ill.) Speedway last weekend. Reedsville's Maxwell Schultz placed 20th. The event was won by Kenny Joosten of Wonder Lake, Ill. The series also will crown a champion this weekend at its final event at La Crosse. Green Bay Press Gazette (10-5-07)
Ross Kenseth realizes that once he’s on the race track, he’s the farthest thing from “just another driver.” “I definitely wanted to do this. Nobody forced me to do it,” Ross said. “It’s so much fun, you don’t want to stop. After my first couple of races, it was so much fun I wanted to continue to race as much as I could.” What happens with Ross’ career will be closely monitored by Matt, who lives in North Carolina with his wife, Katie, and by Lisa and her husband, Don Bandaly. And, it’s a good bet racing fans will follow the young Kenseth, too, just like they did when Matt tore up the Wisconsin tracks. La Crosse Tribune (10-5-07)
Longtime motorsports executive Dennis Huth, through his company Racing Speed Associates, has reached an agreement to fully acquire all rights to the American Speed Association, it was announced today. Huth, the president of Racing Speed Associates, brokered the deal to purchase the 39-year old sanctioning body from Stephen M. Dale. Our immediate plans include the continued expansion of the ASA Member Track and the ASA Regional Racing programs, as well as evaluate the potential resurrection of the ASA National Tour,” Huth said.
