Sturgeon Bay, WI; Heavy rain on Friday has forced the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway to cancel the race program for this evening. Heavy rains Thursday night and into Friday morning forced track officials with Luxemburg Speedway to cancel the races scheduled for tonight. Seymour Speedway 2008 Schedule (04-21-08)
Former track champion Benji LaCrosse of Luxemburg passed Dave Zeitler of Luxemburg with ten laps to go to win the 25 lap IMCA modified feature on opening night at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. LaCrosse also won his heat, sweeping the division for the evening. A total of 123 cars checked in to battle on opening night, including 35 IMCA modifieds, 31 stock cars, 24 northern sportmods, 17 hobby stocks and 16 sport fours. With just one lap in the books Todd Dart spun, collecting defending track champion Jared Siefert in the process. Both drivers were done for the night. Press Release (04-19-08)

JA charity car show featuring stock cars and street rods will take place near Apple Valley Lanes in Sturgeon Bay from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Trophies will be awarded in eight divisions, including modified, stock car, sportmod, hobby stock, street stock, sport four, motorcycle and an open class. The event will be held rain or shine. Jerry Muenster is spending his retirement in the fast lane. The Green Bay driver will be 67 years old next month. For decades, he's owned and operated Jerry Muenster's Shell on Green Bay's west side. Although he's a year into his retirement, Muenster shows no signs of slowing down. Muenster will start his season racing on Friday nights at Luxemburg Speedway and Saturdays at Shawano Speedway. Former IMCA hobby stock champion Eddie Anschutz of Algoma will take the year off from racing. Anschutz will handle the announcing duties at Thunder Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay on Saturdays and will help announce on Fridays at Luxemburg Speedway. Joe Verdegan Column (04-11-08)
Steady rains all afternoon have forced Luxemburg Speedway track officials to cancel the planned practice session at the third-mile, clay oval for Friday, April 11. "The grounds are just too wet for us to anything with the track right now," said track manager Rick Goral. "We don't want to jeopardize ruining the track for our opening nights races." Things could not have gone any better for Jared Siefert in 2007. In addition to winning the Luxemburg Speedway IMCA modified track title, the second-generation Green Bay driver secured titles at dirt ovals in Shawano and Seymour. On a bigger scale, Siefert also nailed down the state, regional and national crowns. Siefert is poised to defend his Luxemburg track title when the season kicks off Friday night April 18. Like many, he's already gotten a head start on things. Wheeling his new GRT chassis, Siefert was leading in Beatrice, Nebraska in March when the gears broke. Press Release (04-9-08)
The long winter has forced Hodkiewicz (Shawano Speedway's race director.) to push back the planned season opener of Saturday. April 12. "Our grader operator tried to get on the track, and he basically said there's no way we'd be able to open on the 12th," Hodkiewicz said. "We'll try again for the 19th." Joe Verdegan Column (04-4-08)
For the first time in more than six years, Shawano Speedway will host a high-paying winged outlaw sprint car/late model doubleheader. The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints and the Rumble Dirt Series for WISSOTA late models will highlight a doubleheader Friday and Saturday, May 16-17. A complete sprint car show and late model heats will be held Friday night, while a full late model show, along with the weekly program for IMCA modifieds and stock cars, will be held Saturday night. De Pere's Tim Jorgenson and Greenleaf's Jamie Colwell can expect to have their collective hands full when they defend their respective Luxemburg Speedway track championships when the 2008 season at the third-mile, clay oval kicks off Friday night, April 18. In just two short years, Jorgenson can lay claim to a pair of track championships at Luxemburg. Although word has it Gregorich has his car for sale and has no immediate plans to compete full time this year, a field of nearly 30 sportmods are expected to battle weekly. The field is led by 2007 IMCA Supernationals winner Tracy Wassenberg of Shawano. Other top contenders expected include Oconto Falls drivers Adam White and Eric Arneson, Luxemburg's Jeff Dubois and Dennis Meisler, along with Green Bay's Aaron Holiday, and Mishicot's Mark Christensen. Asphalt Racing
Oktoberfest Race Weekend officials are pleased to announce that the "Dick Trickle 99" will return to this year's four day race weekend on Friday, Oktober 3, 2008. Along with the main event, a new semi-feature event has also been added called, "The Stubby." "The Stubby" will be a 49 ½ lap event, half the distance of the "Dick Trickle 99" to the next fastest qualified cars not advancing to feature event. Twelve cars will be inverted and officials will set the size of the field. This race will be run immediately after the second segment of the "Dick Trickle 99". Press Release (04-29-08)
Ryan Carlson and his crew had a busy week. After being involved in a hard wreck last week, he came back tonight to capture the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model win at Rockford Speedway. Chris Gantz, Ricky Nielsen, Tim Melvin, and John Zellinga also took home feature wins. Press Release (04-26-08)
This weekends activities at Slinger Speedway have been canceled. The heavy rain has created a severe weeping situation that will make practice very difficult today at best and the weather for Sunday is not favorable enough to dry the grounds. The annual practice day will be Saturday May 3rd from Noon to 4:00 pm and the Emily’s Wine and Dine race will be as scheduled Sunday afternoon May 4th with pit gates opening at 8:00 am, practice at 11:00 am, and racing at 2:00 pm. The 61st season of weekly racing is underway at Rockford Speedway. The action continues this Saturday night with NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action. Joining the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, NASCAR All-American Sportsman, Budweiser American Short Trackers, and Coca-Cola RoadRunners will be the FIRA/Rascal Outlaw Challenge and the Popeye's Mini-Grand Prix. It's going to be another big year at Madison International Speedway. The sounds of exciting stock car racing will soon fill the air around MIS as the countdown to the green flag is less than two weeks away. "We think this is the most exciting schedule we've ever had at MIS," said General Manager Dave Grueneberg when recently asked about the upcoming season. The green flag will fly for the first time in 2008 with the season opener on Sunday, May 4th featuring the ASA Midwest Tour and Big Eight Series. This doubleheader will give fans the opportunity to see the top super late model and limited late model drivers from throughout the Midwest coming to MIS. Press Release (04-21-08)

Johnny Sauter announced he will compete at the Miller Lite Nationals at Slinger Super Speedway. He will also drive a Richie Wauter's Craftsman Truck at the Milewaukee Mile. Johnny also mentioned he hopes to return to Wisconsin this summer and compete at Wisocnsin International Raceway, Dells Raceway Park and Madison International Raceway. He also mentioned the possibility of racing the ASA Midwest Tour race at Madison on May 4th. LTN Radio Network (04-20-08)
A top notch field of cars and warm early spring weather greeted the fans at Rockford Speedway Saturday night as the 61st season of weekly racing commenced on the famed quarter-mile oval. After Allman gained the lead, BJ Sparkman emerged to try his hand at the top spot. BJ would eventually move around Allman on lap 13 and skate away for the victory. Tim Melvin made a late race charge through the field to take second ahead of Allman who took third. Jeff Turnure would get fourth and Larry Dickinson rounded out the top five. The 61st Season for Slinger Speedway will kick off Sunday afternoon April 27th with the Miller Lite Spring Opener 120. Late Models will headline the event joined by Limited Late Models, Midwest Sportsman, Suburban Harley Davidson Midwest Modified, Thunderstock, Slinger Bee’s and Figure 8’s. Qualifying will start at 12:15 and racing at 2:00 pm. The 120-lap race will run in two 60-lap segments. At the halfway point all cars will pit for adjustments and will return to the track for the second segment lined up just how they finished lap 60. All seven Slinger Speedway racing divisions will compete in the opening day event. Press Release (04-17-08)

Last year, it came down to the final lap, but it will continue into 2008 as "The People's Champion" Jerry Gille will be looking for seven-time defending track champion, Ricky Bilderback, and will attempt to remove him from his throne. Update From Chase N Monday Motorsports: The body mounting process has been completed and the vinyl graphics from Signs Now are dressing up the car nicely. We are still awaiting our engine from B&B Racing Engines which should arrive by this weekend. We are going to be running a Ford A.C.E. Beway race products will again have a parts truck in the pits this year (2008) on Thursday nights. He will be selling TORCO race fuel. If FRRC drivers and teams want to continue to have a parts truck in the pits in the future, please plan on buying the occasional parts and gas from him. DASH for GAS is back in 2008--If you win the LM or LLM feature, have a Beeway sticker on your car and buy a minimum of 5 gallons of fuel from Beeway THAT NIGHT, you will take home a contingency award of 5 gallons of fuel for the following week. Sources tell us Terry Baldry will reunite with Mike Butz Racing driving the #8 car. The team plans to run Thursday Nights at Wisconsin International Raceway and the Red, White & Blue Series. Kris Kelly tells us he will be back behind the wheel of the #1 M&M Motorsports Limited Late Model full time at Wisconsin International Raceway. The team also plans to run a few Big 8 Series races and a couple area specials. The #1 car will carry sponsorship from Pit Row Racing Apparrel, Keweenaw Pub & Pasta, Shear Magic Salon & Tanning, Auto Clinic of Neenah, and Winners Circle Chassis. (04-2-08)
Mark Schroeder tells us his team will compete weekly at Wisconsin International Raceway along with all special events at WIR. The team hopes to make some trips to Norway Speedway and Slinger Super Speedway. The car will be the 2007 Lefthander that was raced at WIR in 2007 powered by a B&B Chevrolet ACE Motor. The team is honored to carry the Miller Lite colors through General Beer Northeast for 2008. Northern Electric will also be on board as a major sponsor for the full season. The team welcomes aboard Sideline Sports Bar and Floors By Design as new sponsors for the 2008 season. (04-1-08)
Touring Racing
Several ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment teams took advantage of an open practice this past Saturday at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI. This was the only opportunity for the teams to test given the seven day no test rule, the rule that is enforced at the track hosting the upcoming ASAMT event. Defending Madison winner, Brandon Hill was on hand and was excited to be back, “I couldn’t wait to get back here, I wish we came more often,” Hill stated. “It’s always been a good place for me. I have only ran here two or three times and some pretty good runs, and last year, obviously, we ran real well. We need a good run." Press Release (04-29-08)
NASCAR Sprint Cup Aaron’s 499 winner, Kyle Busch, will be racing at Madison International Speedway next Sunday in the ECHO Chainsaw 100. This will be the second event of the 2008 season for the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment. Busch, who has to be one of the hottest drivers in all of racing, will be competing the night before in Richmond, VA and will travel to Madison to compete in the 100-lap event that he finished sixth in last year that was won by Brandon Hill. The Lane Automotive ASAMT Rookie of the Year presented by Red Line Synthetic Oil and Hyperco is off and running after the Kwik Trip 125 event at Elko Speedway. Six drivers have taken the green flag towards a Rookie of the Year title with a potential $10,000 in awards to be handed out at the end of the season. The first event of the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment showed how tough the competition can be as some of its Touring Stars failed to make the feature event. ASAMT officials have just confirmed that one of the hottest drivers in all of racing will be at the next ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event. Kyle Busch has entered the ECHO Chainsaw 100 event on Sunday, May 4th at Madison International Speedway. Last year, Kyle finished sixth in the event that was won by Brandon Hill. Busch also told officials that he will be competing at the ASAMT’s July 20th event at Iowa Speedway and the August 24th Wisconsin All-Star 100 with Matt Kenseth at The Milwaukee Mile. The first event of the 2008 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment is now in the record books with the running of the Kwik Trip 125 last Saturday night at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. A total of 47 teams were on hand with Jake Ryan coming home the winner. Ryan’s win makes him the 10th different driver to win and ASAMT event in twelve point events. Ryan was fast all day long as he recorded the fastest laps in both practice sessions. In the first session, he set a fast lap of 13.674 seconds (98.728 mph) and in the second session, it was lap time of 13.809 seconds (97.762 mph). Ironically, both of those fast laps came on lap 7. A great crowd was on hand to witness Jake Ryan lead a trio of hometown drivers to capture the Kwik Trip 125 at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. It was Ryan’s first win in the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment. “We were chasing the car all day, and I thought we were just going to be a second place car, but we kept chasing the set up and made some big changes at the break and that got us to the win,” an exhausted Ryan stated in victory lane. Eilen, the 2007 ASAMT Rookie of the Year, is getting ready to defend his 2007 ASAMT Elko victory this Saturday night at the Kwik Trip 125 at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. For the first time, a racecar in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour is not only on a mission to win races, but to also raise awareness and support a local cancer center. Last year, the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment made its debut at Elko Speedway, the 3/8-mile high banked oval located in Elko, MN. That event catapulted the series to a successful first season and series officials are hoping for another great start at Elko for the 2008 season. “When Steve Einhaus and I started, we would be happy with around 30 cars. But to have 51 cars show up at the first event was amazing,” Tim Olson, ASAMT President recalled. “It showed us right away that we made the right decision to start this series and it just got better throughout the season. Lyle Nowak captured the season opening event for the Mid-American Series at Rockford Speedway's 31st Annual Spring Classic presented by Yellowbook. It was Nowak's second Spring Classic win in three years, as he captured the 2006 win. Ryan Finley was the early leader in the 50-lap feature event on a cool afternoon of racing. Finley would lead until Don Wood got into the inside of Finley on lap 11 to challenge for the top spot. The two would battle side-by-side until Wood pulled away on lap 13 to become the new leader. 16-year-old Michael Bilderback looked like a season veteran has he would go wire-to-wire and capture his second Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet feature win at the 31st Annual Spring Classic presented by Yellowbook at the Rockford Speedway. Matt Byrne would come home second with defending Big 8 Series Champion, Jeremy Miller in third. "Wow, I can't thank my crew enough," an exhausted Bilderback stated in victory lane. It was a banner year in 2007 for Nathan Haseleu as he became the first ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment Champion. He is looking forward to defending his championship with stronger competition in 2008. “It’s not going to be easier, it was tough to start with,” Haseleu recently stated. “It is going to be interesting to see what happens with the additional quality drivers we are going to have this year. With less than ten days until the season opener at Elko Speedway, the list of short track stars registered for the 2008 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment continues to grow. Former ASA National Tour competitor, Chris Wimmer, is the latest to enter his hat into the ring. The Wausau (WI) native and nephew of the late Larry Detjens, is coming back to the Midwest for many reasons, “I decided to compete in the ASA Midwest Tour this year to hopefully continue my racing career,” Wimmer recently stated. “I moved down South a few years ago and struggled to find a full time ride. During the summer I came back to Wisconsin and started racing some of the local tracks again. I saw some of the Midwest Tour races last year and thought it was a really neat deal. One of the unique things about the Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet is the variety of drivers a fan will see at any of their 2008 events. You will see drivers with multiple track championships all the way to a young 14-year-old driver who surprised many last year at the Oktoberfest season finale.
