Dirt Racing
Shawano's Jeremie Hedrick fought off a fierce challenge from Seymour's Mike Mullen in the early going and fought off a late charging Shawn Kilgore to win the 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 147 cars were on hand, including 35 IMCA modifieds, 43 stock cars, 26 northern sportmods, 18 hobby stocks and 25 sport fours. Press Release (05-27-07)
After two weeks of less than perfect weather conditions, it finally warmed up and the fans came out to see five divisions of racing at Charter Raceway Park Saturday night. On the track, however, the drivers had trouble dealing with what appeared to be a beautifully prepared track. The first A-Main of the evening was the Street Stocks and Jeremy Schwoch jumped out to the lead on the first circuit followed by Noah Schepp and Nate Gross. Roger Frank worked his way past Schwoch before the field completed lap five to take the lead and drop Schwoch to second. Plymouth Dirt Track got its second full night of racing underway this past Saturday night at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. In Grand National racing, Matt Yancey of Sheboygan Falls picked up the win in the first of four heat races over Brad Lubach of Elkart Lake. Tyler Nault of Port Washington won the second heat over Jamie Theobald of Sheboygan. In the third heat, Tim Warner (Malone) put his car to the point for the win over Greg Kempf of Kiel. Brad Dahmer (Sheboygan Falls) took the checkers in the fourth and final heat over Random Lakes Jeremy Sauter. Press Release (05-25-08)
Fremont’s Mike Wedelstadt charged through the field of IMCA modifieds in his first appearance of the year and took home a commanding win at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. Jay Matthias was the early race leader in the IMCA modifieds, with Shawn Kilgore and James Tebon racing side by side for second. Wedelstadt split Kilgore and Tebon through turn four, and set his sights on Matthias. He made the pass down low, and took off with a half a lap lead on the rest of the field. Matthias settled for second, Billy LeMieux, Kilgore and Tebon followed. Press Release (05-25-08)
Lena track update: Plans continue to roll along, albeit slowly, for a new dirt track in the village of Lena. IMCA modified driver Tom Schaal, Mike McDermid and Mark Pavlik plan to build the track on 83 acres of land east of U.S. 141 off of Oconto County A. Right now, we've got a parts store up and running," Schaal said. "Our next step is to build a gas station on the property. The track will come in at later date. We might be able to have a practice in 2009. We'll have to see how things progress." Plans call for a multiuse facility, which will be used for truck and tractor pulls, go-kart racing and snowmobile racing, in addition to stock car racing. Green Bay Press Gazette (05-23-08)
Two weeks into the racing season at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway there are some new faces at the top of the point standings. Five-time IMCA modified track champion Todd “Felix” Dart finds himself in a familiar place leading the points race, and so does two-time defending champ Tony Everard in the 4 cylinders. The weather Saturday night didn’t want to cooperate with the races at Charter Raceway Park, but those fans that came out got to see a full program and some great racing. All five divisions competed and completed all their events for the first time in 2008. The legends provided the scariest moment of the night when Tom Fraser went up and over on lap one ending up on his side. Tom was unhurt. Once restarted, the field was led by Brad Weber followed by Phil Van Tatenhove and Eric Barth. Press Release (05-19-08)
One night after Tim Czarneski rolled his IMCA modified, he took home the checkers at Thunderhill in his backup car. Jeff Vlies also took home his first career IMCA northern sport mod feature win. James Tebon had the lead early on, but Czarneski took to the high side and reeled him in at the halfway point. Czarneski built up a sizable lead on the field running the top line, and cruised to his first career IMCA modified feature win. Todd Dart took advantage of contact between Kevin Sternard and Tebon to sneak into second. Dart was followed by Sternard, Jeremy Jacobs and Tebon at the line. Press Release (05-18-08)
After a hearty attempt to get racing underway, the skies had another plan in mind. Plymouth Dirt Track racing was rained out this weekend. Next Saturday night (May 24, 2008) is Military night. PDTR will honor all service men and women, both active and retired, during the opening ceremonies. Anyone in uniform or showing their discharge card will be granted free admission to the grandstand. The last visit by the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series to the Shawano Raceway (Shawano, WI) saw gas prices inching towards $1.75 per gallon. That was back in September of 2001. On Friday night, May 16, 2008, the talk of diesel fuel prices hitting $5.00 per gallon was the pre-race banter and when the dust settled after the IRA's 25 lap A-Main event, Travis Whitney marked the series return as the feature winner. For the second time this season hometown driver Benji LaCrosse netted a clean sweep of activities in the IMCA modified division at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.. LaCrosse passed Billy LeMieux of Sturgeon Bay for the lead on lap 14 to win the 25 lap IMCA modified feature. A total of 158 cars attended the opening night races, including 37 IMCA modifieds, 43 stock cars, 32 northern sportmods, 21 hobby stocks and 25 sport fours. Press Release (05-17-08)

Daryn Pittman made the most of a rain out, as the World of Outlaw star changed his initial plans for the night and headed towards southeastern Iowa's 34 Raceway which was hosting the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series. Thirty-five cars, including six World of Outlaw regulars tackled the well manicured venue in IRA's first ever sanctioned event on the banked three-eighths. Pittman made his decision payoff as he claimed the win in the ultra-exciting 30 lap headliner in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Pittman piloted his familiar Titan Garage #21 to a clean sweep over a very solid field. Press Release (05-13-08)
On a chilly Saturday night, the racing was hot as Charter Raceway Park opened its regular five division schedule. Although rain shortened the night’s events, the fans were treated to some great racing. The Street Stocks started the night’s A-Mains off with Jesse Kanas taking the top spot at the drop of the green. Jon Schultz and Jerry Kope held down the second and third spots respectively as they worked the inside to try and get past Kanas. They were unsuccessful until lap number eight when they were both able to get past Kanas dropping him to third. That’s the way they would finish with Andrew Araco and Jerry Winkler rounding out the top five. Press Release (05-13-08)
Plymouth Dirt Track kicked off its 2008 racing season this past Saturday night at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. The weather was cool, with rain threatening, but it held off to get the first full night of racing underway. There were 119 cars in total attendance. Sprint cars started off the night with 41 cars in five heats. Brian Kristan (Zion, IL) paced the field in the first heat to pick up the win. Jason Johnson (Allenton) took the lead on lap four of the second heat and kept at the point for the win. Heat three action saw Andy Klumb of Grafton, a sophomore driver in the series, pick up the checkers over Adam Miller of Plymouth. Dave Enders (Kiel), piloting the 51m car, the checkers in the fourth heat. In the fifth and final heat, 2007 PDT Sprint champion, Travis Luedke (Plymouth) and Danny Schlafer (Sussex) raced the final few laps wing to wing with Luedke taking the checkers. John Sternard and Aaron Holiday took home their first career feature wins in the street stock and IMCA northern sport mod divisions respectively on opening night at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. Frog Station’s Dan Ratajczak took command early in the IMCA modified feature event, and built up a sizable lead on the rest of a field. Billy LeMieux charged hard on the inside line with four laps to go to overtake the lead. LeMieux took home the win, followed by Ratajczak, Tim Van De Hei, Todd Dart and Jeremy Jacobs. Hometown driver Dave Zeitler of Luxemburg survived several caution periods and a late race charge by defending track champion Jared Siefert of Green Bay to capture the time shortened, 12 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Zeitler also won his heat, netting a sweep of the division for the night. A weekly track record 163 cars were on hand, including 40 IMCA modifieds, 44 stock cars, 32 northern sportmods, 21 hobby stocks and 26 sport fours. Press Release (05-11-08)
After rainfall canceled the scheduled races the past two Saturday evenings at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway, Mother Nature seems like it will cooperate this weekend. Racing will get underway this Saturday, May 10th at 6 p.m. The weekly programs will consist of the IMCA modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks, sport mods, street stocks and 4 cylinders. he night is sponsored by Maas Floral of Sturgeon Bay along with WDOR 93.9 and Wulf Brothers. Donny Goeden captured the season opener for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series by capturing Round 1 of Charter Raceway Park's Duel At The Dam. Goeden, last year's winningest IRA driver, picked up where he left off last season with another trip to victory lane aboard the Bob Walldan owned #11 Maxim. Despite starting on the front row, the win by no means came easy. Action galore throughout the field gave the fans who braved an extremely cold evening a show well worth the trip. Opening night at Charter Raceway Park was chilly but the racing was red hot as the Badger Midget Series and the Interstate Racing Association sprint cars took to the 1/3 mile oval. In the headline event for the IRA cars, the action got off to a rough start with Tommy Sexton flipping his 83D machine going into turn number one just after completing lap number 1. Sexton was ok but was obviously done for the night. On the restart, King was able to get a great jump and worked past Goeden. But following another yellow on lap 19, King coasted to the infield with a report of being out of gas giving the lead back to Goeden. Following a red flag incident on lap 25, Goeden went on to the win followed by Steve Meyer and Scotty Neitzel. Press Release (05-5-08)

For the second straight week heavy rains Thursday night into Friday have forced promoters at Luxemburg Speedway to cancel the planned stock cars racesat the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds. WIR Tidbits: Jack Pankratz who took a while ride last week almost had the car ready last night, but a few things remain to be done on the car. Doug Carpenter's #88 wasn't at the track last night due to his son graduating from High School. Michael Anthony made his debut in a second #50 Anthony Brothers Racing Entry. #66 Troy Nelson who took a while ride will be headed to his chassis company this week as his car needs a new stub. Andy Monday had a tough night as the team continues to face motor problems. Team radio communication stated the car was stumbling down the straight aways as if the car was only on 7 cylinders. The team will skip this weekends planned ASA Midwest Tour race to be prepared for Thursday Night. Kris Kelly was behind the wheel of the #18 Late Model as Robb Vanderloop was out of town. (05-30-08)
No Racing at MIS Tonight. Due to the heavy rainfall resulting in standing water in our pit area, infield, and water coming up through the track in turn one, we have cancelled all racing events for Friday, May 30th. With skies threatening to open up the races went on at Wisconsin International Raceway. In Late Model action it was Lowell Bennett taking fast time for the second week in a row. Heat winners were Pete Vandermolen Jr and Jeff Van Oudenhoven with Terry Baldry taking the fast dash win. Tim Rothe took the win in the feature event over Tom Gee Jr. and Jeff Van Oudenhoven. A wild wreck took place with the #66 of Troy Nelson going up and over the top of #05 Nate Van Wychen's car. In Limited Late Model action JIm Duchow was the fast qualifier in the #66 Lamers Racing entry. Heat winners were Randy Van Roy and Travis Stebane with Brandon Conrad taking the fast dash. The feature event was won by Jim Ebben over Todd Verhagen and Andy Kluck. Other Feature winners: Sport Trucks - Jason Plutz, Super Stocks - Donald Van Camp, Sizzlin 4's - Scott Verboomen, Figure 8's - Jared Baughman. (05-30-08)

David Prunty was able to outrun the competition in the E.H. Wolf and Son’s Memorial Day 80 lap Late Model feature at Slinger Speedway on Sunday night. Unfortunately, outrunning the weather was not in the cards. The Late Model feature race was shortened to 64 laps when rain hit the track, halting the action for the evening. Rich Loch led the first seventeen laps of the Late Model semi feature. But it would be Jeff Way taking the lead from Loch and holding on to the position for the final eight laps of the race to take the win. Both Way and Loch transferred to the feature race. Todd Hebel took control in the final 100 lap segment en route to victory in the season's first 300 lap Tisler Salvage Enduro Sunday afternoon at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. The first 100 lap segment belonged to Dave Beyer. Beyer and Jay Orr swapped the lead back and forth until Orr was sidelined after being caught up in crash in the third turn. The number "66" was significant during the opening night of Fox River Racing Club competition at Wisconsin International Raceway on Thursday for several reasons. It's the age of one of the area's racing legends, the number of one veteran driver making his debut in limited late models and another driver making his return to the Kaukauna-area speedway on a regular basis for the first time in five years, not to mention the number of the driver who won the Wisconsin sport truck feature. A late high line pass of Travis Groelle carried Brett Piontek to his first MidAmerican feature win of the season Saturday night at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. Joining Piontek in victory lane on the second night of the season were Greg Thompson in the Super Stocks, Todd Hebel in the Mini-stocks, Dave Gauger, Sr in the Sport 4 class and Aaron Gretz in the Hobby Stocks. Ryan Goldade proved that being in the right place at the right time paid off as he drove to victory in the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Model feature on Weaver Auto Parts Night presented by Yellow Book at Madison International Speedway. Joining Goldade in victory lane were Andrew Morrissey in the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models, Jay Kalbus in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Jody Schmidt in the Roto Rooter Bandits, and Alex Arelano in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends. Last evening was the opener for the Fox River Racing Club's Thursday Night Thunder. In Super Late Models 26 cars took to the track, with Lowell Bennett taking fast time. Heat winners were Brad Dahmer and Gregg Haese with Kyle Calmes taking the dash win. The feature race saw a great side by side race between Andy Monday and Tom Gee Jr until Monday made contact with the backstretch wall. Mike Gardner would take the win over Jeff Van Oudenhoven, JJ Smith and Mark Schroeder. In Limited Late Models 23 cars took to the track with Gary Bock taking fast time. Heat winners were Randy Van Roy and Dan Peterman with Jim Duchow taking the dash win. Jim Duchow blew the motor in his car during practice and took over TJ Lamers ride for the night. The feature had a huge crash take place in which Jack Pankratz car went up the wall and that took over 100 feet of fence down. Brandon Conrad scored his first feature win of his career. For the third straight year, the Rockford Speedway will transform from a racing facility to a concert facility as it will play host to the 15th Annual WXRX Budweiser Wing Ding. The event will take place on Sunday, May 25th. Press Release (05-23-08)

An 80 lap Late Model Feature will headline the racing events. The entry form for The Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge event scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th is now available at www.kevinramsell.com and www.madisoninternationalspeedway.com. This year's super late model event will pay $10,000 to win with $650 to start the 100-lap feature event. Teams that pre-enter the event will be eligible for the $10,000 to win and $7,000 for second along with the Bumper-to-Bumper Pole Award of $500 and the Monte's Grill & Pub Halfway Bonus of $500. Teams that do not pre-enter will not be eligible for the pole award and halfway bonus and if they finish in the top-two, they will receive a reduced top prize of $7,500 and $5,000 for second place. Five divisions of cars will be in action this Friday night (May 23rd) when Madison International Speedway plays host to Weaver Auto Parts Night presented by Yellow Book. Racing action will take place in the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models, Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models, Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Roto Rooter Bandits, and Pellitteri Legends. Jeremy Lepak edged Mike Strupp to capture the 70-lap Alan Kulwicki Memorial late model feature presented by Goeman’s Rapid Mart BP Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway to give one-time Kulwicki car owner Gerry Gunderman his first win in the prestigious late model event. Just proud!” were the words Lepak used to describe what winning the event named for the late NASCAR champion meant to him. “Alan drove for Gerry years ago and worked in the same race shop we work in today and it’s an honor to represent him here. At first glance, it might look as if Jim Duchow wanted to slow down a bit. After racing late model stock cars for almost 20 years in Fox River Racing Club action at Wisconsin International Raceway in Buchanan, the 53-year-old Appleton driver will compete in the limited late model division for the first time this season, a drop from the fastest division on the half-mile track to the slowest. There's a buzz at Wisconsin International Raceway this season. The "Killer B's" are back. After five years of doing their own things, 11-time Fox River Racing Club late model stock car champion Terry Baldry and seven-time championship car owner Mike Butz have reunited to make another run at the championship at the Buchanan half-mile track, which has been won the past two seasons by Tim Rothe. Rockford Speedway has cancelled its racing program for this Saturday night due to inclement weather. On Sunday afternoon, the USAC Midget Series will make its first appearance to the Rockford Speedway since 1979 with its Midget Maynia Tour with qualifying at 1 pm and racing scheduled to start at 2 pm. In racing circles, the words “Month of May” are loaded with tradition, especially to those fans who patronize the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) the fifth month of each year. For Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Tracy Hines, Levi Jones and their fellow USAC National Midget Car Series competitors, this week in racing’s most historic month has taken on new meaning. TSR’s Hines and Jones head to Wisconsin Friday and Saturday and to Illinois Sunday to compete in the first three events of the Midget Maynia Tour. Kicking off the weekend’s racing action with be Friday’s 30-lap event at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wis. The USAC Midgets will compete on the 5/8-mile oval for the first time in series history. Saturday’s second leg of the Midget Maynia Tour takes the USAC Midgets to Slinger (WI) Super Speedway for the series’ first appearance at the facility since 1984. We are told that there is a new chassis manufacture in the area that just started up early this year. Joe use to work at Randercar for many years and left earlier this year to start his own business, Racetech Chassis out of Berlin Wisconsin. Frank Nitzke is driving one of these new chassis as Golden Sands Speedway weekly. This past Friday Frank lead the whole feature until the motor went flat toward the end of the race. Eugene Gregorich Jr. will also be racing one of these new chassis during the 2008 season. Joe is also in the process of building a chassis for the Jeff Van Oudenhoven team to serve as a backup car. The weather was cooperative, once again, for another great evening of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action. Ricky Bilderback, Brock Behnke, Nick Cina, Jr., Gene Marocco, and John Vassh, Jr. all went home with trophies at the Rockford Speedway. Five racing divisions greeted fans on this cool evening that featured the much anticipated return of the Super Late Models as a weekly division on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile. Steve Rubeck would take home top honors in the Super Lates with Chad Stevens in the Limited Late Models, Jay Kalbus in the Area Sportsman, Chester Ace in the Bandits, and Alex Arelano in the Legends also claiming feature victories. Lowell Bennett would never brag about this, but it's true. He is the sort of racer who provides a connection to a simpler day a generation or two ago, before NASCAR and video games took over the world, when high school sweethearts would rather snuggle on the Slinger Speedway bleachers than spend the night sending texts and instant messages. There is a new 6 pm starting time at Slinger Speedway and it begins this Sunday Night May 11th when Pepsi Americas presents the Pepsi Challenge Series Round 1 at Slinger Speedway. A 60 lap Late Model Feature will headline the racing events. Chris Slack of Gandrud Chevrolet in Green Bay sees their involvement in area motor sports as a two-way street. The parts supplier and dealership inked a deal for title sponsorship of an eight-race stock car series at tracks in Wisconsin and Illinois this year. "I can't expect the racers to buy parts from us if we're not involved in (racing) sponsorship somehow," said Chris Slack, parts manager at Gandrud. Roy Kenseth of RK Race Promotions has announced that the current NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader will be competing in The Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge event on Tuesday, June 24th at Madison International Speedway. Track officials are erecting buildings, signs and installing new fencing as 141 Speedway in Francis Creek gets a new facelift just in time for the 2008 racing season. The season kicks off Saturday, May 17. New co-promoters Bruce Terp and Don Murray have been giving the 1/4 mile paved oval a new look. "We've got a ton of projects, some of which we'll be working on right up until opening day," said Murray. "We've completely gutted and remodeled the new Victory Lane Pub, as well as installing a new main gate, all new lighting and a family picnic area as well." New landscaping both inside the oval and outside the track has been done. "All of our nights are sponsored and we've already got $5,000 in a driver's point fund," said Murray. Press Release (05-6-08)

Steve Rubeck, George Sparkman, Terrance Robinson, and Tim Brickhouse took home feature wins on USG Night/BOB 95.3 FM Family Night at the Rockford Speedway. Rubeck, a two-time Spring Classic winner, started on the pole of the 30-lap feature event and quickly showed that being up front was the place to be. Press Release (05-5-08)
Lowell Bennett swept by Al Schill to take the lead just past the halfway mark and went on to win the Miller Lite 120 Spring Opener presented by Emily’s Restaurant Sunday afternoon at the Slinger Super Speedway. “I was just on cruise control there at the end”, Bennett stated after pulling away for the convincing win. “This is a great way to start out the year.” Press Release (05-4-08)
Races (at Golden Sands Speedway) are canceled for this Friday May 2nd due to the weather. We will not raindate this race. If any more Friday's get rained out this season we will start having raindates on Sundays. Next week we will be having the 4-Cylinders and Cruiser division. The majority owner of Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI realizes that he is in the entertainment capital of Wisconsin and he needs to do what he can to compete in that market. ASAMT Officials have just received an entry form from NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Tim Sauter for this Sunday’s Miller Lite 100 presented by Arby’s ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event at Dells Raceway Park. The Necedah, WI native is the third member of the well-known Sauter family to enter the event. Sauter will be piloting the famous “0” car normally driven by Scott Ollerman, “I think it will be a lot of fun,” Sauter stated. “I had a chance to test the car for Scott a few weeks ago at Dells. Many of the teams had a busy weekend. ASAMT Touring Star, Andrew Morrissey, currently second in ASAMT points, had a great weekend as he took home feature wins at Madison International Speedway on Friday night and followed that up with a feature win at Dells Raceway Park on Saturday night. It has been a tough start to the 2008 season for Jonathan Eilen and it appeared that streak would continue. But, luck would turn around for him as he would capture the Kwik Trip Stores 100 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event at Jefferson Speedway in Cambridge, WI. “Boy we really needed this,” a happy Eilen stated in victory lane. “We had our problems all day with the motor. We actually had the back up car out ready to go and we thought for sure we would have to go to that one, but this car was like a rocket on rails.” Press Release (05-18-08)
Hearing Dave Feiler and the #96 team will skip this weekend's ASA Midwest Tour race at Jefferson Speedway. The team failed to make the season opening race at Elko Speedway and had to run the last chance race at Madison to make the feature. Jefferson Speedway, well known as Wisconsin’s Action Track, will host the third event of the 2008 season for the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment. The Kwik Trip Stores 100 will highlight the evening’s race activities. Last year, Nathan Haseleu, the defending ASAMT champion, picked up his only win so far in the series 13 events. Haseleu, who started his racing career at Jefferson, is looking forward to returning and defending his win. “I always enjoyed racing there; it’s a small track for super late models to race on,” Haseleu stated. “It’s a little bullring and I think it was repaved a few years ago, so it has good traction. Back in January, Dan Fredrickson made this statement, “Going into this season, if we get a good start and have a good time at what we are doing, we will make a run for the points.” After two events, its safe to say that he is on track as he holds a 62-point lead over Josh Vadnais after two events. Dan Fredrickson will admit that he never had a good run at Madison International Speedway. After tonight, Madison is one of his favorite tracks as he captured the ASAMT ECHO Chainsaw 100 in front of a large crowd. “I haven’t won here and never been real good here, but had a pretty sweet car here tonight,” a happy Fredrickson stated in victory lane. “I hope we can keep going with this, it was cool to beat Carlson and Busch. Jeremy Miller and Michael Bilderback got the large crowd on hand at Madison International Speedway on their feet as the two put on a classic short track battle in the Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet feature event. At the checkers, it was the defending champion holding off the young pilot. Bilderback led most of the 38-lap event, while Miller made a hard charge at the end. "I kinda used Mikey up there. He was pinching me on the bottom and I got a better run than him and he was slowing up, so I gave him a little nudge just to move him back where he belonged. Just like Richard Dreyfuss climbed up a hill to see Devil’s Tower in “Close Encounter of the Third Kind”, you climb up to see what you imagined it would look like. For many, that is how their first experience is when they come to Madison International Speedway the first time.
