Dirt Racing
Although he won the IMCA modified points title for the sixth time in 2008, Algoma's Todd Dart did not have a single feature win on the season. It didn't take him long to grab his first feature win of 2009, and he notched his second feature win tonight at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway. Brussels' Shawn Havel also captured his second feature win of the season at Thunderhill in the IMCA stock car division. Havel grabbed the lead early and never relinquished, fending off an early challenge from division rookie Dave DeGrave to take the checkers. DeGrave finished second, Pat Davister third, Dave Bouche fourth and Bret Koehler fifth. Press Release (05-31-09)
Green Bay's Benji LaCrosse fought off Seymour veteran Brian Mullen with five laps to go and went on to capture the 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night, his second here of the season. A total of 120 cars were on hand, including 27 IMCA modifieds, 33 stock cars, 27 northern sportmods, 17 hobby stocks, and 16 sport fours. Press Release (05-30-09)

After 10 years of racing on area dirt tracks, Benji LaCrosse can say he's "been there, done that." At 33, LaCrosse is set to begin a new chapter in his career. He'll make his debut on the asphalt Saturday night in the Mid-American sportsman class at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. It's just time for me to try something different," said LaCrosse, who still is competing for the points championship in his IMCA modified Fridays at Luxemburg and Sundays at Seymour. Craig Priewe distanced himself from the rest of the Modified field, slicing through traffic to take his second win of the season in as many races at Charter Raceway Park. 113 cars took to the track in six divisions for the second regular season event at the third mile oval on Saturday evening. In the Sport Mod feature, Jeff Schmule wrestled the point away from early leader Ray Keyser on the second lap and went on to lead the rest of the caution free race. New Franken's Shawn Kilgore made the move to the inside of Kevin Sternard on the final lap to win he IMCA modified feature at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway. Kilgore also took home the win on Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway. In other action, Chargin' Charlie Kroll dominated the IMCA stock car feature while Jarred VanLaanen led every lap of the IMCA hobby stock feature event. Press Release (05-25-09)
Kewaunee's Shawn Kilgore became the first repeat feature winner of the early season at Luxemburg Speedway. Kilgore scampered past Eric Van Iten for the lead on lap 14 and never looked back, going on to win the caution free, 25 lap IMCA modified feature Friday night. A total of 114 cars were on hand, including 26 IMCA modifieds, 32 stock cars, 25 northern sportmods, 18 hobby stocks, and 13 street stocks. Press Release (05-22-09)
With two weeks in the book at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway, a smooth racing surface has enabled some great racing and fantastic feature finishes thus far.
The new clay added in the offseason has held together quite nicely, keeping the dreaded ruts out of the track and keeping drivers happy. The track conditions have helped the track keep some IMCA modified drivers around like Mike Wedelstadt of Fremont and Art Siefert of Green Bay. Press Release (05-20-09)
The street stock division will make the first of three appearances on the year Friday night, May 22 at Luxemburg Speedway. Local northeast Wisconsin street stocks are welcome. "Basically cars that meet the rules at tracks in Sturgeon Bay and Seymour will be legal for our shows," said track manager Rick Goral. The other two dates the street stocks will compete at Luxemburg will be August 7 and the two day Fall Classic September 18 and 19. Press Release (05-19-09)
Algoma's Todd Dart took the lead early and held off another former champion Jeremy Jacobs on his way to the IMCA modified feature win at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway. Also, Ellisville's Robert Waechter Jr. picked up his 1st career IMCA hobby stock feature win. Sturgeon Bay's Kevin Sternard led the early stages of the IMCA modified feature, until a spin by Dan Ratajczak bunched the field. Dart and Jacobs would both attempt to make the pass on Sternard, with Dart down low and Jacobs up high. Dart was able to get the better run and hugged the tires, picking up the feature win. Jacobs finished second, Shawn Kilgore third, Sternard fourth and last week's winner Mike Wedelstadt fifth. Press Release (05-17-09)
Kewaunee's Brian Bruechert won his second straight, 22 lap IMCA stock car feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night with a thrilling, final lap pass of Green Bay's John Heinz Like Bruechert, Jared Van Laanen swept action in the IMCA hobby stock division. Defending track champion Tim Jorgensen of De Pere won his second, 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature. The IMCA modified and sport four features were rained out. Press Release (05-16-09)
Kasey Kahne is coming to Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on Tuesday, June 2 for Kasey Kahne Night. He’ll not only be meeting and greeting fans, but he’ll have with him one of his 850-horsepower fire breathing winged 410-sprint cars to take on the best of the best from the Bumper to Bumper/ IRA Outlaw Sprint Series, as well as two special guests from the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Fremont’s Mike Wedelstadt took the lead away from Green Bay’s Art Siefert and never looked back cruising to the IMCA modified victory. In the IMCA stock cars, Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger was able to fend of a late race charge from John Heinz and win from the pole at Thunderhill. Press Release (05-11-09)
Seymour's Brian Mullen scampered past Green Bay's Benji LaCrosse with two laps remaining to win the 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 134 cars were on hand, including 32 IMCA modifieds, 36 IMCA stock cars, 28 IMCA northern sportmods, 22 IMCA hobby stocks and 16 sport fours. The 2009 season at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway gets underway this Saturday night, May 9 at 6pm, sponsored by WDOR 93.9. IMCA modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks, sport mods, NEW super stocks and 4 cylinders will compete weekly through the month of August. “This year is going to be a no-frills year for the track,” said track promoter Bryan “Woody” Wodack. “We’re going to come here to race our weekly program and have a good time.” Press Release (05-9-09)
With the 2009 racing season right around the corner, Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway’s website has received a big overhaul. The new look was put together by Chris Budzban of budzodesigns.com, whom also handles the public relations duties of the track. “When I took over the website duties last year, I did everything the hard way. This year I’ve added functions which allow fans to become more involved and ‘in the flow’ along with a more user-friendly look,” said Budzban. Press Release (05-6-09)
A total of 51 cars showed up at the Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway for an afternoon practice session. The practice, along with a car show earlier in the day, was sponsored by 97.7 The Big Dawg radio station. Winners of the car show were Ryan LeMieux in the IMCA modifieds, Don Aregoni in the IMCA stock cars, CJ Weckler in the IMCA hobby stocks, Shawn LeMieux in the IMCA northern sport mods, Jeremy Wiitala in the NEW super stocks and Kipp Burlo in the 4 cylinders. Kewaunee's Shawn Kilgore passed Sturgeon Bay's Kevin Sternard on the final lap to win the green-to-checkered 22 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 138 cars were on hand, including 39 IMCA modifieds, 36 IMCA stock cars, 28 IMCA northern sportmods, 18 IMCA hobby stocks and 17 sport fours. The Great Lakes Region FASTRAK Late Model Memorial Day Salute is less than a month away! While America salutes our troops and forces we will pay homage to our troops for all they have done by having a racing extravaganza. Fastrak Great Lakes Late Model drivers will compete in a 40 lap feature for the richest purse in Fastrak Great Lakes History. Hometown driver Benji LaCrosse dodged several cautions and fought off defending track champion Brian Mullen of Seymour to win the season opening, 22 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Radio station WSRG 97.7 “The Big Dawg” is on board as a sponsor for Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway’s car show and practice, scheduled for May 2. If there is a recession you surely would not notice it walking around the pit area at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. The pit area at the track was chock full of racing haulers and cars as crew members scrambled to get their cars setup during an open practice session. A total of 96 machines representing seven different divisions were on hand during an open "test and tune" at the third-mile, clay oval located at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds. 25 IMCA modifieds were on hand, along wih 20 northern sportmods, 21 stock cars, 13 hobby stocks, 10 sport fours, five street stocks and two late models. That number is a track record for any prior practice session at the track in recent history. Press Release (04-19-09)
The fact that Tim Jorgensen is stuck with both of his IMCA northern sportmods yet is bad news for his competitors in that division. Last year the De Pere driver recorded 20 feature wins en route to IMCA's state crown and tying Iowan Luke Wanninger for the national crown. However Wanninger's tie breaker was more feature wins, so Jorgensen settled for runnerup honors in the national ranks. Jorgensen had planned on selling his sportmods - one Harris and one Dirtworks chassis. Neither sold during the winter. Press Release (04-16-09)
Seymour's Brian Mullen can perhaps be considered the Dean of local IMCA modified racing. And who could argue with that statement? With 121 career modified feature wins under his belt, and one dozen track titles to boot, Mullen has nabbed one half dozen crowns at both Seymour and Luxemburg Speedways. Last year Mullen crushed the competition at Luxemburg's Friday night show, outdistancing former champion Benji LaCrosse by a point margin of 524 to 493. Press Release (04-14-09)
Luxemburg Speedway's official website has received a makeover of sorts, thanks to Chris Budzban at Budzo Designs of Luxemburg, Wisconsin. luxemburgspeedway.com has been revamped and will receive more frequent updates throughout the season. "It was just time for a fresh look with the website and Chris has done an outstanding job with that," said track manager Rick Goral. "One can see many of his other websites and the dedication and passion he has for his work really shows. This year I'm confident the website will receive it's fair share of TLC." Dennis Prunty charged to his first super late model feature win, holding off Conrad Morgan to take top honors in the first round Pepsi Challenge 70-lap main event Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. “Conrad’s an awesome driver, “Prunty stated, explaining his race long battle with the veteran Morgan. “I had a fast car tonight and everybody did a great job out there, my hat is off to them.” Press Release (06-1-09)
Daryl Gerke of Whitelaw took the lead at the drop of the green and kept Reedsville's Kyle Bauknecht and company at bay to collect the 35 lap Mid American Stock Car feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday. Two Rivers Dave Gauger Jr. passed Josh Sand for the lead on lap 14 and sweated out a pair of caution periods to capture his first, 30 lap super stock feature win. Sand held on for runnerup honors, with Lee Kielpikowski taking third. Manitowoc's Tim Conard recovered from an early spin to finish fourth, with fast timer Kraig Koehler rounding out the top five finishers. Press Release (05-31-09)

Bob Wilberg calmly worked his way through traffic to take the checkered flag in the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models tonight as part of Weaver Auto Parts / Scout Night at Madison International Speedway. Bret Schmidt took top honors in the Brown Heating and Air Conditioning Area Sportsman with Bobby Selsing Jr. winning a thriller in the Weaver Auto Parts Hobby Stocks, Chester Ace topping the field in the Roto Rooter Bandits, and Max McNamara back in victory lane for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends. FRRC Opener Notes: Tim Rothe was running a brand new car last night. Maxwell Schultz was involved in a wreck which resulted in him making hard contact with the turn 3 wall. The front stub is bent on the car and the team might miss a couple weeks putting the car back togethor. (05-29-09)

In Limited Late Model action it was Jim Duchow taking fast qualifying honors and setting a new track record. Kris Kelly took the feature win over Jim Duchow. Sunday Night May 31st is The Pepsi Challenge Round 1. A 70 Lap Super Late Model Feature will headline the racing events along with a 10,000 Nickel Drop for kids 11 and under. Super Late Models will be joined by: Late Models, Midwest Sportsman, Thunderstock, Slinger Bee’s Figure 8’s, Westbury Bank Speedway Guest Cars and one on one grudge races. MIS E-News Week of May 29, 2009 (05-27-09)
With over 100 cars at Dells Raceway Park, an American Speed Association track, on Saturday, May 23rd the crowd was in for some great racing and a night of firsts as new drivers brought home the win, and DRP favorites were welcomed back. Dan Lensing, in the Super Late Model division, set his first Quick Qualifying time for the 2009 season with a 13.595. In the feature race with the field inverted 14 positions, Lensing had a lot of cars to pass and only 50 laps to accomplish it. John Zimmerman made his return to DRP and started the feature in eighth position. However, time ran out and it was John Zimmerman who claimed the feature win for the night. Don "Thunder" Turner claimed the fast dash trophy and John Zimmerman won the heat race. Press Release (05-27-09)
Eugene Ciferno is a race car driver from Pennsylvania who has raced a couple times at WIR. For the summer he will be living in the area due to his job. Eugene brought his #16 race car with him and will race full time at WIR in the Limited Late Model Division. (05-26-09)

Lightning struck before the thunder as Lowell Bennett won the E.H.. Wolf & Sons Memorial Day Special feature at prior to the huge fireworks show on Sunday night. The victory was Bennett’s second during the early 2009 season at Slinger Super Speedway. Bennett took command a third of the way through the eighty lap feature and held off a hard charging Eric Fransen on his way to victory lane. “I had to work for that one, those boys were pretty quick behind me”, commented a happy Bennett in victory lane. “What an awesome show for the fans here. Scott Leisner broke free from a three-car battle late in the event to pull away and win the 300 lap Tisler Salvage Memorial Day Enduro Sunday afternoon at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. The victory was Leisner’s second podium finish in as many events this year, after posting a second place run in the series opener in April. Press Release (05-25-09)
Cato's Jesse Fuller led from the drop of the green, and wound up victorious in a photo finish in the Pa Murray Memorial 50 lap Mid American Sportsman feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday. Defending super stock track champion Tim Conard of Manitowoc rebounded after a tough week, where he blew his motor during the season opener a week ago. Conard found much better fortunes this time around, as Conard put a dusting on the field, winning the 35 lap super stock feature. Press Release (05-25-09)
After back to back rainouts to open the season, Mother Nature cooperated tonight as six divisions came to Madison International Speedway eager to their seasons off on the right track. Scott Broughton proved that he will be a force to reckon with in the Rockweiler Insulation Late Model division in 2009 as he won the 50 lap feature by holding off a talented field of drivers. Jay Kalbus, Todd Ambrose, Kyle Padfield, Aaron Moyer, and John Wood also won features in their respective divisions on opening night at MIS. Press Release (05-25-09)
WIR Practice Day Notes: Eddie Muenster will drive Matt Maynard's Late Model for the first couple of Thursday Nights and the Red, White and Blue races. Gary Natrop is driving a brand new Racetech car while Jessie Van Roy is driving Gary's car from last year. Supposedly there could end up being a 3rd LP Motorsports car. Lamer's Racing will have 3 Limited Late Models this season with Jim Duchow, TJ Lamers and Tanner Bohlin all driving. Terry Baldry will drive Brady Baldry's Late Model in the Red, White and Blue races and maybe more races if sponsorship is secured. (05-23-09)

The Mid American Sportsman feature winner May 23 at 141 Speedway will pocket $550, thanks to some bonus money thrown into the purse by 141 Speedway investor Donny Murray. The track's top division will feature a 50 lap feature. In addition, Murray is throwing an additional $100 each towards the feature winners in the Super stocks, IMCA northern sportmods, IMCA hobby stocks and sport fours at the quarter mile, paved oval. The first ever "Clash at the Creek" slated for Wednesday, July 22 at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek will feature three of IMCA's most popular divisions at the quarter-mile, paved oval located 20 minutes south of Green Bay. An off night for most area drivers, the four division show will feature IMCA northern sportmods, stock cars, hobby stocks and sport fours. The track will dole out state, regional and national points in the IMCA classes. The northern sportmods will run a 50 lap feature for $500 to win while IMCA stock cars will battle in a 40 lap contest for a $400 top prize. IMCA hobby stocks will race for $200 to win in a 30 lap race while the sport four, 20 lap feature winner will receive $150. Press Release (05-19-09)
Dells Raceway Park welcomed the Super Late Models back this Saturday night with clear skies and brisk temperatures. The Grand National Vintage Racers, Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, and Pure Stocks also joined them on track for a great night of racing. In addition, cars from Automotion treated the fans to parade laps and a burnout contest. Jeff Kendall, the 2008 Track Champion in the Super Late Model Division started his season off by qualifying first with a 13.346. In the 50 lap feature Steve Holzhausen started in fourth and slowly made his way to the front of the field with Jeff Kendall close behind him. 25 laps into the feature and it was Steve Holzhausen in the lead with Jeff Kendall in second and battling for the lead. What started out as a pilot project with nine Saturdays and a Wednesday night special for the IMCA northern sportmod at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek has evolved into a full time weekly gig at the quarter-mile, paved oval. The fan response from the debut of the fenderless cars at the season opener May 16 has prompted track investor Bruce Conard to add the cars to every Saturday night in 2009. "We got a lot of good fan response from this class opening night," said Conard. "So we've decided to add them every week. We've still got guys calling to come out and practice during the week. Jamie Wallace took the lead just past the halfway mark and then held off David Prunty to capture the victory in the 17th Annual Bob Fish Pontiac Buick GMC Alan Kulwicki Memorial 60-lap super late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. “It couldn’t have ended any better,” Wallace exclaimed from victory lane after scoring his second win in the prestigious event held in honor of the late Alan Kulwicki, the 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup champion from Greenfield. “All the guys out here raced us clean and I have to thank them for that.” Press Release (05-18-09)
For the second straight week the rain stole the show at MIS as officials were forced to cancel the Friday night racing program. “We got some rain here today plus the forecast is for cooler temperatures and more rain later in the day. Jimbo Schleis of Manitowoc passed Travis Rodewald of Manitowoc for the lead on lap 14 and survived several caution periods to win the season opening, 35 lap Mid American sportsman feature at 141 Speedway Saturday night. Francis Creek's Kraig Koehler captured the 30 lap super stock feature, fighting off Josh Sand of Francis Creek in a spirited battle all race long. An open practice scheduled for today at 141 Speedway was washed out by rain showers and has been rescheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, May 14) at the quarter-mile, paved oval from 4 p.m. til dusk. Adam White's racing season didn't start too well this year. The Bay Port high school senior finished eighth in the IMCA Northern sportmod feature event on opening night at Luxemburg Speedway. Last Friday, his car's engine blew, ending his night. Then White learned of the "Gong Show" at 141 Speedway, where car owner Bruce Conard was hosting auditions for his full-time ride on Saturday nights at the ¼-mile paved oval. With a burning desire to try pavement racing but without a fat wallet, White, a fourth generation driver, threw his hat in the ring. Sad News: Jeff Falbe, 50, was found dead Thursday night at his business, after a race car apparently rolled off four weight monitors and landed on him as he was working underneath it. Mark Schroeder is preparing two cars for the 2009 season. Mark will race weekly at Wisconsin International Raceway with the same car he raced last season. The front stub has been cut off the car and a new Rightfoot Performance stub has been put on the car. A second chassi has been acquired and is being prepared in hopes of racing at Norway Speedway. Because of the economy, the WIR has decided to do away with its super late model feature on Saturday nights, but that doesn't mean the long-time Red, White, and Blue State Championship series is going away. 2008 141 Speedway track champions have been busy prepaing their machines for their 2009 title defenses for when the season kicks off Saturday night, May 16 at the quarter-mile, paved oval. Green Bay's Brett Piontek will open his title defense in the Mid American Sportsman division. Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Member Track, kicked off their season with a full field of cars as the Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, Bandits, and the United States Super Trucks took to the track. With 23 Limited Late Models, competition was fierce during the 60 lap Special Feature. Corey Jankowski, who moved up a division this year from Super Stocks to Limited Late Models, started on the pole and didn't look back. After timing in second and starting in 9th position Mike Ehde worked his way up the field to second by lap 54. For twelve years, Randy Schuler towed his super late model to the Slinger Super Speedway, having never left with the big trophy. That all changed Sunday afternoon as the veteran driver from Mequon ran a superb race to capture his first career super late model feature victory in the season opening Miller Lite 120. “There’s going to be a lot of celebrating tonight!” Schuler exclaimed after climbing from his car in Victory Lane. “It’s been a great day! Using a method popularized by Sprint Cup owner Jack Roush, a fully Funded Mid American sportsman ride for Saturday nights at 141 Speedway will be available for drivers to qualify for in the next couple of weeks. Conard Motorsports of Manitowoc is offering the ride to a driver, who will be selected. "What we really need is for a qualified driver to take this complete race car, house it, wrench on it and race it all season long,” said Conard. “What we’d really like is to give a crack to a talented driver from the local dirt track scene. Qualifying will start at Noon and racing at 2:00 pm. The Miller Lite 120 Spring Opener will run the same format as last year with the Feature Event for the Super Late Models running two 60-lap segments. A fixture at northeastern Wisconsin race tracks going on three decades, Dan and Mary have been shooting photos of race cars and providing several fan and driver racing-related products since 1987. Drivers who plan on competing in either the IMCA northern sportmod or hobby stock divisions at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek in 2009 will have the chance to rent the quarter-mile, paved oval free of charge one time this year. Earlier this year track officials announced that the two IMCA sanctioned divisions would be competing as the track celebrates it's 50th year in existence. Since open wheeled modifieds haven't competed in any sanctioned events at the track since 1987, track investor Bruce Conard has agreed to offer a free "test and tune" day for drivers in these two classes. Steve Carlson looked at the last 50-laps of the Race for the Gold Bronze Race as a regular Saturday night shootout as he went on to win his second straight American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment race at Dells Raceway Park. His fifth overall win in front of an awesome crowd at the 1/3-mile facility. "Isn't that great?" a smiling Carlson said in victory lane. "There isn't much of a second groove here and everybody is on the bottom racing around so that is where I raced. You are going to rub fenders, its just the nature of the Dells. West Salem, WI Steve Carlson held off a plethora of Minnesota drivers to win the Elko 125 in front of a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend crowd at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. It was Carlson's fourth overall win in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment. It was not an easy victory for the veteran as Carlson would hold off Minnesota drivers Jake Ryan, Dan Fredrickson, Donny Reuvers, Jonathan Eilen, and Adam Royle. With only two events into the 2009 season, it is already appearing that the 2009 Lane Automotive Rookie of the Year title will be a great battle in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment. In fact, seven of the ten registered rookies are currently in the top-20 in the point standings. Jacob Goede so far leads the rookie crop as he is currently tied for fourth in the standings, only 34 points behind current leader Nathan Haseleu. It was almost two years since he won his last American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment. Tonight, he ended that drought by winning the Joe Shear Classic at Madison International Speedway as he held off Jeremy Lepak for the win. “Its been a while since we won one, but we are pretty proud,” Haseleu stated in victory lane. “I was pretty choked up there in those final laps when I got away from Jeremy. I knew that if I didn’t screw up that I was going to win. Its pretty cool to win this race, as I said before, I never raced against him (Joe Shear) but I watched him a lot growing up and he was one helluva racer, it means a lot to me.” Press Release (05-4-09)
When the Joe Shear Classic was announced many fans, competitors, and sponsors from all over the United States have shared their thoughts on the late Joe Shear. Some are even participating in their unique way with the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment season opening event. As announced earlier, three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Darrell Waltrip will be sponsoring the Joe Shear Hard Charger Award. The driver who passes the most cars in the 136-lap feature will receive a bonus of $536. The fast qualifier will be given the opportunity to start last in the feature event and attempt to pass the most cars for the bonus. Track announcer Chris Clark said he always had to bring his tool box to victory lane to pry a comment from Joe Shear after he won a race. Many said he was soft spoken and left his talking on the track. Since his passing on March 9, 1998, many today still have a clear memory this legendary driver. To honor this legend, the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment will be hosting the "Joe Shear Classic" this Sunday, May 3rd at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI. Last year, Dells Raceway Park was the place where Donny Reuvers finally broke into the winner's circle at an American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event. Going into the 2009 season opener, he realizes the competition will be tough to make it easy for him to repeat. The Dundas, MN driver who finished second in points in each of the first two seasons in the ASAMT, held off a late charge from Steve Carlson for the win last year. He knows that repeating in the season opening event, the Race for the Gold Bronze Race 125-lap feature event on Saturday, April 25, will be a tough task. "Anytime you run good at a track, you hope to go back there and run well again," Reuvers stated. "It is to be hoped that we can go back there and run in the same position again. For many, it was an opportunity to shake down their super late models, try some different setups, and take some laps on the new Hoosier F-45 tire that the ASAMT will be competing on this season. Officials with the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and Hoosier Racing Tire Corporation have announced that the series will compete on the Hoosier F-45 tire this season. A tire that many ASAMT competitors used last season when they competed with the American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour event in Nashville, TN. Since the series inception in 2007, the series has competed on the Hoosier 3035 & 3045 tires at a majority of its events. Coming into this season, Tim Olson, ASAMT President and Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP were looking for a tire that could be used at more than one event. When asked which track they would like to have the event, it was with no hesitation both agreed that it should be held at Madison International Speedway, an ASA Member Track, as the track's season opening event on Sunday, May 3, 2009.
