Fox River Racing Club Late Model Red Race Preview (06-8-10)

On and off the track, Dave Eggert and his son, Kevin, are partners. Owning and operating Sapphires Gentlemen's Club in Menasha keeps them plenty busy on a daily basis. But on Thursday nights, they take time away from the business to participate in the Fox River Racing Club's program at Wisconsin International Raceway in Buchanan, where Kevin is an up-and-coming late model stock car driver. The "Thanks dad" sticker on the back of his No. 98 Ford Fusion tells a lot of their special relationship, which began in the late 1990s on dirt tracks, through Dave's battle with a rare form of cancer last year and culminated with Kevin winning two of the last three features last season — including the Blue Race — to earn FRRC rookie of the year honors after finishing 11th in points. Motor sports has been one of the fastest growing sports over the last several years. Fans flock to see their favorite drivers compete at high speeds running side by side, lap by lap. But what is it that makes this sport continue to grow and gain diehard fans? The answer is simple: Sponsorship and Marketing. Sports, especially stock car racing, have not always been considered a traditional means for companies to market their products and services. However all of that has changed as organizations have found ways to partner with drivers, teams, and racing organizations to create winning combinations for all of those involved. They both provide the same action, suspense, drama, and sometimes comedy.  They both have stars showing off their talents in front of you.  But there is a difference, one is on a large screen in a dark room and the other is live and outdoors with no need for 3-D glasses or the best in stereo sound.
