When they used to race against each other on state short tracks like Wisconsin International Raceway and Slinger Speedway, Matt Kenseth and Robbie Reiser were intense rivals and not the best of friends because both of them were so competitive and so driven to win. On a smaller scale, the same could probably be said about Jeff Van Oudenhoven and Terry Korth. And, after 17 years in the sport, Van Oudenhoven, 40, admits that retiring has crossed his mind. Yeah, it has, but when you can win every week, it's hard to get that out of your blood. You just don't walk away from this sport. It takes a lot of effort from me and the team and we do a lot of marketing and keep our sponsors happy. Appleton Post Crescent (05-23-10)

Touring Racing
Motor sports has been one of the fastest growing sports over the last several years. Fans flock to see their favorite drivers compete at high speeds running side by side, lap by lap. But what is it that makes this sport continue to grow and gain diehard fans? The answer is simple: Sponsorship and Marketing. Sports, especially stock car racing, have not always been considered a traditional means for companies to market their products and services. However all of that has changed as organizations have found ways to partner with drivers, teams, and racing organizations to create winning combinations for all of those involved. Both start the same way, you walk up and pay an admission fee, get handed a ticket, then go find a seat. The only thing is that one of the places, you find a seat in a theatre and the other is a seat that surrounds a racetrack. They both provide the same action, suspense, drama, and sometimes comedy. They both have stars showing off their talents in front of you. But there is a difference, one is on a large screen in a dark room and the other is live and outdoors with no need for 3-D glasses or the best in stereo sound. Press Release (05-26-10)

The ASA Midwest Tour continued that momentum as they entered the 2010 season with 42 cars at their season opener event at the Joe Shear Classic at Madison International Speedway on May 2nd. We have averaged a little over 40 cars at each event in the first three seasons and had 42 at our fourth season opener a few weeks ago," Tim Olson, ASAMT President said. "A lot of that is due to having common rules with many of the tracks in the Midwest which makes it real easy for the local drivers to come and compete with us. Short track racing doesn't get the attention like other sports and entertainment venues near it. Yet, it provides something unique and special that, like other sports fans will say, only can be felt and described if a fan was there in person rather than sitting at home on the couch. Because none of that will generate the natural atmosphere you will find when you see an event live and in person at your local short track. Press Release (03-27-10)
