Luxemburg Speedway track manager Rick Goral has announced the 2010 season awards banquet will be held Saturday January 29 at Beverly Gardens in Denmark. Track champions who will be honored include Green Bay’s Jared Siefert (IMCA modified), Union’s Troy Muench (IMCA stock car), Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz (IMCA northern sportmod), Luxemburg’s Chad Kaminski (IMCA hobby stock) and Abrams’ Jessi Ness (sport fours). The regionally popular grand national sportsman division will race weekly at 141 Speedway on Saturday nights in 2011. The class ran on a semi-regular basis in 2010 at the track's inaugural season as a high banked, third-mile clay oval. "There are plenty of these cars around," said track promoter Bruce Conard. "More importantly we've got a bunch of local guys who's still got their Mid American sportsman or super stocks laying around and they plan on converting them over to dirt. 141 Speedway track officials have announced the 2010 awards banquet will be held at the luxurious Fox Hill Resort in Mishicot Saturday, January 22. All track champions will be provided a free room that night courtesy of 141 Speedway. Drivers need to confirm with the track if they plan on attending. A special room rate of $49 is being offered. The awards ceremony took place at the Ladder House Sports Bar & Grill with a total of 162 guests on hand. The top-5 in each division and the Rookies of the Year received awards. More than 300 drivers, crew members and track officials took part in NEW DIRT’s 2010 awards banquet held at Romy’s Nitingale in Black Creek, honoring Seymour Speedway’s track champions. Among those honored was Seymour’s Shawn “Lunchbox” Wagner, who dominated the IMCA stock car class with eight feature wins and a second straight track title. (10-21-10) UPDATE: Wisconsin’s newest dirt track 141 Speedway in Francis Creek will switch back to Saturday nights for it’s weekly racing program in 2011. The 2011 season will kick off with the first ever Polar Bear Plunge Saturday night April 2. There will be an open practice session on Friday night, April 1. With that, the program will not follow any sanctioning body this season. “We drove south to meet with Brett (Root) two weeks ago about sanctioning on a Saturday,” said track promoter Bruce Conard. “After a lengthly discussion we shook hands and Brett told us we’d get the sanctioning. We drove back to Manitowoc thinking it was a done deal.” Less than 48 hours later, Root flip-flopped and called Conard’s telling them he changed his mind and IMCA would not be allowing the sanction. Custom Windows Plus team members in all divisions recently wrapped up very successful 2010 campaigns while racing throughout northeast Wisconsin ovals. Of all the drivers who faced perhaps the most adversity, “Dancin Lance” Arneson felt it the most. The Oconto Fall’s IMCA modified driver totaled his race car in a controversial wreck during the feature at Seymour Speedway. Down but not out, Arneson, with some help from CWP and other sponsors, was able to scrape together enough funds to finish the year out. Arneson capped off his roller coaster year with a win at the Indian Summer Classic at Langlade County Speedway in Antigo. “We’re very optimistic about 2011 as we’ve got this car figured out,” said Arneson. Luxemburg Speedway track officials are happy to announce that the track’s third-mile, clay oval located at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds is receiving a new surface that is long overdue. During this week Kewaunee County crews will add more than 2000 yards of red clay that will help reshape the racing surface. “We were in “The biggest thing is we’re getting this laid down before the frost settles in,” said Goral. The last time the racing surface got fresh clay was in 2003, when more than 7000 yards of clay was added, which at the time increased the banking significantly. Press Release (09-30-10)

Shawano’s Joe “The Show” Reuter led all 20 laps and survived two caution periods to win his first career 30 lap late model feature on night number two of the Fall Classic at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. A total of 267 cars took part in the two day show. The field of drivers included 19 late models, 37 modifieds, 35 stock cars, 33 street stocks, 39 grand nationals, 26 sportmods, 32 hobby stocks and 46 sport fours. Algoma’s Todd “Felix” Dart caught and passed Two Rivers Kyle Kudick for the lead with four laps remaining and rode the high side to victory in the 30 lap modified feature. Press Release (09-26-10)

46 teams representing eight different divisions took part in a “test and tune” session at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek this afternoon. Most of them are preparing for the Chilton Fall Classic which will be held at the high-banked, third-mile clay oval Friday and Saturday September 24 and 25. New Franken’s Shawn Kilgore stole the show, passing Pulaski’s Jason Czarapata on lap 12 and went on the win the caution free, season ending, modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Saturday night. Kilgore also won the feature Friday night as well. 2010 IMCA Supernationals stock car champion Jeremy Christians of Horicon passed Gillett’s Kyle Frederick for the lead on lap 13 and fought off a fast closing Shawn Wagner of Seymour in the waning laps to win the 25 lap stock car feature. The 7th annual two day Fall Classic presented by Tisler Salvage is slated for Friday September 17 and Saturday September 18 at Luxemburg Speedway. Rain showers followed by a steady drizzle late into the afternoon Saturday forced postponement of the second day of the Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway Fall Classic. With Friday night’s qualifiers in the books, promoter Bryan “Woody” Wodack announced that the Classic’s finals would be run this Wednesday night, September 15th. The evening will kick off with Last Chance Qualifiers for the Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern Sport Mods, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and 4 cylinders, followed by the event’s feature races. Bonduel’s AJ Diemel passed New London’s Justin Ritchie for the lead on lap 11 and went on to win the caution free, 30 lap late model feature at Seymour Speedway Sunday night. The show was the final one for the 2010 season. Hometown ace Brian Mullen appeared to be a shoe in to win the 20 lap IMCA modified feature, having drawn the pole. But 20-year old Marcus Yarie of Wausau had other plans. The duo swapped the lead several times throughout the contest, with Yarie chasing the high groove and Mullen hugging to bottom line. Yarie wound up victorious, with the former track champion settling for runnerup pay. New London’s Julie Wedelstadt, Pulaski’s Jason Czarapata and Seymour’s Jerry Wilinski rounded out the top five. The racing program at Shawano Speedway during the Shawano County Fair marked “Championship Night.” Ron Berna won the WISSOTA Late Model championship, while Dave Fieber won his first FASTRAK Late Model championship at the Speedway. Jerry Wilinski won his first IMCA Modified track championship, with Shawn Wagner also winning his first IMCA Stock Car track title. Jay Matthias would capture his first ever career title winning the IMCA Modified Crown. The Fastrak Late Models will make their first appearance of the season at Prestige Yacht Coatings ThunderHill Raceway. Head lining the 2-day Fall Classic on September 10 &11. The Fastrak Late Models will kick-off their 2010 Fastrak Great Lakes Region Series. ThunderHill will be their first night of the series with the road to the Quarter Million dollar point fund. Appleton’s Paul Parker dodged two caution periods and led every lap en route to capture the 25 lap, WDLMA late model feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. Little Suamico’s Sean Jerovetz swapped the lead with Two Rivers’ Kyle Kudick and fended off Kudick to win the caution free, 20 lap IMCA modified feature. This Saturday September 4, the IMCA Stock Car class will feature Greg Gretz vs. Charlie Kroll and Ford vs. Chevy in a championship that most likely will come down to the final lap. The two title contenders came into last weeks feature tied for the lead. Several tight points chases should make the Tri County Heating championship night something special at Luxemburg Speedway Friday, September 3.Green Bay native Jared Siefert currently holds a six point lead over De Pere’s Jay Matthias in the Budweiser IMCA modified division. Luxemburg’s Benji LaCrosse charged from row five and passed Seymour’s Jamie Schmidt for the lead with two laps remaining to win the 20 lap IMCA modified feature at Seymour Speedway Sunday night. With the win LaCrosse successfully defended his division title. Pulaski’s Devin Snellenberger passed Gillett’s Kyle Frederick with three laps to go to win his first 20 lap IMCA stock car feature of the season. The IMCA Stock Car title is completely up for grabs as Forestville’s Charlie Kroll and Kewaunee’s Greg Gretz are currently tied for points lead. With only 2 points nights remaining, the championship could come down to the final lap of the season. Luxemburg’s Dave DeGrave picked up with in the Stock Car class, this was his second career stock car win, but first at ThunderHill. Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger scored a thrilling last lap pass on Seymour’s Shawn Wagner to capture the 20 lap IMCA stock car feature at Seymour Speedway. The win was Snellenberger’s 21st on area ovals this season. By virtue of his second place finish, Wagner earned enough points to secure the IMCA stock car points championship. Seymour’s Jerry Wilinski won his first, caution free, 20 lap IMCA modified feature. With three weeks of racing remaining at Shawano Speedway Doug Blashe won the WISSOTA Late Model feature, while A.J. Diemel won the FASTRAK Late Model feature. The IMCA Modified feature was won by Eric Scribner, with the IMCA Stock Car feature going to Rod Snellenberger. Chad Guyette won the IMCA Northern SportMod feature. Eric Scribner immediately pulled away from the field in the IMCA Modified feature until a couple of cautions on laps four and five slowed the action. Scribner continued to lead on the restart with Brandon Czarapata, Jerry Wilinski, Marcus Yarie and Lance Arneson following. Scribner pulled out to a slight lead as Czarapata also pulled away slightly from Wilinski. Press Release (08-22-10)

ABC’s popular “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” television show is teaming up with 141 Speedway drivers Tim Czarnecki of Denmark and Chad Kaminski of Luxemburg for their special event on Friday, August 13th at Wisconsin’s newest third-mile, clay oval presented by Pro Label. More than two dozen employees with the show, along with nearly 200 volunteers associated with the home rebuilding project will be in attendance at the special event, which will be highlighted by fan and driver appreciation night with free beer and a corn roast following the races. Seymour’s Jamie Schmidt dodged a 10 car pileup and passed Chris Engels of Green Bay on lap six to collect the 20 lap IMCA modified feature at Seymour Speedway Sunday night. That massive 10 car pileup ensued on a lap three restart of the IMCA mod feature, which included the top two point men heading into the night: Points leader Benji LaCrosse of Luxemburg and Seymour’s Mike Mullen. the race was red flagged and a 30 minute delay ensued as track crews worked to tear the battered race cars apart. Three features hit the record books before rain washed away the final two during the second annual Nathan Bouche Memorial at the Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay Saturday night. Just a few days after arguably the largest crowd in many years saw the World of Outlaws Late Models put on a show at the famed half mile it was back to normal. Local favorites were again center stage and exciting the fans. The Bud Lynn Memorial races would take place to remember a long time driver and good friend of the track. Fieber would be the car to watch though as he would reel in Swedberg and with five to go move past on the inside. Fieber would set his cruise control and drive away to the win. Nathan son of veteran racer Tony Bouche passed away in a farm accident a little more than 5 years ago. So this is a night to pay tribute to a life that was taken to soon. Billy Moyer was perfect in Wednesday night’s blockbuster World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Shawano Speedway. Twenty-one years after falling short of victory in the national tour’s only previous appearance at the half-mile fairgrounds oval, the three-time WoO LMS champion from Batesville, Ark., capped a sweep of the evening’s action with a convincing win in the 50-lap A-Main that was run before a capacity crowd. In front of a capacity crowd, Jason Czarapata pulled off the upset win in the IMCA Modified feature as part of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series show at Shawano Speedway. There were 36 IMCA Modified drivers on hand, including some of the best drivers in Wisconsin, if not the whole country. Czarapata flew around the outside of Mullen on the restart, and pulled out to a small advantage as Mullen and LaCrosse battled for second. As the laps dwindled, Czarapata pulled away from Mullen while LaCrosse faded to fourth with Mike Mullen grabbing the third spot. Zdroik recovered to move into fifth place. The careers of Scott and Chris Wimmer have taken some similar paths. Both started out by racing the short tracks in Wisconsin and competed in the well-known ASA National Tour. Scott went on to some success in the higher level of racing including a third place finish in the 2004 Daytona 500. Chris is seeing that success now as he finished second in points this past season in the ASA Midwest Tour. The success that the two brothers found behind the wheel would follow them in their other business ventures in auto racing. A lot of that success comes from their family's involvement in the sport. This past year, the Wimmer family took on a new challenge with the support of the American Speed Association. Scott along with his father Ron, took on a new challenge as they bought State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI. Without hesitation, they joined the ASA Member Track program. Press Release (11-24-10)

In partnership with Argonne National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy, Circle Track Magazine has built the first environmentally responsible oval track race car. Dubbed Project G.R.E.E.N. (Green Racing Experimental Engine Narrative), its journey to reality has been documented in the magazine's recent issues. Over 250 campers arrived at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds on Monday to make it their home for the next seven days. The campers will be taking part in the 41st Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend which is scheduled to start this Thursday at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI. "Over the next 72 hours, the grounds will fill up with campers, tents and motorhomes," Dave Noelke, Oktoberfest Campground Mayor said. Terry Patnode edged Tommy Hromadka in a photo-finish to win the 30-lap super late model semi-feature while Mike Egan, Jerry Eckhardt, and Brad Dahmer followed in third through fifth place respectively. The four days that will make up the 41st Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will be busy as Fest officials have announced that 20 different divisions will be competing this year. One of those divisions is a new event in honor of the late John McKarns. The JMCK 63 will take place on Sunday, October 10th. The event will use Big-8 Series style rules and its an invitational featuring past Big-8 Series winners. The 63-lap event will run in three 21-lap segments, just like the Dick Trickle 99 event. A format that McKarns loved when he introduced it to Oktoberfest in 2007. The only difference is that the first segment will be lined up by a draw rather than qualifying. The second and third segments will be lined up using the same format as the Dick Trickle 99. The second segment will line up with a field inversion and the third with a wheel spin or dice roll. After battling illness all week, Lowell Bennett slipped past Jamie Wallace in the final turn of the last lap to edge Wallace by a half car-length at the finish line to win the Leroy Meats of Horicon 60-lap super late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. “I’ve been under the weather pretty bad the last week, “ a noticeably winded Bennett stated from victory lane, “Last night, I started coughing up blood and ended up in the emergency room overnight and they told me I had pneumonia. Well John Wood did it again, winning his fourth consecutive ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour race at Dells Raceway Park last Saturday night. Nine trucks took to the track for the 35 lap feature event with Todd Lockington and Butch Mierendorf leading the field to the green. Jerry Wood set fast time with at 13.992, being the only driver to crack into the 19-second bracket. Tom McClintock and John Wood rounded out the top three in qualifying. Former ASA star, Scott Hansen will be co-hosting the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net broadcast of the "Dixieland 150" on Fox Sports North and Fox Sports Wisconsin this Saturday, August 21st. Steve Apel won the Pomp’s Tire Fan Appreciation 65 Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway in a wild finish after tangling with Dennis Prunty while they raced to the checkered flag, triggering a mulit-car incident that left the finish in doubt until officials sorted out the melee. “That’s just racing, that’s what I’ve been told by him (Prunty),” Apel stated from victory lane, celebrating a win that appeared even more improbable after breaking a rocker arm in practice that resulted in the team totally rebuilding the engine before qualifying. “I don’t know (about the final lap),” Apel continued, “That last restart was tough, he got me on the inside and then I got back on the inside of him…that’s just racing I guess.” Press Release (08-23-10)
Coatsville, Indiana’s Mike Larrison charged to his first series win in the lightening-quick 60-lap Must See Racing Extreme Sprint Series main event Saturday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. Jason Cox captured the win in the Must See Racing Extreme Sprint Series B Main over Jason Blonde as victories in the heat races were picked up by Kyle Flint, Hank Lower, and Troy DeCaire. Howie Lettow, a respected and successful crew chief in the old ASA National Tour, passed away Thursday after a valiant battle with cancer. Mike Egan turned back a strong late race challenge from Brad Mueller to capture his first super late model feature victory in five years in the 60-lap second round of the KFC/Pepsi Challenge Series Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. “Towards the end there, the car was getting looser and looser and I tell you, we ran it into the corners so hard I couldn’t believe it stuck and somehow I got ahead,” Egan stated from victory lane, “My spotter told me I really had to pedal because (Mueller) was coming and I was giving it all I had, I didn’t have anything left.” Press Release (08-17-10)

Recent news reports are stating that viewership on televised race events are down 29% among the 18-34 audience. This is an audience that auto racing needs as it transitions from one generation to the next. Short track racing especially needs this generation of fans and competitors as well. "We should not ignore this demographic, we need them to be involved as a fan, competitor or crew member," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "Our ASA Member Tracks and sanctioned series have many opportunities for that 18-34 age group. In fact, we have opportunities for those under the age of 18 with entry-level racing to being on a pit crew and earning a scholarship to Ohio Technical College. They both love racing and both spend countless hours working in their shops building some of the best chassis in the region and the nation. You may have noticed when next year's ASA Midwest Tour schedule was announced recently, it did not contain a summer date at Madison International Speedway, a race that traditionally brought Matt Kenseth - and Sprint Cup friends - back to one of his home tracks. Whether such a race happens, or whether the 2003 NASCAR champion from Cambridge races at any of the short tracks in his home state, remains to be seen. The American Speed Association, Dells Raceway Park and Ford Racing recently teamed up to feature short track racing to Wisconsin Collegiate DECA and Skills USA college students. The seminars took place at their respective Fall Leadership Conferences on Thursday, October 22 at the Hotel Sierra in Green Bay, WI. Joe Graziano, co-owner of Dells Raceway Park an ASA Member Track in Wisconsin Dells, WI, along with Kevin Ramsell, ASA's Director Public Relations, met with Collegiate DECA students to talk about the business of operating a short track. Both shared how their careers grew to where they are now through short track racing. Graziano talked extensively about what he and his fellow co-owner Lance Fielitz have done to make Dells Raceway Park one of the more entertaining racing facilities in the Midwest. While Ramsell talked about how ASA is working on branding itself more as a sanctioning body in short track racing and helping short tracks get more noticed as a place for entertainment for about the same price as going to a movie. Rick Corso took the early lead, but it was not long before Bobby Wilberg, in a brand new Lefthander Chassis, assumed the lead, and eventually the victory. Jerry Wood became the first ever ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour Champion, eleven points ahead of his brother John Wood. After starting in the fourth position, Dan Fredrickson took the lead from pole sitter, Nick Panitzke by lap 15 of the 41st annual 100 lap Oktoberfest event. Fredrickson never looked back, dominating the 30-car field all the way to the checkered flag. This was Fredrickson's third Oktoberfest Championship out of the past four years. Eighteen Sportsman drivers were on hand for the "Thunder Car Nationals" Championship event for the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour on Saturday night at Elko Speedway. Local driver, Brent Kane took his first ever ASAMST victory, while Chris Marek was crowned the first ever ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour Champion. With only five laps to go, the #15 of Anderson shot to the high side of Reuvers and took over the second spot as Marek followed suit. For most drivers in the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net, the 2010 racing season kicked off on May 2nd at Madison International Speedway. But for some, including the top-two battling for the 2010 championship, it started much earlier and in another country. For the first time in history, the American Speed Association traveled across continents to Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, Free State, South Africa on January 31st, 2010 for the ASA Transcontinental Series Free State 500. Watertown Wis., doesn't align with any of the major freeways in the Badger State. Jay Kalbus, a native of the city just east of the state capital, didn't need rush hour on I-94 to get that traffic jam experience. Kalbus weaved in and out of traffic in a frantic effort to claim his second American Speed Association Midwest Sportsman Tour feature event of 2010 Saturday night at Dells Raceway Park. Lawver was next to cross the line after Kalbus and was awarded second spot. Jason Thoma found a clear lane to the start/finish line and finished third. Chris Marek was victorious in a wild, three-wide finish to the ASA Midwest Tour Sportsman event at Elko Speedway. The main event started out with local driver Scott King setting the pace from the pole position over outside front-row starter, Mike Homan. The caution flew on lap eight, as series point leader, Jay Kalbus, cut down a tire and went into the turn one wall. Kalbus would head pit side and return to action a lap down. "I always knew that I wanted to be a race car driver." These were the words of driver, Skylar Holzhausen from LaCrosse, WI. Skylar grew up in central Wisconsin spending his summers watching his dad Steve race at venues such Dells Raceway Park, LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway, and Marshfield Motor Speedway. It is the last big racing weekend of the 2010 season in the Midwest. It is also the place where race fans from all across the country will gather for four days of racing excitement and fun. The 41st Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will take place on Oktober 7,8,9,10 at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI. The top 14 qualifiers in the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour made it into the "Wisconsin Dells 35" lap feature on qualifying time at Dells Raceway Park last Saturday night, August 14th. Jay Kalbus topped the field with a qualifying time of 14.467 followed by Chris Marek and Daron Fish from Wisconsin Dells. A total of 21 sportsman drivers qualified for and started the event. Chris Marek was able to take advantage of the last and final restart as he pased Null on the outside for the win. Jay Kalbus, Doug Bennett, and Jason Thoma rounded out the top five. Marek's victory puts him a mere two points ahead of Jay Kalbus in the current point standings. Jason Thoma is in third, 98 points behind Marek. Press Release (08-18-10)

Mother Nature has won again at Madison International Speedway as a forecast for heavy rains later in the day and possible severe weather during the evening forced management to make a proactive decision and cancel all racing for tonight. With the rainout tonight, MIS has only two more weekly point racing dates on the schedule for 2010. Next Friday night will feature all five weekly divisions before heading into the final night on August 27th for Season Championship Night feauring double features in all divisions. Plans are being finalized for the 2010 version of the MIS Fall Classic that will take place on Friday, September 24th and Saturday, September 25th. Domnyck Nienhaus was definitely in his element early Thursday evening. Surrounded by a mix of limited late model cars and "big wheels" on the track of the Wisconsin International Raceway, the 4-year old Nienhaus followed his stepfather, David Van Groll, and eagerly crawled into the car of limited late model driver Andy Kluck for pictures and a lap around the track. But it is the FRRC4Kids program that has seen a substantial rise in interest from among the very youngest of the area's racing fans. "We started small and we've basically grown from the first year," FRRC secretary Clint Smith said. "We had 75 kids in the kids club and we've had consistently over 250 kids now. It was a special night at Dells Raceway Park, as $45,000 worth of scholarships were awarded to students through American Speed Association and Ohio Technical College. In the Late Model division, Davy Pennel was fastest on track during qualifying with a time of 14.289 seconds. During the Assembly Products, Dash for the Cash, Rich Schumann Jr finally got the win that he has been looking for. Lowell Bennett prevailed in an intense battle with Steve Apel and drove away to his fifth victory of the season in the 60-lap super late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. “I tell you what, he (Apel) was really strong, “Bennett described racing with Apel for the lead, “I saw him get loose a couple times and that’s how I got in there on the inside of him. On a picture-perfect night for racing, Scott Broughton picked up the win in the 40 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models for the third time in 2010. Saturday Night was Original Wisconsin Duck Night at Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Sanctioned Track. The Dells weekly divisions were joined on track by the Central States Region Super Cup series. A caution late in the race, moved the field back together, and after the restart Bernhagen gave Jankowski a run for his money. Side by side they battled for the lead but it was Jankowski in front when the checkered flag flew. This was the fourth feature win for Corey Jankowski this season. The American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net made their eighth stop of the season at Dells Raceway Park tonight. A track known for its nose-to-tail racing was home to a new winner for the 2010 season. Tim Schendel took home his first victory in 2010. His last victory was in 2008 at Marshfield Speedway, which the ASAMT heads to next weekend. Schendel was able to stretch out his lead to five car lengths.
