With a half of a straight away lead more than halfway through the Schmitty’s Tickets Super Late Model feature Thursday night, Tim Rothe was in complete control. Then the cautions came – and with them – the competition. With five laps remaining Baldry dived to the inside entering turn three, but his bid was denied as Rothe slammed the door shut. Unable to find a way around, Baldry was forced to settle for second. Piontek and Calmes raced side-by-side over the final nine laps with Piontek securing third at the line. Mike Gardner rounded out the top five. Press Release (07-24-11)

Thursday night didn't start out well for Jeff Van Oudenhoven. After a flat tire in qualifying, the former two-time Fox River Racing Club champion qualified eighth and missed the dash by two spots. That didn't really matter because after winning the feature the week before, he had to start in the mandatory 14th spot anyways. With that fourth win, Van Oudenhoven is embarking on some hallowed ground. According to the FRRC archives, which are sketchy at best, because only features from 1992 to 2003 are listed, the only drivers to win four late model features in a row are present NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Matt Kenseth during his championship year of 1995 and Terry Baldry en route to the title in 2002. Mike Meyerhofer Jr. is glad the Fox River Racing Club moved the limited late model feature before the late model main in Thursday's program at Wisconsin International Raceway. Because it did, it at least gives the 29-year-old Hilbert driver, originally from Kaukauna, a much-needed break. Otherwise, he would have to jump out of his limited and into his figure-eight, which were the last two races of the night. He also won the figure-eight feature that night, and has since won one more in each division to firmly entrench himself in the points division battles in each class. Appleton Post Crescent (07-11-11)
Erasing his late race demons from a year ago, Kyle Busch muscled past Dave Feiler following a restart with 26 laps to go and drove to his first victory in the Miller Lite Nationals 200-lap super late model main event Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway. “The restarts were tricky and I didn’t know whether I wanted the bottom or the top as neither one of them was working for me for the first two laps but then my car would really come in,” Busch stated from victory lane after playing cat-and-mouse games with Feiler on several late race restarts before sweeping into the lead for good as racing resumed on lap 174.

During his limited late model racing career, Brandon Conrad has been involved in his share of fender benders, but the lick he took Thursday night during Fox River Racing Club qualifying at Wisconsin International Raceway in Buchanan was by far the hardest he ever took. Conrad was taken to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah, where he was treated and released. He said he banged up his right arm and shoulder and had a stiff neck and upper back from the impact. "It's pretty much junk," Conrad said. "It needs a new front stub and the rear end needs to be straightened and gone over. The suspension and steering rack were bent, but, hopefully, the motor's good. It was still running wide open for a while after the hit. It slid ahead four inches and slammed into the steering rack." Appleton Post Crescent (06-14-11)

A few weeks ago, Mike Mikuly did something he has not done in a while, he went to a movie. After paying for admission and concession foods, he realized something. His track, Illiana Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Schererville, IN, provides an average family with a more affordable alternative when it comes to spending their entertainment dollar. "It is less expensive than seeing a movie," Mikuly, Illiana Promoter said. "I had not been to a movie in a long time, and it was shocking as I went up to pay my admission, it was $28. $14 a person. Then I paid an additional $21.50 in concessions. It got me to think about venue, which is the speedway. For a lower admission price, we can offer up to 5-6 total hours of entertainment (practice, qualifying and racing) that is live. When I look at our concessions, a fan can get a full meal for about what it costs for popcorn in the movie theatre." Press Release (03-9-11)

Not a bad way to start his first season with the ASA Midwest Tour. With the invert, McGrath started in the ninth position. Unfortunately he was only able to complete 125 of the 136 laps in 19th spot, but there was no question that he was going to be a contender for the Rookie of the Year. Press Release (03-9-11)
