A rules meeting was held in Stoughton WI to discuss the standardization
of Super Late Model rules in the WI,IL,MN,IN, area. With great success we where
represented by 9 tracks, 1 series, and 1 racing club. I can't express enough how
nice it was to see everyone working together to get our rules standardized across
the Midwest.
I was able to take notes on specific subjects and now send everyone the results.
The biggest advancement was setting up a way for all of the tracks to communicate.
Whether it be for schedules, schedule changes, cancellations, Rule Infractions,
or any type of information that needs to be relayed. Tim Olson from I-94 has a
new website called, www.autoracingtracks.com and he will be constructing a forum
that only the tracks can post in but the public can view.
In most cases, when a specific track has a serious rule infraction by a driver,
he attempts to race at another track until he is caught there. Now, each track
can post on the forum weekly whenever they have any rule infraction committed
by a driver, stating their name, infraction, the track involved, and the penalty.
This will give a wake up call to incidents that go unknown throughout the state.
Thanks again to everyone who participated and I look forward to working with all
of you in the future. The topics below are in order and written as closely as
discussed. Please feel free to share proper wording for rules if needed. All tracks
will be writing the same rules based off of the agreed information below.
Tech Inspections-
1. Ace Motors are showing up with Honda Rod Journals along with 9 to 1's we have
built a tool that can be inserted through the inspection hole in the oil pan to
measure the size of the Rod Journals. The price for the tool is around $100.
2. Crank Triggers- This is not allowed and is totally illegal! All tracks must
express in their rules that MSD ignition or stock type ignition's are the only
ones allowed.
3. Exhaust Systems- Due to ordinances throughout the country all exhaust systems
must exit underneath the car, no exceptions. No exhaust shall exit through the
passenger doors. All exhaust systems must have mufflers that are not tampered
with.
4. Cambered Rear Ends- Not allowed! Make sure you have the proper tools to check
and it should be plus or minus one degree.
5. Brakes- Some tracks allow 6 piston and some allow 4. We all agreed that we
would allow up to 6 piston calipers but there must be a $400 retail cap on the
cost of the calipers. The retail cost can be found in any parts catalogue. ROTORS-
Floating rotors will be allowed by all tracks!
6. Safety- NO ALUMINUM STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS! There will not be any aluminum structural
parts allowed! Bumper to Bumper, Door to Door, The only exceptions will be bolt
on cross bars in the engine compartment. No other part of the chassis structure
will be aluminum. Everything must be Steel and per your thickness requirements.

7. Tires- Came to an agreement on how to properly police tire softness consistency.
All cars can be checked after qualifying and an average number will be assumed.
Anyone out side of that average may be considered for inspection. It will be up
to the track if they have their own tire impound. Important! All tracks agreed
that they will allow visiting stamped tires on their first visit.
8. Bodies- ABC Reccomended was the agreed rule. Corey Schultz from Five Star was
in attendance to properly explain the ABC rules and costs. We were all in agreement
that they older bodies are phazing themselves out and that the ABC has a true
aero advantage. Corey is working on a standardized weight penalty for the future
and will relay that info to us asap.
9. ACE Head program- Lumpy went through the entire program start to finish and
discussed the teching issues. All tracks are urged to pull the heads that are
assigned to them at years end. Each head is stamped with a serial number that
is assigned to a specific driver and track. When racing is complete the track
will require that those heads be sent out and inspected. Point fund money will
be withheld based on results. Shipping costs are paid for by Brodix when the heads
are purchased.
10. Carbs- 390 carbs are being phazed out and it was agreed that the 4412 will
be a carb of choice. Exception- A few tracks are still utilizing the 390 but will
give large weight breaks for the use of a 2brl.
11. Weights- The following weights were agreed on by all. Due to the large differences
in HP ratings the following weights were agreed on.
58/42 Left to right bias all tracks all series
Ace Roller 4412- 2750
9to1 4412- 2850
Concept 750- 2875
Schwanke Engine- This engine will be allowed and is in the test phaze at Slinger,
LGR, MIS, and Mars. This engine is a $12,500 525 hp package with a one year warranty.
12. Clutches- 4.5 or larger is the agreed rule. No carbon fiber or composite material.
After long converation with QuarterMaster it was determined that the 4.5 clutch
is seldomly sold due to the 5.5 being more advanced and better in performance
and cheaper in cost. Some drivers still have a 4.5 and the decision was to not
make them spend the large sum of money to buy new.
13. Perimeter Car- It was discussed that there are a hand full of fake perimeter
cars out there trying to get weight breaks. The following is the rule- "Perimeter
Chassis" Minimum 57" frame width, 3 parallel door bars on the right
side located above or outside the frame rail. Centerline of rails must be within
1" of tire centerlines.
14. Concept Engine- Stop penalizing the Concept for its existence and institute
a CC Rule to abide by. Keep current rules the same on inspection but add the 187CC
rule to everyone's rule book. The Concept head can be CC'd without pulling the
head by jacking the car up at inspection. Chrysler CC- 198, and Ford CC- 197
15. Engines- NO 18 deg engines allowed. 9to1 is 23deg plus or minus 2deg period
Engines Costs- This was discussed heavily amongst the group and I am sure will
be a major factor in our meetings to come. This will be the most important factor
in our future of SLM racing.
Thank you to all for attending the meeting!
Sincerely,
Steve Einhaus
