40 LAP FEATURE WINS TO SAND AND NOVAK AT 141
June 11, 2005 (Francis Creek, WI)
Josh Sand and Jason Novak shared the spotlight with 40 lap feature wins Saturday night to highlight action at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.
Sand in the Super Stocks and Novak in the Mini-Stocks both carded their first feature wins of the season. Joining them in victory lane on the night were Kraig Koehler in the Hobby Stocks, Hank Horn Jr in the Sport 4s and Jason Yaeger in the visiting Sport Truck class.
In the Super Stocks, Sand used a restart on the 29th lap to grab the lead from Kevin Charles. The caution had flown when leader Tim Conard lost the handle in the second turn coming out of a prior caution, handing the lead to Charles. >From that point, Sand powered away to the checker with the final 11 laps running caution free.
With the win, Sand took over the point lead from Don Wood, an early challenger who dropped from the feature near the event's mid-point.
Lapped traffic proved to be a factor in the Mini-Stock headliner. John Senkbeil took the lead at the drop of the green. Fast qualifier Troy Selner worked his way quickly through the field to take second on the 6th lap with Novak in tow. A caution on the 14th lap set Selner up on the outside of Senkbeil, a spot he quickly parlayed into a pass for the lead.
With the extended laps, the leaders found themselves working lappers with 10 to go. On the 34th lap, Selner was bottled up and contacted in traffic, allowing Novak to slip around him into the lead. Selner dropped shortly after that in a cloud of smoke. Senkbeil stayed close, but it was Novak by a car length at the checker.
Koehler, the 2004 Sport 4 champ, passed rookie Tyler Bauknecht on the 16th lap en route to his first career win in the Hobby Stocks. Bauknecht held off veteran Peter Kumbalek for a career best 2nd place finish.
With the Mid-Am division off for the night, the Wisconsin Sport Trucks paid their first visit of the 2005 season to the Speedway. Yaeger passed Jeff VanHandel on the 13th lap, then built a large enough cushion to withstand a late charge from Jeff Looker to garner the win. Peter Zarnoth, who started last in the 17 truck field after missing qualifying, raced through the pack to take third.
The closest finish of the night was recorded by the Sport 4 class. Kendra Cretton saw a huge lead washed away by caution, but managed to hold Horn, the point leader, at bay until the final corner. Horn had enough momentum on the high line to power around her and take the win away by less than a car length. Aaron Dalton, Gary Novitski and Rick Lorrigan completed the top five.
Saturday night June 18th, B&D Embroidery will host the show, featuring stock car rides for the kids and a special "Faster Pastor" race, featuring area clergy.
The 141 Speedway has stock car racing every Saturday night with time trials at 5:30pm and racing at 7pm. For more information see their website at 141Speedway.com.
