MIKE PANURE NAMED 141 SPEEDWAY RACE DIRECTOR
By Joe Verdegan
(Francis Creek, WI) - De Pere's Mike Panure has been named the new race director for 141 Speedway for the 2009 season.
A former racer, Panure brings with him a wealth of experience in the racing community, wearing many different hats. Panure's a former Fox River Racing Club President as well as a former race director at Shawano Speedway. In addition, Panure's most recent endeavors include serving as a technical inspector for the Mid American Stock Car Series and at Slinger Super Speedway. "We're not going to reinvent the wheel," said Panure. "We want to work to continue giving fans a fast-paced, exciting show. We'll work hard to build up the car counts in the respective divisions as well."
One of the reasons Panure decided to take the position was the big plans for the future at the 1/4 mile, paved oval. "They plan on expanding the track to a third-mile in 2010, which is exciting. In a time where the economy can be a bit tough for everybody, these guys are sticking some serious resources into making 141 Speedway a sparkling clean, top notch paved track in Wisconsin." Former racer Bruce Conard of Manitowoc has partnered up with promoters Donny Murray and Bruce Terp as an investor in the track. "We're all serious about making this one of the top asphalt tracks in the state," said Conard, a former champion at the track. "We're starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together, and hiring Mike was part of that. He brings with him some great references and tons of experience. We're looking forward to a great year."
The 2009 season at 141 Speedway will kick off on Saturday, May 16 with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. For more information on 141 Speedway contact Panure at 920 336 9099 or Conard at 920 905 1112.
