NEARLY 50 CARS SHAKE DOWN AT 141 SPEEDWAY’S PRACTICE SESSION

(Francis Creek, WI) January 22 - 48 drivers representing no less than seven different divisions took to 141 Speedway’s high-banked, third-mile clay oval here Wednesday as the track was the first in northeast Wisconsin to host any type of short track racing for the 2011 season.

Leading the way by division were 14 Modifieds, ten Sportmods, seven sport fours, five late models, five stock cars, five street stocks, one grand national sportsman and one hobby stock.

The track held up surprisingly well for early Spring in northeast Wisconsin, with just a few small ripples in the corners. “For this early in the year this is in pretty good shape,” said 63-year old Pete Parker, Wisconsin’s winningest dirt late model driver with more than 450 career feature wins under his belt.

Along the many drivers taking part in the practice session was rookie Jessi Ness of Abrams. Ness, a former sport four champion at Luxemburg Speedway, was wheeling a Sportmod for the first time. “It’s a lot different than the 4 cylinder because all the weight shifts over to the right when you throw it into the corners,” said Ness. Another rookie in the division was second-generation driver Dakota Geiger of Whitelaw. Geiger’s dad, Frank, races both a modified and a late model.

Other 141 practice day notes......Pete Parker shared the driver’s seat with his son Paul Parker throughout the day. Glenbeulah’s Tim Buhler showed up with a pair of WDLMA late models – one with a gas carb and one with an alcohol carb. Stockbridge’s Adam Broehm was the first driver to take to the track as he began packing the track with his number 3 racer. Veteran modified racer RM Van Pay has teamed up with his brother Steve Van Pay after Steve having been away from the sport four several years. Defending Modified track champion Jared Siefert is hoping for a rainout Saturday. “I’ve been too busy with my Snap On Tools route and haven’t had time to finish my car,” said Siefert. Jared says his car will be ready by April 23. Both WFRV TV 5’s Ryan Popkey and WLUK Fox 11’s Paige Pearson were on hand covering the practice session.
