May 21, 2004; Antigo, Wisconsin; After two cancellations, the Langlade County Speedway held its 2004 season opener on Friday night. A large crowd, and a filled pit area battled the cold weather to witness some great racing action. The new clay on the racing surface provided for a smooth and very fast track. Feature winners included Gordie Seegert Jr. in the WISSOTA Late Models, Wade Schutt in the IMCA Modifieds, Shannon Volkman in the IMCA Stock Cars, Gary Kasperek in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, and finally, Sean Thayer in the Truck division.
The WISSOTA Late Model feature seen Terry Casey jump to the lead with Nick Anvelink second and Doug Blashe third. Todd Flannery would soon take over the third position when Blashe would spin, bringing out the first caution flag. On the restart, Casey would take the lead with Anvelink second and Flannery third. Gordie Seegert would work his way around Flannery for the third position. Anvelink then looked to the inside of Casey for the lead, but Casey would remain in the top spot. Gordie Seegert would look to the inside of Anvelink for the second position, and then Buhler would follow, putting Anvelink in the fourth position.
Seegert would take over the lead with an inside pass on Casey, Anvelink would take over the third spot with a pass on Buhler, and then looked to the inside of Casey to take over the second position. When the green flag flew for the IMCA Modifieds it was Schutt taking the top spot with Eric VanEyten in second and Tom Schaal in the third position. Mike Wedelstadt would take the outside line around Schaal to take over the third spot, as Schutt would pull away from the field. Wedelstadt would then look to the inside of VanEyten for the second position when the caution flag would fly. On the restart, Schutt would take the lead with Wedelstadt second and VanEyten in the third spot. Schaal would take back the third spot with an inside pass, but VanEyten would not give up that easy, going to the outside of Schaal. Schaal would remain in the third position and Charlie Wild took over the fourth spot with an inside pass on VanEyten.
The caution flag would fly once more and on the restart, Schutt would take the point with Wedelstadt second and Schaal third. The caution would fly for the third time, and then the fourth time, when time expired. When the checkers flew under caution, Schutt would take the win, Wedelstadt second, and Schaal rounding out the tip three.
The IMCA Stock Car feature seen Shannon Volkman take the lead with Brian Karcz second and B.J. Giese in the third position. The caution flag would fly and on the restart, Volkman would take the lead with Czarapata second and Rod Snellenberger in the third. Karcz would then take over the third position with a pass on Snellenberger.
Volkman and Czarapata would run wheel to wheel for two laps for the top spot. Volkman would win that battle when Czarapata dropped out of the race due to a flat tire. The caution flag would fly once more and on the restart, Volkman would take the lead with Snellenberger second and Brian Karcz in the third position. When the race ended, it would be Volkman taking the win with Snellenberger second and Karcz rounding out the top three.
The Street Stock Feature seen Bruce Belland jump to the early lead, but Gary Kasperek would soon take away the position. The caution flag would fly and on the restart, Kasperek would continue to lead with Belland second, Scott VanProoyen third and Junior Howard fourth. VanProoyen would waste no time in the third position, and would take second with an outside pass on Belland. VanProoyen would not settle for second, and began to close the gap to first place Kasperek. VanProoyen would run out of time to catch Kasperek and ended the race in the second position; Kasperek would take the win with Belland rounding out the top three.
The Truck Feature seen Mike Bostwick jump to the front with Jeff Becker second and Thayer in the third position. The caution flag would fly and on the restart, Bostwick would jump back in the lead with Thayer second and Becker third.
