WELKOM, FREE STATE, SOUTH AFRICA (Saturday, January 30, 2010) - Last evening at the "Welcome to Welkom" dinner, ASA President announced that the ASA Transcontinental Series Free State 500 will be dedicated to Harry Davis, father of Marc Davis, who passed away unexpectedly last week. Marc Davis will be competing in the event.
Harry Davis was very instrumental in having his son compete in the Free State 500 event and was looking forward to Marc traveling to South Africa for the historic event.
"This really means a lot," Marc Davis said. "He really put a lot into this deal and we went back and forth with our team of whether or not to come here. He would have been heartbroken if we didn't come. So we just have to tough it out and go out there and win the race."
In Friday's practice session, Davis was ninth fastest in practice with his teammate Tiff Daniels was a touch faster posting the seventh fastest time of the day.
Qualifying for the ASA Free State 500 will take place on Saturday afternoon. The race itself will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. local time, 6 a.m. Eastern Standard time and 3 a.m. pacific time.
