"SWISS COLONY ALL-STAR CHALLENGE 100" WRAP-UP NOTES

IT ISN'T OVER UNTIL THE CHECKERED FLAG FALLS

By: Kari Shear-Carlson
(Friday, July 2, 2010) The American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net returned to Madison International Speedway on Tuesday night for the "Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge" featuring Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart. This marked the fifth event on the ASAMT 2010 schedule.

KENSETH AND KENSETH TAKE THE PODIUM
2009 ASA Midwest Tour defending Champion, Steve Carlson appeared to have the field covered on Tuesday night. The veteran driver kept leader Nick Murgic in his sights until lap 82 when he made his move to take over the top spot. Matt Kenseth started 14th and worked his way up to and settled into the fifth position for the middle portion of the race. After the break at lap 75, Kenseth did not waste any time and quickly caught Carlson. The two made some contact on the backstretch on the last lap which allowed Matt to get underneath Carlson and Kenseth powered off of turn four beating Carlson to the line. Ross Kenseth had also had a good run, sandwiching Carlson between the two Kenseths with his third place finish.

SWISS COLONY TOURING STARS EVEN OUT THE FIELD
Six of the 14 ASA Midwest Tour Swiss Colony Touring Stars finished in the top ten. In addition to Steve Carlson's second place finish, Dan Fredrickson had another great run, finishing fourth. Nick Murgic who led a large portion ended his night in fifth followed by Jacob Goede. After four consecutive podium finishes, Chris Wimmer went home in the 9th spot with Nathan Haseleu rounding out the top-ten.

TONY STEWART HAPPY TO RETURN
Tony Stewart returned once again for the "Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge" and finished in 15th. Stewart failed to qualify for the event and was placed in the field as a promoter's choice. Stewart was satisfied with his finish and added he probably would have been better if he had qualified better. Regardless, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion had fun and promises to return again next year.

POINTS BATTLE CLOSES UP
With Steve Carlson's second place finish, and Chris Wimmer's ninth place finish, Carlson took the point lead by only one point over Wimmer. Carlson has won three of the first five events and Wimmer has finished in the top three in four of the first five events. Rookie of the Year contender, Ross Kenseth continues to hold on to the third spot ahead of ASAMT Swiss Colony Touring Stars Dan Fredrickson, Nathan Haseleu, Jacob Goede, Tim Schendel, and Jeff Storm. Rookie of the Year contender, Griffin McGrath is ninth while Touring Star Nick Murgic rounds out the top ten.

WILBERG DOMINATES ASA MIDWEST SPORTSMAN TOUR EVENT
Veteran driver, Bobby Wilberg set the pace for the "Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge" 35 lap sportsman event Tuesday night. After a lot of slicing and dicing, Scott Null, Chris Marek, Aaron Cain, and Mike Heelein rounded out the top five. The ASAMST will once again join the ASAMT on July 18th in Shakopee, MN.
