TY MAJESKI WINS FIRST ASA MIDWEST SCAG TRUCK TOUR EVENT
By Kari Shear-Carlson
August 2, 2011 - Ty Majeski won his first ever ASA Midwest SCAG Truck Tour event last Friday night, July 29th as the series made it's debut at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI for the Larry Detjens Memorial 50 lap feature.
Majeski who was driving the #2 Wood Brothers truck, was fastest in practice, fastest in qualifying and followed it up with the win. After qualifying in the top spot, the invert put the #15 of Dustin Karl on the pole with the #9 of Gary McDonald on the outside. Majeski started 12th.
Gary McDonald took the early lead, but it did not take long for the #10 of Tom Roney to take over the lead the next lap. With 47 laps to go, Chris Wimmer who was making his first ever start in an ASA Midwest SCAG truck was all the way up to fourth. The caution flew on lap 47. Roney was leading followed by Kyle Brinkmann, Rick Corso, Chris Wimmer, and Ty Majeski.
As the green flag fell, Wimmer jumped into third and made his way to second two laps later. Wimmer continued his run taking the lead from Roney on the outside with 42 laps remaining.
Meanwhile, Majeski continued to power through the field as well and with only 37 laps to go was all over the back bumper of Wimmer challenging for the lead. Wimmer was able to hold him off, but not for long. With 23 laps to go, Majeski and Wimmer made slight contact and Majeski took the position.
Another caution flew with 21 laps to go. Majeski continued to lead followed by Wimmer, Jerry Wood, current point leader, Austin Luedtke and Rick Corso. At the restart, Wimmer tried to take the lead back on the outside, but just could not make it stick, so he looked to the inside, but just could not get it done.
With 15 laps to go, Wimmer was all over Majeski while Austin Luedtke had made his way into third ahead of Jerry Wood and Corso. Majeski extended his lead to five truck-lengths over Wimmer as the laps wound down. With seven to go, Wood started to challenge Luedtke for third and took the position on the inside.
Ty Majeski took home his first victory with Wimmer, Jerry Wood, Luedtke, and Corso rounding out the top five.
