Rookie Jacob Dolhun ready for change as he prepares for ASL open at I-70

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Jacob Dolhun has run some very fast high banked tracks before in 700 horsepower race cars.   So, his first appearance ever at the half-mile lightning quick I-70 Speedway at odessa, MO in the American Stock Car League (ASL) season opener on Saturday night, April 30 should be a snap. Dolhun's only problem is that he has very limited paved track experience. He has raced dirt late models on tracks like Eldora Speedway in Ohio, but I-70 is paved. He entered two ASA National Tour events last year, but qualifying was washed out in both cases so the races were lined up by point standings.   He was the new kid on the block and had no points. So his paved track experience in a late model car is limited to a couple of practice sessions. "We plan on putting a lot of laps on at Lake Geneva Raceway between now and April 30," Dohlun said.  The one-third mile paved oval is just 30 minutes from his Milwaukee home. Dolhun is confortable in making big switches.  He raced go karts two
half seasons at Dousman.   From that experience he went straight into the dirt late model wars. "I went from five horsepower to 700 horsepower.  I raced dirt late models at Antigo, Shawano and Seymour.    I later ran at Beaver Dam, Hales Corners and the Manitwoc Expo," Dohlun stated.   He won his first dirt late model race at Beaver Dam.

His brother, T.J., still races dirt late models and his father, Ted, raced in USAC and dirt late models for 30 years.   "I worked on their cars and was crew chief for a couple of years," Dolhun continued. "I've driven a lot of different tracks.  That should help and my crew chief background gives me a lot of knowledge about race cars," he indicated. He also has a veteran paved track crew chief in Bob Durovka.   "Bob has really organized the whole team for me.   Between the two of us, we'll root out all the bad things and go with the good.  We plan to keep things basic and just try to be smooth on the race track," Dolhun explained. The 26-year-old Dohlun should be a prime candidate for the Pat Schauer Rookie of the Year recognition award.   "I am really excited about the series.  The rookie of the year thing is a definate goal.   It would be special if a Wisconsin guy could win the Pat Schauer award because that was his home state," Dolhun concluded.
