Kevin Cywinski scheduled to race in Tuesday Night Shootout ASL race at Kaukauna track
KAUKAUNA, WI -- Three-time American Speed Association (ASA) National Touring champion and former ARTGO champion Kevin Cywinski of Lakeville, MN has announced that he will be competing in the Tuesday Night Shootout at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI Tuesday night, Aug. 2. The night's events will be headlined by a 150-lap American Stock Car League (ASL) feature race on the WIR D-shaped half-mile track. Qualifying is planned for 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. The ASL was formed seven weeks ago and the ASA group indicated they would not be sanctioning any races in 2005.
"The competition level remained high last year even though the teams weren't getting paid," Cywinski said of the 2004 season. He wrapped up his third title, but received no point fund money. "I got my trophy a couple of weeks ago," Cywinski noted. Cywinski and ARCA rookie Joey Miller will be driving County Joe Racing Monte Carlos. "Hopefully things will look up this year and the new series will
gradually build. I believe there's a good chance it will happen," Cywinski said. "The way the ASL is structured reminds me of ARTGO," Cywinski continued. "It needs to be run like John McKarns ran ARTGO. You need to put people in the grandstands," he stated. Cywinski was the 1986 CWRA late model champion and the 1995 ARTGO champion. He was the 1997, 2003 and 2004 ASA champion and a former all-conference football player at Mosinee, WI High School. "We'll be running the ASL races that do not conflict with the ARCA schedule," Cywinski concluded.
