Sharp Racing picks Georgia's Jonathan Davenport to drive American StockCar League Monte Carlo

ROCKWALL, TX -- Sharp Racing of Rockwall, TX has selected Georgia racing whiz Jonathan Davenport to drive their Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the newly formed American StockCar League (ASL) which opens Saturday night, April 30 at the I-70 Speedway in Odessa, MO at 7 p.m. Davenport, who is expected to compete in six NASCAR Craftsman Truck races this year for Sharp Racing, had an incredible 105 feature wins in Legends Pro Series races in the span of four years.

He began racing Legends cars when he was 14 years old and managed to put together a string of 25 straight wins, including nine in-a-row in the Florida Winter Series in 2000. He had been racing dirt late models near his hometown of Blairsville, GA with 11 feature wins and 20 fast times over the past two years.  He has also competed in some Southern AllStars and Extreme Dirt Series events.

His biggest Legend Series race win was $15,000 and the World Finals title at Hardeville, SC.  'I still hold six track records in Legends cars," Davenport said.  "I started racing go karts when I was seven years old and was driving dirt mini stocks when I was twelve," he added. 'I won nine track titles and I was still a kid," Davenport remarked. Now 21 years old, Davenport is ready to make his mark at the upper levels of motorsports.   He served as a test driver for Sharp Racing's NASCAR Southwest Tour car last year and has run 25 paved track races at Lanier GA Speedway where he has been a top ten finisher in his first year of paved track racing. Sharp Racing recently tested its ASL car at Houston, TX Motorsports Park.  'We want to continue to gain some track experience with good competition and we're happy to see we'll be racing on Goodyear radials in the ASL. That will be an advantage for us in the future," Davenport concluded.
