The World of Outlaw Sprints took to the fast 1/3 mile high-banked clay oval at Charter Raceway Park in the first of two days of the best in open wheel racing. The Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series also were on hand to provide the racing action.
Jason Solwold of Mt. Vernon, WA led from start to finish to win the crash-marred 40-lap World of Outlaws Sprints A-Main. Joey Saldana of Brownsburg, IN drove to second followed by Danny Lasoski of Dover, MO. See the World of Outlaws press release for a detailed account and race results.
Twenty-five cars took the green flag at the start of the Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series 20-lap A-Main. Bethany Wyttenbach of Plain grabbed the lead from the pole position followed by Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA. Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City, Brad Weber of Rolling Prairie and Eric Barth of Sauk City were on the move and diced for position. Brian Peterson of Mukwonago was also in the mix toward the front. Joel Wyttenbach powered his way into second. Brother and sister then fought it for the lead with Joel slipping by on the inside to take the lead on lap seven. The first caution of the event came out on lap eight for a spin by Bud Stoudt of Beaver Dam. Eric Barth of Sauk City had a great restart and charged into the lead on lap nine. Brad Weber then moved into position to begin to challenge Barth for the lead. After several laps, Joel Wyttenbach fought back into the battle up front. On lap sixteen, Wyttenbach and Weber got together with Weber sustaining damage that caused him to stop in turn four. When racing resumed, Barth remained out in front. With nineteen laps complete, the red flag waved for an incident in which Loren Zuhlke Jr. of Beaver Dam got upside down in turn two. The car caught fire, but a quick responding safety crew was able to quickly extinguish it. Jeremy Meyer of Cedar Rapids, IA and Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls were also involved. All drivers were ok. Barth won the one lap dash on the restart to pick up his second win in a row and his third of the season. Bethany Wyttenbach had her best finish of the season with a strong second place finish. Brian Peterson also had a good run to take third. Warren Ropp followed in fourth ahead of Joey Johnson of Hartford.
In heat race action earlier in the evening, Eric Barth, Brad Weber and Warren Ropp drove to wins.
