Charter Raceway Park 9-15-07

The final points night of the season took place at Charter Raceway Park on Saturday night on Charter Communications Half Price Night at the Races.
Dave Schoenberger of Beaver Dam captured his second win of the season in the 20-lap Johnsonville Brats Modifieds A-Main. Starting in the fourth row, Schoenberger quickly moved up to second on lap four and then two laps later slipped past John Stanton of Reeseville to take over the lead. Schoenberger appeared to be headed for the win when the caution flag waved with eighteen laps completed. The field bunched up behind Schoenberger for the restart giving Stanton one more chance to try to pull off the win. Schoenberger led when the green flag waved for the two-lap dash to the end. Stanton immediately put heavy pressure on Schoenberger in the battle for the lead. As the pair exited turn four on the final lap, Stanton made one last bid for the win, pulling to the inside of Schoenberger. As the checkered flag waved, Schoenberger edged Stanton to take the win. Mitch McGrath of Neosho charged from the ninth row to finish in third. John Peters of Nichols, making his first appearance of the season, came from the sixth row to take fourth. Don Scheffler of Wauwatosa drove to fifth.
Tim Lemirande of Verona, who wrapped up his third track championship the previous Saturday, unfortunately also lost an engine in that event and did not compete on the final points night. Schoenberger’s win allowed him to finish second in the standings ahead of Mike Sandholm of Oconomowoc. Eddie Lemay Jr. of Milwaukee was fourth in points. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge was fifth.
Roger Lee of Wind Lake took over the lead from Marcus Cox of Waupun on lap twelve and then cruised to his eighth win of the season in the 20-lap The Mortgage Guys Grand Nationals Division A-Main. Nick Schumacher of Eagle ran near the front throughout the event and finished in second. Dion Wahl of Omro cracked the top five for the first time this season with a third place finish. Marcus Cox drove to fourth. Tommy Moore of Muskego was fifth.
Roger Lee clinched his second consecutive track championship the previous Saturday and finished ahead of Dan Schumacher of Milwaukee and Brian Gerber of Waupun in the final point standings by a comfortable margin. Steve Seitz of Beaver Dam finished fourth in points. Tommy Moore was fifth for the season.
Jerry Winkler of Oshkosh moved up from the fifth row to take over the lead on lap five and went onto win his seventh win of the season in the 20-lap Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks Division A-Main. Jim Berkevich, who led the first four laps, finished in second ahead of Barry Cates of Greenfield. Craig Lepple of Beaver Dam had a strong run coming from the seventh row to finish in fourth. Russ Davison of Horicon drove to fifth.
Jerry Winkler was crowned the track champion in the division winning the title over Jon Schultz of Waunakee and Dan Troyan of Menomonie Falls. Roger Frank finished his rookie season in fourth. Matt Bedker of Beaver Dam took fifth in points.
Brad Weber of Rolling Prairie fought right down to the wire with Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City in an exciting 20-lap Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series A-Main. Wyttenbach, who exchanged the lead a couple of times with Weber, dove to the inside of Weber coming out of turn four on the final lap. However, Weber won the drag race to the finish line edging out Wyttenbach by less than a car length. Eric Barth of Sauk City was working well on the inside groove as he worked his way up from the middle of the pack to finish in third. Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA also picked his way up through the traffic to take the fourth position. Early race leader, Brian Peterson of Mukwonago, followed in fifth.
Eric Barth’s third place finish clinched his fourth track championship at Charter Raceway Park. Brad Weber, who contended for the title all season long, finished in second ahead of Phil Van Tatenhove of Gibbsville and Joey Johnson of Hartford. 2005 Champion Joel Wyttenbach finished fifth in points.
Matthew Janke of Mequon took over the lead from Kevin Allard of Brandon with just three laps remaining and stayed out in front the rest of the way to capture his third win of the season in the 20-lap Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils A-Main. Allard held onto second with Stephen Lemay of Milwaukee taking third. Aaron Stolp of West Allis followed in fourth. Eddie Lemay III of Milwaukee was fifth.
Shaun Diebert of West Milwaukee drove to sixth in the A-Main and was crowned the track champion by a five-point margin over Aaron Stolp. Tim Draheim of Beaver Dam finished third in points ahead of Kip Klawitter of Berlin and Tim Sheppard of Beaver Dam.
B-Main wins were registered by Eddie Lemay Jr. in the modifieds and by Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls in the legends.
Heat race wins were recorded by Mike Sandholm, John Stanton, Don Scheffler and Dave Schoenberger in the modified division. Roger Lee and Don Sorce Jr. of West Allis were victorious in the grand national heats. Stock heat race wins were scored by Jim Berkevich and Jerry Winkler. Legend heat race wins went to Joel Wyttenbach, Brad Weber and Eric Barth. The dirt devils division heat race wins were taken by Aaron Stolp and Matthew Janke.
