The brisk winds of an exciting race season prevail at Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam.  Manager, Carolyn Mueller recently announced that the five division Saturday evening program will start on May 10th and will end August 30th.  Mueller was also excited about the return of the World of Outlaws on August 2nd.  The “Duel at the Dam” series that features the IRA Sprints and the Badger Midgets has been expanded to three thrilling open wheel brawls on May 3rd, May 31st and July 12th.  September is being reserved for rain dates and possible special events.

The gala January awards banquet was attended by over 250 racers, family members, friends and sponsors.  Not only were past champions honored, but the outstanding work of announcer Dennis Thompson was recognized.  Thompson emotionally announced his retirement and received a standing ovation.  In his place, Bill Mews has been hired.  Mueller stated that “Bill’s enthusiastic voice and unique track demeanor” will add new twists to the exciting racing at Charter.  Mews brings years of experience with him from Hales Corners and Wilmot Speedways.

The owners of Charter have also reconfirmed their passion and commitment to short track racing.  They recently awarded Modern Builders of Ripon, WI a contract to construct a new “fair like” pavilion.  The spacious structure will include areas for individual vendors, sponsor recognition area, offices, additional picnic areas and a large, easy access beverage center.  Included with the 4000 square foot structure will be improved lighting and sound systems.  They should all be ready by the season opener.
