Beaver Dam, WI – May 10, 2008. On a chilly Saturday night, the racing was hot as Charter Raceway Park opened its regular five division schedule.  Although rain shortened the night’s events, the fans were treated to some great racing.  The Street Stocks started the night’s A-Mains off with Jesse Kanas taking the top spot at the drop of the green.  Jon Schultz and Jerry Kope held down the second and third spots respectively as they worked the inside to try and get past Kanas.  They were unsuccessful until lap number eight when they were both able to get past Kanas dropping him to third.  That’s the way they would finish with Andrew Araco and Jerry Winkler rounding out the top five.

In the only other A-Main to be completed, Tommy Moore held off the hard-charging cars of Don Sorce Jr and Roger Lee to pick up his first feature win of the year.  Sorce and Lee started well back in the field but methodically worked their way up and by lap 13 both Sorce and Lee were on Moore back bumper.  The three would com up on lap traffic that made things even more interesting but Moore was able to hold them off.  The three tangled going into turn two on the white flag lap with both Moore and Lee coming to a stop and bringing out the yellow.  Before the cars were able to get lined back up for the restart, track officials deemed the track to slick from the drizzle and called the event giving the win to Sorce.  It was determined later in the evening, that the yellow should have come out earlier for the track conditions and gave the win back to Moore who had been leading at the time.

Next week, Charter Raceway Park will host the regular five division lineup for the Modifieds, Grand Nationals, Dirt Devils, Legends and Street Stock cars. Pits open at 3:30 and the main gates open at 4:30. Racing starts is scheduled to start promptly at 6:30. Contact the track office for more information at 920-382-7858.
