Wednesday, January 16, 2008 (Loves Park, IL) – One of the more legendary names in motorsports will be represented in the 2008 Big 8 Series season. David Naumann has announced that Travis Sauter, grandson of Jim Sauter and son of Tim Sauter, will be driving his Competition Graphics, Falbe Collision Center Chevrolet.
“I’m really excited about driving David’s cars in the Big Series,” the third generation driver recently stated. “He has good equipment, and we should be able to run up front, which always makes it fun. It also gives me a chance to race more often without running my own stuff so that helps out too.”
Travis will not be the only Sauter competing in the 2008 season as his younger brother, Tyler, will also be competing. “I haven’t seen too many Big 8 races, but I know it’s a very competitive series so we’ll have to have our stuff right if we want to win,” Sauter stated. “It should be fun getting to race with my brother Tyler a little bit; we haven’t got to do that yet. It’s sort of a pressure free deal for me so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Naumann has a great history with the Sauter family, “I have had the opportunity to work with about half of the family at one time or another,” Naumann stated. “With having spent time with Jay on his ASA National Tour cars in the early 90’s and more recently working with Tim in 2005 on his NASCAR Nationwide Series team.”
Naumann and Sauter are no strangers to each other, “Travis needed a spotter last season for his ASA Midwest Tour schedule and I really got to see first hand the level of talent and determination this young man has,” Naumann explained. “He has worked on his dad’s ASA National Tour cars and spent a number of years working with Johnny on his ASANT stuff, so he has an incredible amount of chassis and fabrication knowledge.”
Last season, Sauter finished 8th in points with three top-five and six top-ten finishes in 11 starts. Sauter finished second in the Rookie points and will compete in both the ASAMT and Big 8 Series events in 2008. “Travis will run again the full ASA Midwest Tour schedule with his own car,” Naumann stated. “Other than the three double dates the Big 8 Series shares with the ASAMT, the schedules do not have any conflicts so this summer should be a lot of fun.”
Travis hopes to become the second Sauter to join the Big 8 Series winner’s list as his father joined the list with a win at Madison International Speedway in 2005.
Other sponsors include: Competition Sportswear, Howe Racing Enterprises, Wehr’s Machine, Coleman Machine, and Behling Racing.
The 2008 Big 8 Series season opens on Sunday afternoon, April 13th with a 100-lap feature event at Rockford Speedway’s annual Spring Classic event.
