Thursday, January 24, 2008 (Loves Park, IL) – Big 8 Series officials along with Golden Sands Speedway have announced that the “Weekly Warriors” will make their first ever visit to the Plover, WI 1/3-mile facility on Friday, July 11th. This announcement fills in the open July date that the Big 8 Series had as “TBA” on their 2008 schedule.
“We are ecstatic that the Big 8 Series is coming to Golden Sands,” Craig Bassuener, Golden Sands Speedway Promoter stated today. “We look forward to having them as part of our traditional Friday night program. Our weekly fans will enjoy their racing action and we look forward to hosting the Big 8 Series along with their fans.”
Golden Sands was built by legendary Promoter Sam Bartus in 1967. Bartus is also famous for building Madison International Speedway. Today, the Bassuener family operates the facility and has won numerous awards for having one of the best racing facilities in the United States.
“This will be an exciting opportunity for our competitors to race at Golden Sands,” Gregg McKarns, Big 8 Series Promoter stated. “I grew up watching some great races with some of the greatest names in the sport like Dick Trickle, Tom Reffner, Brian Reffner, Marv Marzofka, and Jim Back, along with today’s stars like Mark Eswein, Kirby Kirth, and Kenny Richards. This will be a fun event for everyone.”
The 2008 Big 8 Series season will begin on Sunday, April 13th with a 100-lap feature event as part of the Annual Spring Classic season opener at the Rockford Speedway.
