Jim Sauter to serve as NASCAR Night Grand Marshal

The Dells Raceway Park, is proud to announce that Jim Sauter has agreed to serve as the Grand Marshal for the Tuesday, June 12th NASCAR Night Back Home 100.

The Tuesday night event showcases the American Speed Association's Midwest Touring Stars, competing against an expanded starting field that will include six NASCAR drivers confirmed for the 100-lap Super Late Model Feature.

Joining the ASA Midwest Tour event, will be 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Champion Travis Kvapil, along with Johnny Sauter, Scott Wimmer, Tim Sauter, Chris Wimmer, and 2006 Craftsman Truck Rookie of the Year Erik Darnell.

The patriarch of Wisconsin's first family of racing, Jim Sauter will co-pilot the Schulz Automotive 2007 Silverado Pace Truck throughout the event and take part in a VIP autograph session with the NASCAR drivers competing in the event.

A veteran of 80 career NASCAR starts; Jim Sauter has competed in more than six dozen NASCAR Cup races. The father of NASCAR drivers Jay, Tim, and Johnny Sauter, the long-time Necedah resident has made plenty of his own starts at the famed Juneau County, one-third mile Dells track.

Long considered as one of Wisconsin's racing legends, Jim Sauter competed across the Badger State, winning track Championships at La Crosse and Kaukauna. Perhaps best when competing on the road, two years before his 1980 NASCAR Winston Cup debut, Sauter won the ARCA 200 at Daytona. Closer to home, he was a proven competitor in the ARTGO Series, having claimed their 1982 Series Championship.

No stranger to ASA racing, Jim Sauter has seven career ASA National Tour wins, a mark he shares with Rusty Wallace, Darrell Waltrip, and his own son - Tim Sauter (1999 ASA National Tour Champion).

While Sauter's wins and Championships have earned him a special place in the hearts of racing fans across Wisconsin, he also is part of NASCAR history. History that may never again be matched.

On June 30th, 2002, Jim along with his sons Jay, Tim, and Johnny Sauter made NASCAR history, when for the first time since 1949, four members of the same family competed in a NASCAR race.
Not only did the four qualify and race in the Milwaukee Mile NASCAR Busch Series GNC Live Well 250, but they all qualified in the top ten. NASCAR Nextel Cup regular, Greg Biffle won the race, but the real stars of the event were Jim, Jay, Tim, and Johnny Sauter who brought the bright lights of the national sports media back home to Wisconsin.

Wisconsin racing lore will always portray Jim Sauter as one of the Badger State pioneers who helped open the flood gates of Wisconsin talent to the next level. He looks at it differently. Jim Sauter credits they way drivers learn to race in Wisconsin as leading to the success they enjoy at NASCAR. The availability of local tracks and plenty of racing opportunities along with learning to race through the field is what Sauter credits to the success Wisconsin drivers have achieved when running against racing's very best.
