CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT DELLS RACEWAY PARK
Holzhausen, Potter, Jankowski, Luck and Boehm took home feature wins

WISCONSIN DELLS, WI (Saturday, September 06, 2008) - Another great crowd was on hand to watch the ASA Member Track excitement at Dells Raceway Park as the track crowned its 2008 champions.  Jeff Kendall, Mike Ehde, Travis Hancock, Brad Luck, and Wally Boehm took home championships while Steve Holzhausen, Cardell Potter, Corey Jankowski, Luck, and Boehm took home feature wins.

Jim Carlson grabbed the early lead from Terry Patnode in the 75-lap main event.  Don "Thunder" Turner followed Carlson and took second.

The outside line was moving in the early going as Holzhausen would take over the third spot on lap four.

Two laps later, Turner would get on the inside of Carlson and challenge for the top spot, and would get it on lap seven.  Holzhausen would follow and get second.

Jeff Kendall was working his way to the front trying to get past Carlson on lap 24 when the two made contact going into turn one to bring out another caution.  Kendall used the "gentleman's rule" and acknowledged that he was the one to bring the caution out.  The rule allowed Carlson to get his third spot back while Kendall went to the rear of the field.

Turner continued to lead with Holzhausen right on his back bumper while Dan Lensing would get past Carlson for third on lap 28.  But, Ken Reiser would get past Lensing for third a lap later and those two would catch up to the back bumper of Holzhausen.

Holzhausen went to the outside of Turner on lap 34 and get by him to take over the lead on lap 35.

A bad crash happened lap 39 as Reiser and Turner got together coming out of turn two.  Reiser got loose on the back stretch and turned right into Dan Lensing.  Lensing then made hard contact with the wall near the pit exit and his car stopped in turns three and four.  Lensing was able to walk away but was done for the night.  The field was put under a red flag.

Holzhausen continued to lead on the re-start with Kevin Breschia in second and Trute in third.  Bobby Wilberg, who started shotgun on the field, was up to fourth.

With 25 laps to go, Holzhausen opened up to a five-car length lead on Breschia while Wilberg got on the inside of Trute to take over third on lap 53.

Holzhausen led the field to the checkered flag and take home another feature win.  Breschia would hold off Wilberg for second.  Trute was fourth with Tom Lichtfeld rounding out the top five.

Kendall would finish eighth and would capture his second straight Late Model championship at DRP.  Lensing earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Reiser won the dash while Lensing set the fast time of 13.334 seconds (89.995 mph).

Only ten points separated Kurt Clapper, Mike Ehde and Rich Schumann Jr. going into the 50-lap feature for the Limited Late Models.

Cardell Potter jumped to the early lead over Shane Poehnelt as the green flag flew.  The caution flew on lap three when Andy Niles and Joel Soenksen made contact coming out of turn four causing Niles to spin on the front stretch.

Potter continued to lead while Schumann moved up to third and Clapper was in fourth.  Ehde was up to sixth on lap seven.

Caution flew on lap nine as Paul Seidler and Bill Gray made contact in turns three and four causing Seidler to spin.  Seidler then collected Andy Niles as the two made hard contact.  Both drivers were alright.

Potter was still up front while Schumann was looking for a way to take over second from Poehnelt.  But Schumann had to fend off Clapper for third.

The caution flew on lap 22 when it appeared that Ehde got into Steve Lichtfeld in turn three.  It was appearing that Ehde was going to go to the rear, but Lichtfeld told officials that he lost a cylinder which caused Ehde to get into him.  Ehde was given his spot back.   Lichtfeld would retire a few laps later.

The three drivers, Schumann, Clapper, and Ehde were running third through fifth at the halfway mark.

Ehde went to the outside of Clapper for fourth on lap 27.  The two raced side-by-side for eight laps until Ehde got the spot with 19 laps to go.

With ten laps to go, Potter continued to lead but Schumann would get past Poehnelt for the second spot while Ehde was still in fourth and Clapper in fifth.

Potter would have almost a straightaway lead on Schumann as he took his second feature win of the season.  Poehnelt was third with Ehde in fourth and Clapper in fifth.

Ehde's pass on Clapper would also be the championship pass as he would take home the Limited Late Model championship by one point over Clapper and three points over Schumann.  Potter was named Rookie of the Year.

Jesse Bernhagen was the dash winner and Schumann was the fast qualifier 14.274 seconds (84.068 mph).

Jankowski surprised Lichtfeld on the last lap to win the Super Stock feature.  But Hancock won the season long battle.

Dale Schultz jumped to the lead in the 40-lap feature event as Hancock move up to fourth by lap two.  Mike Lichtfeld went to the outside of Schultz on lap five and took over the top spot with Hancock following.

Hancock got past Schultz on lap 8 and started his chase towards Lichtfeld who had a ten car length lead.

Hancock would narrow the gap by the halfway mark as the two approached lap traffic.
The lap traffic allowed Lichtfeld to keep a good lead over Hancock while Corey Jankowski started to pressure Hancock for the second spot.  Lichtfeld opened up to almost a straightaway lead over Hancock.

Lap traffic would come into play with five laps to go as Lichtfeld was stuck behind allowing Hancock to get on his back bumper.  But, Jankowski would have the final say on this as on the last lap; he would get on the inside of Lichtfeld and take the win by bumper over Lichtfeld.

Hancock would finish third and win the Super Stock championship by just three points over Jankowski.

Scott Luck was fourth and Jim Bates rounded out the top five.

Phil Smith held off Mike Lichtfeld to win the dash.  Hancock set a new track record in qualifying with a time of 14.629 seconds (82.028 mph).

Luck and Lenny Raupp battled all the way to the last lap for the Pure Stock championship.

Sandy Cook was the early leader in the 30-lap feature for the Pure Stock division.  Dan Fassett challenged for the lead on lap 5 but Luck would go on the outside of both of them going into turn three and take over the top spot.

Lenny Raupp caught Luck for the lead on lap 10 and the two made contact coming out of turn two.  Luck pulled away to a ten-car length lead over Raupp.  Not only was this the battle on the track, it was also the battle for the championship.

With ten laps to go, Raupp was inching closer and closer to Luck, as they both had to race their way through lap traffic.  Raupp continued to close the gap on Luck with five laps to go as the two were gaining a large pack of lap traffic.

Raupp caught Luck with two laps to go but Luck would use lap traffic to his advantage and take the checkered flag with Raupp in second.  Cook would finish third and Willy Schreiber in fourth.  Daron Fish was fifth.

The win is what Luck needed in order to capture the championship over Luck.  Luck became the Pure Stock champion by nine points over Raupp.

Fish was the dash winner and Raupp led qualifying with a time of 16.130 seconds (74.395 mph).

Boehm capped off the Bandit season with a win and a championship.

Rothenburger had the early lead in the 20-lap feature for the Bandit division.  Caution flew on lap 3 when David Treu Sr. and Jody Schmidt got together on the front stretch.  Cody Gray was also involved and made hard contact with the wall.  He was able to walk away but was done for the night.

Rothenburger continued to lead while Wally Boehm worked his way to the front, taking over second on lap seven.  Boehm went to the outside then to the inside of Rothenburger on lap ten and took the lead at the halfway mark.

The second caution flew on lap 12 when Jeff Vetrone made contact with the wall coming off of turn four.  Vetrone was able to walk away.   On the re-start, Boehm continued to lead and pulled away from Rothenburger.  Treu re-started from the rear after the third caution and worked his way back to third with seven to go.

Treu went to the outside of Rothenburger to take over second with four laps to go but Boehm had too big of a lead for Treu to catch him as the checkered flag flew.

Treu was second with Rothenburger in third.  Ben Kreyer was fourth with Tyler Theisen rounding out the top five.

The win was also the icing on the cake for Boehm as he took home the 2008 Bandit championship.

Jody Schmidt won the dash while Treu was the fast qualifier with his time of 17.432 seconds (68.838 mph).
