Baldry Wins on Opening Night

(KAUKAUNA, WI) Terry Baldry returned to racing at Fox River Racing Club on Thursday night at Wisconsin International Raceway in the familiar #8 late model and wound up in victory lane. Baldry started the 35-lap feature event from inside row two. Frank Kreyer, took the early lead, until caution slowed the field on lap nine, for a one car incident on the back stretch for rookie Todd Baumann. On the restart, Baldry choose the outside lane and muscled his way past Kreyer to take the lead. Balrdy never looked back, leading the final 26 laps. Kreyer held on for second, followed by defending champion Jeff VanOudenhoven, Doug Mahlik, and Mark Schroeder.
Kris Kelly won the 20-lap limited late model feature and was the fast qualifier. Jessie Van Roy and Jack Pankratz raced side by side for the first three laps, until Van Roy pulled ahead on lap four, going into turn three. Van Roy continued to lead while Kelly, who started the race from the thirteenth position, had worked his way to fifth. A lengthy red flag came out on lap ten after Gary Natrop spun in turn one. The restart allowed Mike Meyerhofer to take the lead coming out of turn two. Kelly continued to move his way through the field, passing Van Roy and Pankratz, and settling in third position. Kelly made his move on the inside of rookie Sawyer Effertz going into turn one on lap thirteen. As the laps came to a close, Kelly followed Meyerhofer, waiting for an opportunity to pull alongside him. The two raced side by side through the backstretch on lap seventeen, until Kelly cleared him going in turn three. On the white flag lap, Meyerhofer and Effertz made contact, bringing out the final caution of the event. Kelly was followed across the finish line by Brandon Conrad, Van Roy, Todd Verhagen, and rookie Rod Brewe.
Denny Krass led the first seventeen laps of the Super Stock feature until he tangled with Dylan Wenzel as the two battled for the lead. The restart allowed fast qualifier Greg Haese to take the lead and go on to win the 20-lap feature. Larry Raygo was second, followed by Greg Hauser, Ed Howard and Randy Rahn.
Jeff Van Handel took the lead on lap two and battled with Jason Plutz, who passed for the lead on lap eight. Plutz continued to lead and was challenged by Ron Magdanz. The who raced side by side until Magdanz took the lead coming out of turn three on lap seventeen. Magdanz spun coming out of turn two on the next lap, catapulting Plutz back to the lead. Plutz continued on for the win, followed by Van Handel, Taylor Vandermoss, Dan Vixmer, and Ron Champeau.
In the first Sizzling 4 feature of the evening, Dave Wacek led every lap of the race, excluding lap 11 when Kurt Schweitzer edged ahead of him for the lead. Wacek was followed across the finish line by Katie Braun, Dylan Wenzel, Schweitzer, and Roger Braun. In the second Sizzling 4 feature, Brandon Otto lead all 15-laps for the win. Otto was followed by Tom Schweitzer, Wayne Sonokowsky, Cody Kippenhan, and Andy Wiese.
Jeff Wohlrabe took the lead on lap three, passing Ken Van Wychen. Craig VandeWettering, Dan Gracyalny, Mike Meyerhofer Jr, and Van Wychen rounded out the top five.
