LOGAN WINS IRA DICK WITT CHECKERED CLASSIC

9/15 Beaver Dam, WI   Ricky Logan made the long commute from Arkansas to Wisconsin payoff as he captured the Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Outlaw Sprints Dick Witt Checkered Classic at the Dodge County Fairgrounds. Logan started in the second row and took the lead on lap six and did a masterful job in traffic keeping runnerup Brooke Tatnell from attempting any last lap heroics.Logan piloted the Lucas Oil #10 to his 3rd career IRA win at his first ever appearance on the big Dodge County half-mile.

Todd King led the first five laps aboard the Christine Hartman backed #97 from his outside front row position. King looked very strong the first few laps though as the field came out of turn four on the fourth go-round, the handling on his machine seemed to go away allowing Logan to challange on the inside going into turn one. King's machine suffered front suspension failure at that time putting the car hard into the first turn concrete and upside down bringing out a lap five red.

Logan would lead on the restart of the twenty-five lap affair with Brooke Tatnell aboard the Guy Forbrook entry trailing, followed by Todd Hepfner, and Wayne Johnson. Logan would take command with Tatnell in tow. Johnson would get by Hepfner and settle into a comfortable third.

While the top trio thundered around the cushion, a tremendous battle waged just behind as Hepfner, a charging Billy Balog, Travis Whitney, Scotty Neitzel, and Mike Reinke kept the fans attention.

One minor restart for a Lance Fassbender spin didn't slow Logan as he continued to keep Tatnell four car lengths behind. Balog grabbed fourth from Hepfner, as the Whitney, Neitzel, Reinke trio traded positions throughout as IRA's top three in points used up every foot of surface.

Tatnell would close the gap to a pair of lengths at the end as he trailed Logan to the checkered. Johnson came home a comfortable third over an impressive run from Balog. Hepfner rounded out the fleet top five, as Whitney, Neitzel, and Reinke finished under a blanket finishing sixth through eighth and the last of the lead lap machines. Brian Kristan and Steve Meyer completed the top ten.

Whitney, the defending IRA Champion and current point leader paced the thirty-one car field in qualifying. Whitney leads the point chase into the last three scheduled events, with the series going trackside for a pair of dates this coming weekend, Friday September 21st in Oshkosh, WI, and Saturday the 22nd in LaSalle, IL.

IRA is an ASA affiliated series.
