MULLEN SCORES SECOND LUXEMBURG IMCA MODIFIED FEATURE WIN

(Luxemburg,WI) May 16 - Seymour's Brian Mullen fought off Mike
Mashl of De Pere in the closing laps to win his second straight 25 lap IMCA
modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.
A record 138 cars took part in the program. The field included 41 IMCA modifieds,
46 IMCA stock cars, 23 street stocks, 17 IMCA hobby stocks and 11 sport fours.
Polesitter Jared Siefert jumped out to an early lead in the contest. He began
building a lead immediately over the pack, but that margin was erased when
Art Siefert and Sean Jerovetz tangled on the fronstretch on lap three, drawing
an amber. When racing resumed Siefert maintained the lead while Brian Mullen,
Dean Maurer and RM Van Pay engaged in a three car tussle for the runnerup
spot. Mullen came out on top of that war and began chasing Siefert down when
another caution flew when Benji LaCrosse's car stalled on the backstretch.
On the restart Van Pay snuck past Siefert for the lead, while Mullen muscled
his way inside of Siefert to claim the second spot. The veteran duo proceeded
to put on a clinic over the next several laps, with Mullen taking over the
lead on lap 15. Two circuits later a Dave Zeitler spin tightened the field.
With eight laps remaining Van Pay's racer stalled on the restart, handing
the second spot on the restart to Scott Mullen, who threaded his way through
the pack from 14th. Mike Mashl squeezed past Scott Mullen for second and tailed
Brian Mullen the balance of the contest. Mullen held on for his second straight
feature win. Mashl settled for second at the pay window, followed by Scott
Mullen, Seifert and Jay Matthias. Randy LeMieux Jr., who qualified for the
main by winning one of two consolation races, charged from the back of the
pack to claim sixth.
Kewaunee's Brian Bruechert came out on top of a race long duel with Jeremy
Christians and Pat Davister to score the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature win.
Bruechert's heat win netted him a clean sweep for the evening.
Luxemburg's Larry Ingebretsen outraced Mike Weitor into the lead of the contest,
with Davister and Weitor trailing. Christians marched through the pack from
10th into third by lap six. One circuit later a Charlie Kroll spin forced
a yellow and tightened up the field.
Christians blew past Ingebretsen on the restart into the lead, with Bruechert
sliced his way from deep in the pack to wrestle second away from Davister
on lap eight. Bruechert and Christians continued to swap the lead over the
next several laps, with Bruechert sticking his racer low and Christians preferring
the high line. Davister kept the pair within striking distance all race long
to make it a three car chase right down to the wire. With five laps remaining
a caution flew when Brett Wenzel's racer caught fire, setting up a five lap
dash to the checkers.
Bruechert kept Christians and company at bay to chalk up his first feature
flag of the 2003 campaign at Luxemburg. Trailing Bruechert at the line were
Christians, Junior Karcz, Rod Snellenberger and Craig Paque.
"Dancin Lance" Arnenson of Krakow passed polesitter James Tebon
for the lead with two laps remaining to win the 20 lap street stock feature.
Arnenson also won his heat race scoring a clean sweep for the evening. After
two aborted attempts at a start the contest went the distance without a yellow.
Tebon nipped a hard charging Fred Davister at the line for second. David Baenen
and Doug Morgan rounded out the top five finishers.
Algoma's Eddie "The Eagle" Anschutz took the lead on lap four and
cruised to his second straight 15 lap IMCA hobby stock feature. Trailing Anschutz
at the checkers were Dan Davister, Tony Schlei, Joe Hegnet and Keith Kickbush.
Anschutz also scored a heat win earlier, giving him a sweep of the night's
races.
Black Creek's Greg Banker won the 15 lap sport four feature.
Next Friday night's program will be sponsored by Y 100, Don's Bakery and Salmon
Meats. IMCA modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks and four cylinder sport fours
