TWO TIME NASCAR CHAMP GARY WEBB HEADED TO LUXEMBURG
SPEEDWAY
(Luxemburg, WI) - Luxemburg Speedway track officials have announced
that Gary Webb of Blue Grass, Iowa will compete in the Seubert Calf Ranches
"Battle of The 'Burg III" Friday night, June 11.
The 40 lap feature will pay $1,750 to the winner and will feature the first
appearance of the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association (WDLMA). The series
blends together WISSOTA-style cars and UMP-type machines.
During a career spanning 34 seasons Webb, a two time NASCAR regional champion,
has racked up more than 500 career feature wins at 65 different dirt ovals
across the United States. "I love racing different tracks," said
Webb from his Iowa race shops. "I enjoy racing against new competition
and the Luxemburg payout is real solid in the middle. I think it will be worth
the six hour drive north."
Webb is known across the country as an ambassador for dirt late model racing.
Having raced for a living the past 26 years, Webb still travels with a modest,
open trailer built by his buddy and competitor Pete Parker of Kaukauna. "I've
known Pete for 25 years and I'm looking forward to racing against him,"
said Webb. "I love the open trailers. Guys nowadays get so hung up on
these big haulers. They don't win you races."
Webb has competed at several dirt tracks in Wisconsin, including Cedar Lake,
Beaver Dam, Hales Corners, Marshfield and Seymour. "We ran at Seymour
one time years ago when it was still a half-mile," Webb recalled. "I
did win at Hales Corners once, and now that track's gone. I've raced against
Gordie Seegert and Russ Scheffler many times as well. It sounds like they'll
be tough up at Luxemburg and hopefully we're ready for the challenge."
Webb pilots a number 56 GRT chassis sponsored by Intermodal Maintenance and
Rebuild.
A full program of IMCA modified, IMCA stock cars and IMCA hobby stocks is
also on tap. Gates open at 5:45 p.m. with the first race at 7 p.m. For more
