JORGENSON, COLWELL PREPARE FOR LUXEMBURG TRACK TITLE DEFENSES
By Joe Verdegan

(Luxemburg, WI) - De Pere's Tim Jorgenson and Greenleaf's Jamie Colwell can expect to have their collective hands full when they defend their respective Luxemburg Speedway track championships when the 2008 season at the third-mile, clay oval kicks off Friday night, April 18. In just two short years, Jorgenson can lay claim to a pair of track championships at Luxemburg. In 2006 Jorgenson captured the sport four track title. Jorgenson followed that up with a smashing rookie season, where he wound up beating gritty veteran Eugene Gregorich of Kewaunee by 31 points to win the IMCA northern sportmod division title.

Although word has it Gregorich has his car for sale and has no immediate plans to compete full time this year, a field of nearly 30 sportmods are expected to battle weekly. The field is led by 2007 IMCA Supernationals winner Tracy Wassenberg of Shawano. Other top contenders expected include Oconto Falls drivers Adam White and Eric Arneson, Luxemburg's Jeff Dubois and Dennis Meisler, along with Green Bay's Aaron Holiday, and Mishicot's Mark Christensen. Newcomers to the division in 2008 include Green Bay drivers Troy Jerovetz, Steve Svoboda, Troy De Grave and Nick Potts, Algoma's Jesse Kroll, Forestville's Von Etchyson, 14-year-old Reagan May of De Pere, 2007 sport four champion JJ Anderson of Pulaski and former street stock champion Fred Davister of Luxemburg.

Jamie Colwell edged out his brother Jesse Colwell by one slim point to capture the IMCA stock car division's crown, his first ever at the track. Colwell's title defense sure will not come easy, as 16 of the top twenty points finishers from last year plan on coming back, including Colwell's brother Jesse, Pulaski's "Hot Rod" Snellenberger, Kewaunee's Greg Gretz and Brian Bruechert, New Franken's Troy Muench, Forestville's "Chargin Charlie" Kroll, Maribel's Kerry Havlovetz and Ellisville's Robert Waechter.

Newcomers who'll throw their hat in ring for rookie-of-the-year honors include Kewaunee's Tyler Derenne, Brussels Brian and John Anschutz, Green Bay's Jacob Phillips, Little Chute's Mike King Jr. and former street stock driver Jerry Leary of Abrams.

The IMCA hobby stock class could very well see a new champion as titlist Jesse Kanas of Lomira plans on running on a part time basis in 2008. Among those veterans returning to vie for the crown are Luxemburg's Dave De Grave, Sturgeon Bay's Brandon Peterson, Luxemburg drivers Chad Kaminski, 2007 rookie-of-the-year Scott Boulanger, Aaron Zellner and Marcus Moede, Green Bay's Jared Van Laanen, Sobieski's Tyler Wilson and Mishicot's Dean Anhalt.

The sport four division could be a crapshoot with Anderson's moving up to the sportmods. The 2008 season will kick off Friday night, April 18 at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds, stock cars, northern sportmods, hobby stocks and sport fours will compete weekly through Labor day weekend.
