MIS E-News

Greetings MIS Fans,

The weather is really heating up and so is the action at Wisconsin's Track of Champions.

Last Friday night was Trackside Charities Night at MIS with action in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models, Bryden Motors Super Late Models, Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, and the second round of the Mid-American Super Truck Triple Crown Series. The racing was also sponsored by Construction Labor Management and it was great to have a large group on hand representing this organization.
Troy Hintzsche of Malta, Illinois, continued his very successful season by picking up his first feature win in the ASA Late Models. Thirty-one ASALM were on hand with twenty-two starting the feature. Hintzsche led wire to wire and gained points on point leader Bobby Wilberg who was forced to drop out early in the race. The night was far from a total loss for Wilberg however. Bobby came back to pick up the checkered flag in the Bryden Motors Super Late Model division where he continues to be the point leader. Ryan Goldade of Stoughton claimed top honors in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman division for the second time in 2005. This division has proven to be very competitive with five different drivers winning features so far this year. The points race is very tight...remember you can check out all of the point totals on our website. Round two of the Mid Am Super Truck Triple Crown Series was held with Mark Storlie of Elko, Minnesota making it two for two and putting him self in prime position to be the triple crown champ and pick up the bonus money. Vince Wilkinson set a new track record for the Mid Am Super Trucks that was previously set by Jason Hicks. The truck race featured a very strong run by Verona's Todd Schmitz who was off and sailing and leading the way with a tight battle for second going on behind him. Not only did a caution flag take away his advantage, but things got hot under the hood and he was forced to pull into the infield. Unfortunately for Todd his night was done, but I know there were an awful lot of people pulling for him as he jumped to the lead and held it for eighteen laps.
In addition to the racing, the Madison band Supertuesday performed in the "Concert on the Track." Trackside Charities, who had originally rented the speedway for a July 9 ASL event that was cancelled, works with several local charities. Former UW hockey coach Jeff Sauer is one of the co-founders of this group that will also be hosting upcoming concerts in Verona.

Budweiser Night is July 15
This Friday night is Budweiser Night at Madison International Speedway. Racing action will take place in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models, Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, and the Mid American Stock Car Series. This will be round two of the Triple Crown Series for the Mid Am cars. All passes, punch cards, etc. will be honored on Friday night.

Mid Season Championships are July 22
Racing action will take place in all four weekly divisions on Friday night July 22. This will also be a double points night. All passes, punch cards, etc. will be honored as well.

Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series is Coming July 29
The HOSS 410 winged sprint cars will be here on Friday night July 29 along with the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models and Bryden Motors Area Sportsman. This should be a great show as the all-time speed record was set by Columbus, Ohio's Joe Rebman last year with a lap of over 119 mph.

Racer's Reunion Set for August 5
An impressive list of former drivers is being assembled for the August 5th Racer's Reunion at MIS. Many of the past track champions and drivers from the 70's and 80's will be on hand to talk with the fans. It should be a fun night for all... more information will be coming out as the date nears. If you know of the whereabouts of some of our former racers, please contact Steve Einhaus at miseinhaus@yahoo.com.

Enduro...Demo Derby...Roll Over Contest
Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 14 when the Midwest Enduro Series returns to MIS. The last time they visited Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile nearly sixty cars took to the track along with the bright green jam truck. This year's event will be 250 laps!!! Rumor has it that MIS promoter Steve Einhaus is looking for a car for his chance to return to the track. We are also looking for competitors for the roll over contest and demolition derby. E-mail the track office and we will get you the rules. Should be a very interesting and exciting Sunday afternoon at MIS. For more information about the Midwest Enduro Series please check out their website at www.midwestenduro.com.
