*************Special Announcement************
Current USAR Hooters Pro Cup Northern Series points leader Benny Gordon of DuBois, Pennsylvania, will be at Hooters of Madison this Wednesday, August 17th starting at 6:00 PM.
Hooters of Madison is located at 6654 Mineral Point Road on the city's west side. Gordon will be signing autographs at Hooters and fans will have an opportunity to win tickets to the September 9 Miller Lite 250 for the USAR Hooters Pro Cup at Madison International Speedway.
This will also be Tribute To America Night at MIS which will include a spectacular fireworks display. Madison International Speedway will also be honoring those who serve our country: Military personnel, emergency medical technicians, fire fighters, and police officers. Members of these groups who attend the September 9 race and are in uniform will be admitted free.
Tickets for the September 9 race at MIS are currently on sale at the track office. Adult tickets are $18.00 in advance...or purchase a combination ticket for $28.00 that includes admission to the MARS special on September 2 and the Pro Cup race. See you at Hooters on Wednesday.
Racing Community Suffers a Loss
On behalf of all of us at Madison International Speedway, we would like to offer our condolences to the family of Kevin Doty who died Tuesday morning as a result of a racing accident on Sunday evening at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
Friday Night Review
On behalf of all of us at Madison International Speedway we would like to thank Werner Electric Supply and Swiss Colony for sponsoring this past week's races.
Solid car counts greeted the fans in both the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models and Bryden Motors Super Late Models with 30 and 20 cars respectively. Congratulations go out to our four feature winners: Jeff Storm in the Bryden Motors Super Late Models, Bobby Wilberg in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models, Charlie Cottam in the Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series, and Jay Kalbus in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman. Storm's win was his first of the 2005 season whereas Wilberg, Cottam, and Kalbus each notched their third victories of the year. Wilberg also continued to set the pace in qualifying.
Complete race reports are always available at our website (madisoninternationalspeedway.com) and are actually archived back many years with reports from both Kevin Ramsell and Larry and Jeanne Starr.
Notable Notes: Cottam's win was his 35th all-time Midwest Truck Series victory at Madison International Speedway.
Brooklyn's Zack Riddle scored his highest career finish when he came home in fifth place in the Swiss Colony 50.
Great to see Dave Feiler back at the speedway, who along with Jared Ziegler and Bobby Wilberg, pulled double duty in the ASALM and SLM divisions. Todd Schmitz of Verona returned to the Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series and finished third. Nice to see defending champion Scott Bleecker back in the trucks on Friday. Unfortunately for Scott his misfortunes continued when he made hard contact with the truck of Bryan Pautsch on the backstretch. Gary Pilo returned to MIS in the super late models after a three year absence.
Midwest Enduro Series Returns to MIS
This past Sunday Madison International Speedway hosted the Midwest Enduro Series. A total of forty-five cars took to Wisconsin's Track of Champions. It was a good day of racing with many of the drivers making their first-ever appearance at MIS. The series is structured such that there are three divisions (A,B,C) racing at the same time. You can check out the results at midwestenduro.com. A roll over contest and demolition derby were also held. Remnants of the demolition derby can be seen in the infield on Friday night.
Wilberg Could Do What No Driver Has Done Before at Madison
Bobby Wilberg may accomplish something that no other driver has done in the history of the speedway: Win two track championships in one season. Wilberg has a 189 point lead over Jeff Storm in the Bryden Motors Super Late Models and now leads Nathan Haseleu by over 100 points in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models. With only two point shows remaining, Wilberg is solidy on his way to taking home two championships. Everything will be decided on Season Championship Night on August 26 which is sponsored by First Supply.
Barber and DePorter Lead Trucks and Sportsman Dann Barber of Oregon leads Charlie Cottam by a 668-620 margin for the points championship in the Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series. The closest race of the four divisions is occurring in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman where Fort Atkinson's Mark DePorter holds a narrow 903-886 margin. This championship will definitely come down to the final night. DePorter's lead is even more amazing when you consider he missed a couple of nights early in the season.
This Week at MIS
Friday night August 19 is Star Packaging Night at Madison International Speedway with racing action in all four divisions. Only two point shows remain on the 2005 racing schedule. "We are very grateful to have Star Packaging as our title sponsor on the 19th. I am very impressed with their commitment to the entire racing community and we are looking forward to working with them in the future," commented promoter Steve Einhaus.
Season Championships Set for August 26
Mark your calendars for Friday night August 26 when First Supply presents the 2005 Season Championships. Track champions will be crowned in all four divisions. We are hoping to have an on track autograph and photo session for all four divisions on Season Championships Night. More information will be shared this Friday night during the drivers' meeting.
Major Super Late Model Event Scheduled for September 2
The Midwest All-Star Racing Series (MARS) returns to Wisconsin's Track of Champions on Friday, September 2. "We are expecting a great car count for this event which will be highlighted by a 100 lap feature," said promoter Steve Einhaus. Nearly forty cars were on hand for the last visit by the cars from MARS which was won by Kimberly's Jeff Van Oudenhoven. In addition to the MARS event, it will also be the third round of the Mid Am Super Truck Triple Crown Series. Mark Storlie of Elko, Minnesota, leads the points chase thanks to winning the first two legs of the series. Trucks from throughout the midwest are expected for this event.
Hooters Pro Cup Miller Lite 250 Set for September 9-Tribute to America and Fireworks
Excitement is building in anticipation of the first-ever visit by the USAR Hooters Pro Cup and the running of the Miller Lite 250 on Friday night, September 9. The drivers are very excited about coming to MIS and we are looking forward to this event. Thank You Drivers, Crews, Owners, Sponsors, and Fans
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have loyally supported Madison International Speedway in the 2005 season. We have a wonderful racing community that makes MIS the special place it is week in and week out.
Behind the Scenes at MIS
Announcing the races has been an enjoyable experience for both Pete Pistone and myself. One of the great benefits of our job is being able to work with an outstanding group of men who make the whole show possible. I have much respect for our chief scorer John Kamenick, scorers Darrell Panzer and Andy Vogel, scoreboard operator Mike Wilson, and chaplain / scorer Todd Christopherson. These guys do a great job each week. Things happen on the track very quickly and it is their job to try to sort everything out. Great job guys!!!
Our flagman, Arnie Thompson, is probably the most imitated of our track officials. Arnie does a heck of a job for us each and every week and even has his own fan club of young flaggers. Our corner workers and everyone in the pits are some of the best around...racing would not be possible without them. Next week we'll take another look around the track behind the scenes.
A special thanks to our track safety crew and the Oregon Fire Department and EMS. Also hats off to the group at Seitz Towing for all they do.
First Supply Charity Challenge
Over $1300.00 has been raised for local charities so far as part of our First Supply Charity Challenge. All of the money will go to local charities that benefit children. Please make your donations at the speedway up through August 26. Once again we would like to thank Mike Miller of First Supply, Tech Stain Remover, and Quaker Steak and Lube for their support of the charity challenge. Race teams are encouraged to get involved in this charity challenge.
Looking Ahead for 2006
With less than a month to go in the 2005 racing season at Madison International Speedway, promoter Steve Einhaus is already working on next year's schedule and racing program. We will be updating the media regarding the schedule and other changes via email press releases. Fans you can keep up to date with all of the exciting MIS news through the MIS E-News. Anyone interested in sponsoring events at the track or bringing in a group for an outing are urged to contact the office early. Exciting things are definitely on tap for 2006 at Wisconsin's Track of Champions.
