MIS E-News
March 2006
by John Wells

Start your engines! All of us at MIS are counting down the days to the start of a very exciting 2006 mracing season. The action gets going on Saturday, April 29 with the first of our two preseason practice sessions. On-track practice will run from noon until 5:00 on the 29th and on May 6th.

If mother nature cooperates we are hoping to have the paving completed on the new quarter mile in early April. If you haven't already done so, you can check out the construction pictures from the fall at our website.

It's going to be a great season at MIS. The new track, new start time, new divisions, and a visit from Matt and Tony. Truly, we offer something for everyone.

Our best source of advertising is you...the race teams and fans. Please tell your friends and co-workers about MIS and short track racing in general. We need to work together to see this sport continue to thrive at the local level.

The AMB transponders are here. You can go directly to our website store and order them.

The April 29th practice will be the safety inspection and ASALM Certification Day. We will open the gates at 7:30 AM for those needing to get certified. Those who have already had the redundant cup seals (redundant Cup seals installed on top of the manufacturer Seals) installed on their motors at a certified rebuilder do not have to get inspected. All cars will be verified before they are allowed to practice.

Note: April 29th will be the only certification day for ASA Cars. If you are not certified on or before this day, you will not be allowed to compete on May 12th. Please notify Steve Einhaus (630-212-6022) or Tech Director Ken Lund (608-443-9297) if you cannot attend on the 29th and we'll make arrangements to visit your race shop.

Tires and Fuel- We will announce very soon when Tires and Fuel will be available for sale. We are expected to get both shipments during the first week of April. MIS welcomes Torco Racing Fuel as the fuel of Choice at MIS. "This fuel is some of the best stuff that I have ever seen and the quality of the fuel is remarkable," said promoter Steve Einhaus. It will be the ASALM Mach 110 special blend that is legal in the ASALM Series and can be used by all divisions throughout the area. MIS will be the only supplier of this fuel in the Midwest besides the series itself. Please notify Steve Einhaus via phone or email if you have a drum that needs to be filled or returned.

Area Sportsman tires should be arriving this week with tires for the other divisions arriving in early April. Contact Dave Grueneberg with any tire questions.

All divisions will have a Safety inspection required on April 29th or May 6th.

Racers and MIS: Partners in Promoting

The bottom line is this: We want your experience at Madison International Speedway to be very positive. Here's how we are trying to help:

Weekly Driver Feature: We will be featuring a driver profile in each of our newsletters this year...please get me your information. The more our over 2000 newsletter recipients know about you the better...who knows, there might be a potential sponsor out there! The features may also be included in our point sheets during the summer if space allows.

On-line Registration: Be sure to take advantage of our on-line registration program where you can register for memberships, season pit passes, pit stalls, points funds, rookie of the year status, and more. You can even pay your fees on-line. This will prevent you having to take time to take care of this when you arrive at the track on April 29 or May 6.

Promotional Opportunities: MIS will work with you to help you promote your race team. If you are planning a special event such as a promotional appearance at one of your sponsors, we can help. Let us know when and where and we will work with you.

Yearbook Photos: This year we want to include head shots of all of our drivers to be included in the 2006 yearbook. We are hoping our track photographer, Doug, will be able to catch most of you during the two practice sessions.

Website: We are looking at the possibilities of including driver features and website links on our website. Once again, you need to get us this information.

Meet the Driver Nights: In 2006 we want to get our race teams in the grandstands to meet the fans. We will be inviting different divisions up to the VIP pavillion for weekly "Meet the Driver" sessions.

MIS Welcomes Holly Coley

All of us at Madison International Speedway would like to welcome Holly Coley of McFarland to the MIS team. Holly will be responsible for marketing and sales and is no stranger to MIS. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in a degree inBusiness Administration / Marketing. She loves racing and has been attending races at MIS for several years with her husband, Tim. She was married in July of 2005 and had this to say about MIS:

"I love MIS and would never miss a race if I could help it. Heck, Tim and I had our rehearsal after-party there. I’m really excited to be part of the track and to help it succeed and grow. I look forward to the people I will be working with. They seem very fun-loving and easy-going!"

MIS Takes Active Role at Kids Expo

Madison International Speedway was on hand at the recent Kids Expo at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Information sheets and schedules were handed out to thousands of fans. Great to have Dave, Diane, Chuck, and Austin on hand along with Todd Schmitz who signed autographs.

The one thing that impressed visitors to the MIS booth was the fact that kids eleven and under are free at MIS. There are not many sports venues that can make that claim! MIS is truly a great place for families.

Believe it or not, there are still a lot of people out there who are surprised to hear about MIS. Help us get the word out!

Weekly MIS Driver Feature: Jordan Hill

Seventeen year old Jordan Hill of Black Earth, Wisconsin, will be one of many young drivers taking on Wisconsin's Fastest Half Mile when he makes his debut in the limited late model division.

The junior from Wisconsin Heights High School in Mazomanie, Wisconsin, has a variety of racing experience from go-karts to Bandits and is no stranger to victory lane and is very goal-oriented. After high school, he hopes to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison and major in Mechanical Engineering.

Jordan has many goals for the upcoming season at MIS. He is going to compete for Rookie of the Year in the division with a goal of finishing in the top ten in points. But it's two of his other goals that indicate how focused Jordan is regarding his racing aspirations: Earning the respect of his fellow competitors and gaining valuable experience that he can use throughout his career. MIS is definitely the place to achieve these goals.

Last season Jordan primarily focused on car set-up and the behind the scenes aspects of racing by helping the Willman Racing team at the Dells Motor Speedway and working with Kevin Tunks and Tunks Racing.

In 2004, Jordan raced at the Jefferson Speedway in both the International and Bandit divisions winning one race in the International division. In 2003 in the Bandit division he won three races and became one of the youngest drivers ever to go to victory lane at Jefferson in just his fifth start. The 2002 season found Jordan racing at the Sugar River Raceway in Brodhead, Wisconsin.

The Hill Racing team is looking for sponsors for the 2006 racing season at MIS. You can contact them at dhill.ies@tds.net

The Chaplain's Corner

We were able to go south for some time this month and it really got the racing bug going for me. How about you? Are you ready for the season to get underway at Madison International Speedway?

I don't know about you, but I start gathering my racing things together and checking to see if they all still work. Of course, the racers and teams have been working on their cars and now they should be down to the fine tuning things. Checking the small things, the details.

Think about the test sessions at the Cup level. The cars are gray in color. Just a numbers on the side. Then a few weeks later they are bright in color and logos everywhere on the car. In a test session the team is not concerned about the out side of the car. They want to see how the inside is working.

It reminds me of what God is concerned with. He looks inside of us and wants to see a heart and life devoted to Him. A life that is broken and placing the Lord first in everything. God is concerned about what we look like to others but He wants that to be a reflection of the inside. It all starts with bowing before Him and calling out on Him to save us and then knowing and growing in Him and His Word.

So what does God see in your heart?

Thanks for reading and hope to see you soon at a track and have a great day in the Sonshine, todd

Predictions for 2006???

Who will win the coveted ASA Late Model title in 2006? Will Bobby Wilberg repeat and can he win two titles again this season? The change to the quarter mile will bring out more of the top Area Sportsman drivers and is sure to be a very competitive field in 2006. The return of the limited late model division has already seen many of the top drivers in the area indicate their intentions of running for the championship. The hobby stocks and bandits are sure to bring out large fields with diverse backgrounds in racing.

In an upcoming MIS E-News, you will have your chance to pick the winners for 2006.

That's all for this week...look forward to weekly newsletters beginning in April.
