Attention Race Fans!!!
Welcome to another edition of the free MIS E-News. With the season just around the corner we want to encourage all of you to tell your friends about MIS. This is going to be a spectacular year at the speedway with many changes occurring highlighted by the installation of the new quarter-mile that will bring two new weekly racing divisions to the track. The schedule will offer something for all racing fans...it's going to be an awesome year!
Physical Improvements Continue at MIS
Madison International Speedway will be a very busy place in the upcoming weeks in preparation for the 2006 season opener on May 7. The front stretch wall and fencing from the flag stand to turn four has been removed and the cement work will be done this week. A new flag stand will also be going in later this month. Back stretch banking / grading on the new quarter-mile will also be completed this week along with some cleaning up in the pit area.
Practice / Inspection Dates Set
Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 29 and Saturday, May 6 as these days have been set aside for practice and inspection days. The pits will open at 7:30 AM on the 29th. This will be a safety inspection day for all cars and redundant certification day for ASALM engines. We are opening the pits early to allow for extra time to complete the safety checks. On-track action will take place from Noon - 5:00 PM for any car planning on racing at MIS. On May 6th practice will also take place from Noon-5:00 PM.
Battle of the Bandits and Hobby Stock Showdown Coming to MIS
We are excited about having the Bandits and Hobby Stocks part of the racing program in 2006. MIS has just announced that two special events for both divisions will take place on Saturday, May 13 and Friday, May 26. The Hobby Stock Showdown will pay $250.00 to win each night with Battle of the Bandits paying $200.00 to win each night. The overall point winner in both divisions will also receive a trophy. "We are looking forward to seeing more drivers have the opportunity to race at MIS. The interest we have received in these divisions has been very positive and we wanted to offer them a special racing event," said promoter Steve Einhaus.
Off to a Fast Start...The Month of May Sets the Tone for an Exciting 2006
The 2006 racing season gets started in grand fashion with a variety of events scheduled for the month of May.
The season opener is set for Sunday, May 7 when the Wisconsin Challenge Series makes their MIS debut. There is no question that this series has emerged as one of the top super late model circuits in the midwest and a large car count is expected. "This is going to be a major event and we're excited to have them for our opener," said promoter Steve Einhaus. The WCS already has one race in the books as Steve Rubeck captured the win at the Rockford Speedway. Also on the racing program for the opener will be the Area Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Bandits.
The Friday night opener will take place on May 12 with action in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models, Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models, Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Bandits. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 5:00 with qualifying at 6:45 and racing at 7:30. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00.
The first of two "Night of Destruction" events is scheduled for Saturday, May 13. This will also be the first round of the Hobby Stock Showdown and Battle of the Bandits. Here's what you can expect to see:
Nationally known Stuntman Tommy "Trubble" Mctague blast through a wall of fire at over 50ft in the air and at 55mph while smashing into a field of cars. Benny the Bomb Koske who has appeared on Jay Leno's show. Benny literally blows himself up inside of a normal everyday car and walks away unscathed.
The Monster Truck "Chicago Outlaw as he smashes everything in his way.
The world's largest Jet Engine "Outhouse."
The world's largest and fastest Jet Engine Tow Truck.
Also, enjoy a night of Blindfold races, the popular "Gauntlet Race, and most of all, The Street Drags! The first 8 entries will be taken and matched for those who are interested in racing their street car on the 1/4 mile.
All five divisions will also be in action on Friday, May 19. This will also be the first of three rounds for the Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models.
The racing program will take on a very different look on Friday, May 26 as the speedway will be hosting an open practice session for ASA Late Model cars from 5:00 - 10:00 PM. These cars will be practicinig in anticipation for the Miller Lite 200 ASA Late Model Challenge Series race on Saturday, May 27.
The race program will also mark the second round of the Hobby Stock Showdown and Battle of the Bandits.
The Miller Lite 200 ASA Late Model Challenge Series will take to the track on Saturday night the 27th. A large field of cars is expected for this race including many of our weekly ASALM competitors. Also in action on the 27th will be the Midwest Super Truck Series.

Driver Feature: Mike Storkson
Information provided by Storkson Racing
In 2003 and 2004 Mike "The Spike" Storkson raced in the bandit division at Jefferson and Columbus 151 Speedways, winning seven heat races, one feature and consistently finishing races in the top of the field. He finished 9th in points at Columbus and 18th in points at Jefferson, even though he did not race the full season at either track due to car difficulties. Because of these problems Spike was awarded the Hard Luck Award from Columbus Speedway. This award is voted on by the other drivers at the track, for the person they feel has had a good season, but one that has been filled with hard times.
In 2005 Spike moved up to the Hobby stock division running seasons at both tracks. Spike raced in the Summer Rumble which is two straight nights of racing where the driver with the best two finishes is the champion. Spike came out on top with a win at Columbus and a 5th at Jefferson and was named the 2005 Hobby Stock Summer Rumble Champion. A feat that had never been attainted by a rookie driver before. Although he did not run a full season Spike finished 7th in points at Columbus with 2 heat wins, a fast time, 2 feature wins, and again performing at the top of the field consistently. Overall he had 14 heat race top 5 finishes, and 8 feature top 5 finishes. Spike also attended the National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway. This high-banked quarter mile oval is a difficult track, but Spike did well with a 5th place finish in the feature.
In the 2006 season Spike plans to run a full season at Madison International Speedway in the Hobby Stock division. Additionally he will run a partial season at both Columbus 151 Speedway and Jefferson Speedway.

The Chaplain's Corner
by Todd Christopherson
A few weeks ago I was at a church speaking to the youth group. I was talking to them about racing and I happen to have an ASA Late Model Series Rulebook with me. I showed them the 20 plus page rule book and how detailed it is. That the book even shows the driver where the uniform patches go. I let them know that the teams and drivers follow the rules closely because they want the check and points at the end of the night and season. If they do not follow the rules they loss out on that.
Then I reminded them that we need to pay that much attention to God's Word. God did not suggest the 10 Commandments, He does not suggest the way to Heaven, He does not suggest how we are to live. Instead He makes it as clear as the rules of math. There is "a" answer to 1+1. It is 2. Just like God's way to Heaven (John 14:6; Rom 3:23; 6:23; 10:9,10) is clear and He does want us to know adn follow His rule book, the Bible. So I hope that you take a minute each day to look into the Bible.
I hope that that you are getting ready for the Winner's Circle. And have a great racin' in the SONshine,
As always feel free to contact me at torch_for_jesus@yahoo.com or 608-846-8493
That's all for this week...see you at the races!
