American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Power Equipment Comes to MIS This Friday

One of the most-anticipated events of the 2007 racing season comes to Madison International Speedway this Friday night when the Tour comes to Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile.

It will be a full day of racing and fun at MIS with practice sessions beginning at 1:00 PM. Come see the best super late model drivers in the Midwest due battle in a 100 lap feature. It’s going to be a tough feature field to make as the list of drivers coming looks like a “Who’s Who” of short track racing.

See NASCAR stars Kyle Busch, Johnny Sauter, Tim Sauter, along with local legends Rich Bickle Jr., a two-time track champion, and Dick Trickle, the winningest driver ever at Madison with 72 feature wins to his credit. Former NASCAR Southeast champion JR Norris of Hueytown, Alabama, will be making his first appearance at MIS.

However the list of talented drivers does not end there. The American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Power Equipment also features a group of Kwik Trip touring stars representing tracks from throughout the Midwest. These drivers include Kenny Richards of Montello, Wisconsin,
Dan Fredrickson of Elko,Minnesota, Nathan Haseleu of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, Rod Wheeler of Hortonville, Wisconsin, Josh Vadnais of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Brad Mueller of Random Lake, Wisconsin, former MIS track champion Dave Feiler of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Donny Reuvers of Dundas, Minnesota, Adam Royle of Farmington, Minnesota, Steve Carlson of West Salem, Wisconsin, Travis Sauter of Sauk City, Wisconsin, and Jamie Iverson of Escanaba, Michigan. “Our driver list proves that experience is what makes you successful. Our events have had very few cautions and the amount of driving experience is unreal. Just count up the number of track championships amongst our group and you’ll be amazed,”commented Steve Einhaus of the ASA Midwest Tour.

The July 20th event at Madison International Speedway will be part of th e “Summer Shootout Series.” According to series vice president Steve Einhaus, “We have put together a fantastic group of NASCAR drivers to compete in the series this summer and it gives our fans a wide variety of entertainment value…the list of drivers that will be racing with us shows how important it is to them to help everyone stay successful. We are honored that they chose our series and especially happy to pass it along to each race track.”

Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance by going to the Madison International Speedway website at madisoninternationalspeedway.com. Fans will save money by purchasing tickets in advance and Click n Print is going to pick five (5) random fans and a guest who have purchased advance tickets and automatically upgrade them to the VIP area on race day. This is also a charity event for Wisconsin Special Olympics thanks to Kwik Trip Stores. “Fans are really going to be in for a treat,”commented Einhaus.

The limited late models and INEX Legends will also be in action. This will be a points race for the limited late models. Please note the schedule as practice and qualifying will be at different times than a normal Friday night.

Meet Johnny Sauter on Thursday Night

NASCAR star Johnny Sauter will be at Suburban Wheels on Thursday night to meet and greet racing fans. Suburban Wheels is located at Stoughton Road and East Washington Avenue on Madison's east side. Sauter will be there from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Friday Night Rewind

Congratulations to feature winners Andrew Morrissey, Brady Liddle, Bobby Selsing Jr., Blake Brown, and Jesse Bernhagen.

Madison Late Model Notes

Great run by Andrew Morrissey to win the 50 lap feature. Jeremy Lepak checked away from the field early before Bobby Wilberg took over the lead. Morrissey took the lead on lap 39 and led the rest of the way to pick up his second win of the season. Dan "Rocket Man" Lensing made his first appearance of the season with ABC Supply team.

Limited Late Model Notes

Brady Liddle picked up his first win of the season by holding off Scott Broughton and Bobby Wilberg. Liddle, who was second on July 6, seems to be getting stronger each week. He's picked up a few heat wins and three straight Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash victories. Brady can also claim honors for creating the most tire smoke as he entertained the crowd after his win.

Scott Broughton continues to lead the points but his advantage over Wilberg diminished after he spun while going for the lead on the last lap. Scott races hard and he was going for the win...that's what it's all about.

Great run by Cliff Rucks who finished fourth and led the early part of the race. Todd Schmitz finished fifth in his best feature of the season. Great to have Tim Noble back at the track as he made his first appearance of the season.

Bandit Notes

Bobby Selsing Jr. led start to finish in the twenty lap feature. It was a very competitive field of Bandits with Mark Dewey making his first appearance of the season. Steve Dickson continues to lead the points with Selsing now up to second. A lot of work took place this week at the Skolaski stable in gettng their car back out to the track after last week's head on with the wall.

Legends and Bandoleros Notes

Blake Brown is on a roll in the Legends as he picked up his second win at MIS to go along with wins at the Milwaukee Mile. Blake is also running a Mid Am car at Grundy when he's not at MIS.

Recent wrecks have put some of the Bandoleros on the mend, but Jesse Bernhagen and Aaron Moyer sure put on a great race with Bernhagen winning for the second time in 2007.

Both Blake and Jesse appear to have fine racing futures in whatever they decide to race.

Celebrity Race

Justin Brown of WJVL in Janesville won the Celebrity race. Of course I didn't see much of this race as I was sitting in my car in the pits since it would not start. Once it started I was able to at least get in a lap! Scotty and I had fun and hope to get out on the track very soon. Both of us have a greater appreciation for the real racers who take to the track each week.

A big thank you to the Skolaski team for all of their help in making these races possible.

Thanks Jim Steinke

We would like to thank Jim Steinke for taking over the announcing duties on Friday night while Scotty and I got in some hot laps after qualifying was over. Jim also handled the rest of the MLM feature while Scotty and I waited for what seemed forever in the pits.

Thanks to Pomp's Tires for choosing MIS for their company outing. It looked like their group of 300 had a great time at the track enjoying good food and drink.

MIS is a great place for company outings. Contact Holly for more information...835.9700.

Doubleheader Weekend at MIS Coming Up

July 27th and 28th will be a doubleheader of action at Madison International Speedway.

It's JP Cullen and Sons Night on July 27th with the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Models, Big Eight Series for Limited Late Models, Roto Rooter Bandits, and AST / International Four Cylinders.

On Saturday, July 28th, Pepsi presents Open Wheel Night with the USAC Regional Midgets, Ford Focus Midgets, Kenyon Midgets, Rascal Outlaws, and the Formula Indy Racing Association all in action.

Wayne's Custom DIECAST Hard Chager and Dash Series Update

Here's an update provided by Wayne Forsythe of Wayne's Custom DIECAST.

Scott Broughton is the current leader in the Wayne's Custom DIECAST Hard Charger points through racing on 7/6/07 with 40 points. Following Broughton are Ryan Goldade with 30 points, and Bobby Wilberg with 23 points.

The Trophy Dash Series leader is Brady Liddle with 654 points followed by Broughton with 577, Wilberg with 489, and Johnny Baumeister with 436. Four events of the series have been completed.

Rookie of the Year Update

In order to qualify for rookie of the year status a driver must meet the following criteria: 1) Has not participated in more than five races in the division prior to this year or raced in a similar division at another track. 2) Has not raced in a similar division or a "higher" division. Example...a current or former super late model driver in a MLM or LLM.

Current rookie of the year standings at Madison International Speedway show Michael Pickens leading in the Madison Late Models with Zach Reining in second place. Ryan Goldade leads the way in the Limited Late Models followed by Michael Bilderback. In the Bandits Alex Lee is the leading ROY candidate followed by Ryan Slater.

Hobby Stocks at MIS

If any hobby stock drivers are interested in racing at MIS this season we have two dates available: July 27 and August 31. We need at least 12 cars to commit before it will be officially on the schedule. The hobby stocks will also be part of the MIS Fall Classic on Friday, September 21st.

Thanks to Mike Storkson for his recruiting efforts.

The Chaplain's Corner
by Todd Christopherson

Hello to all,
Sounds like everyone was safe this week. That is good to hear. We are praying for the Dorsey family and their lost. We are thinking about you Jaime.

So we were at Chicago and Matt says at one point, "Oops, guess I should not have done that." He had missed the mark and gone high and almost into the wall.

It reminded me of a couple of things.

One, we do miss the mark and it gets us sideways. Missing the mark of God is sin and we have to correct it right away. That is confessing the sin (to God), asking forgiveness (from the Lord and if we offended a person them too) and turning away from it (repent).

Also, some things I just say, "oops" when I sin. I need to do more then that. I have broke God's law. I/we need to take it seriously.

And lastly, I thought about hope close I have been to crashing and burning due to the bad choices I have made. God has shown me a great amount of grace and mercy that I do not deserve.

See you Friday and have a great day racin' in the SONshine,
Todd

That's all for now. See you at the races.
