MIS E-News
April 27, 2007
by John Wells
Greetings MIS Fans,
It's that exciting time of year when the peaceful countryside in the Town of Rutland comes alive with exciting racing action. A lot of things have transpired over the off season and it's definitely time to go racing.
As one of over 1,000 MIS E-News recipients I would like to encourage you to stop and say hi when you come to the track. MIS is a great place to meet people and no doubt many long lasting friendships started as a result of a visit to MIS. We are hoping to have some informal get togethers on race nights along with some
contests for those who receive the MIS E-News so keep posted.
This year I would like to challenge each and every one of you to bring a new fan or fans with you to MIS whenever you come to the races. The sport needs new
fans and too many people are content to just sit back and watch racing on television. Sure, there's a place for that, but it can't replace the excitement of live racing. Once people come to MIS they definitely will want to come back. Let's face it...happy fans are the best source of advertising. By the way please encourage your friends to sign up for the MIS E-News by going to our website.
And when you bring the new fans to MIS be sure to take some time to explain some of those insider tips you might have as to how to watch a race...things to look
for and so on.
MIS is truly a family friendly track and we encourage families to come out and enjoy what is the best short track racing you'll find anywhere. The MIS Kids Club
continues to grow and you'll be interested in reading what Chuck West has done during the off season. By the way...how many sports venues can you think of
today where kids eleven and under are admitted free of charge. Professional or college sports?......but it's how we do it at MIS.
Of course your feedback is always welcome. We want to be the best we can be and we need your help. Please don't hesitate to email me at mismedia2@yahoo.com.
Practice Set for Saturday, April 28th
It's time for the cars to take to the track at MIS after a long and silent winter. Pit gates will open on Saturday, April 28th at 10:00 AM with on-track practice slated to begin at Noon with the track remaining open until 5:00 PM. All cars and trucks planning on racing at MIS in 2007 are welcome. The grandstand gates will be open with free admission to watch practice.
However, there are a couple of important reminders for anyone planning on coming to practice on Saturday. Please note that an open practice session is also
scheduled for May 5th.
Pit passes are $10.00 each day.
All driver information sheets must be completed before you will be allowed to practice.
Track photographers will be on hand on Saturday, April 28th to take pictures of drivers for our 2007 MIS Yearbook.
And here's a very important message from tech director Ken Lund.
To all competitors who will be participating in the opening practice days at MIS, April 28 and May 5. Before anyone will be allowed on the track it will be necessary for all cars to pass a mandatory safety inspection. When you arrive at the track, please have your seat upholstery removed or loose so the tech people can inspect the seat mounting. Anything you could do to make the inspection process go smoother will be beneficial to all.
We will be inspecting cars as they arrive to the tech building in no particular order. We will be limiting our inspection process to safety items only with other
tech inspections taking place before our first event.
Myself, Dave Oswald, and Bobby Stough will be in charge of the inspections and issuing stickers which will allow cars to practice. If you have questions this season regarding your racecar or about your class you can go to the following people for answers or help with your questions. Kenny Lund=Madison Late Models, Dave Oswald=Limited Late Models, and Bobby Stough=Bandits. We will all be available to tech any division but those are the people in charge of that
particular class of car.
We also have a new tech person this season who will be helping out doing various things as she gets acquainted with the MIS staff and racers. Her name is Teresa Verburgt and she is a student at the University in Madison.
It would also be helpful if drivers would bring their suit, helmet, etc., with them so they can be inspected also. Please remember, no one will practice without first being inspected. Please be patient and everyone will have a safe day of practice. We look forward to seeing all of you again.
Thanks and good luck this season at MIS.
Kenny Lund, Tech Director.
Let's Go Racing...Let the Green Flag Wave
Madison International Speedway promoter Dave Grueneberg can't help but be excited about the 2007 season opener set for Sunday, May 6th. "We've spent a
lot of time getting everything ready from putting our schedule together, getting the facility in shape, and basically making sure everything is set to go. Now it's time to go racing!" And what a fantastic show Grueneberg has lined up for the opener.
Highlighting the racing program will be the Wisconsin Challenge Series (WCS) featuring some of the top super late model drivers in the midwest. "The WCS contests at MIS last season were exciting and dynamic, with last lap passes and some wild racing taking place. No doubt this season will again provide racing action for all fans to enjoy," said WCS series director Jeff Sachse.
Who could forget last year's thrilling finish. Nathan Haseleu appeared to be on his way to win his fifth straight WCS event as he led Dave Feiler and Steve
Carlson going into the final lap. With a lapped car low on the track the two leaders were forced to go by on the high side coming out of turn four. Unfortunately for Haseleu and Feiler they made hard contact with the wall opening the door for Carlson who took the checkered flag in one of the memorable finishes in MIS history.
Will 2007 bring the same type of excitement? A strong field of drivers is expected to take on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile led by Steve Rubeck of Cherry Valley, Illinois, who won the WCS opener at the Rockford Speedway in April. "Just like last season Rubeck won the season opening contest so I'd expect he
would be near the top," added Sachse. Rubeck is no stranger to MIS where he finished third in super late model points in 2005. "Of course defending champion
Nathan Haseleu of Marshall, Wisconsin, should be a factor as well as Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, driver Mark Eswein who has won two series titles and is currently second in points," noted Sachse.
The competition for the WCS Pepsi 100 is going to be very strong. MIS is the only track where a driver has come from winning a qualifying race and then charged from the back of the pack to win the main event. Dave Feiler of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, did that in the WCS event in May of 2006.
It's anybody's guess who will take the checkered flag in 2007.
Also on the racing program for the 2007 season opener at MIS will be the Central States Super Cups and the Roto Rooter Bandits who will be racing on the quarter mile. According to Grueneberg, "We are going to be featuring a wide variety of divisions on the quarter mile in 2007. Of course the Roto Rooter Bandits will be our weekly quarter mile division, but we're also looking forward to divisions like the Super Cups, Bandoleros, Legends, and more. We're going provide
the opportunity for a lot of drivers to race at MIS this season."
Pit gates will open at 9:00 AM with grandstand gates opening at 11:00 AM. Hot laps will get started at 11:30 AM with WCS qualifying slated for 1:30 PM.
Racing action is set to begin at 2:30 PM.
Grandstand admission for the season opener will be $12.00 for adults, $8.00 for students, and eleven and under free.

Exciting Happenings at MIS Turn Four Kids Club News from Chuck West
Chuck West is a man on a mission. His goal is to make the MIS Turn Four Kids' Club the best in the midwest and he's well on his way to taking that honor. Here's what's new for the kids in 2007:
1) The exciting things happening for "MIS Turn 4 Kids Club" is the addition of a fantastic playground. We are transforming the area directly behind the clubhouse into a 30' X 80' playground. This area will contain the bounce-house, picnic tables and climbing/sliding/swinging "Castle Series" playground from Rainbow Play Systems.
2) This year, at every "Regular Race Night" we will be giving away a bicycle to one lucky "MIS Turn 4 Kids Club" member. Not just one bike, BUT, one every
regular race night courtesy of some great friends at TD Automotive in Stoughton.
3) We have TONS of smaller prizes to give away as well. Including; RC Cars, Games, Coloring Boards, Sandbox Toys, Cameras, Pizzas, and much, much more.
4) We have added "State Fair Mini Donuts" to the snack items in the clubhouse as well as some really cool items in the Ice Cream products. Of course, we will
still be making "Cotton Candy on a stick at every event.
5) Every "MIS Turn 4 Kids Club " member will receive an official Membership card and an official "MIS Turn 4 Kids Club" T-shirt.
We have also started something new which is the "MIS Fan-mily Experience". This will greatly expand the enjoyment for fan families. There will be lots of
things happening for our fans and their families.
1) We will be holding "Recliner Races" for the families three times this season. Details can be found on our website at www.madisoninternationalspeedway.com
. The participants will race their racing recliner against other fan families. What is really cool about all of this is that our friends at Jensen Furniture in Stoughton have agreed to sponsor these events. We will guarantee a purse for each race, with the purse for the final event being guaranteed at $300.00 to be spilt between the top 5 competitors for each race. We can even help participants find an old recliner to build into a Racin' Recliner.
2) We will also be holding a "Big Wheel" race this season as well as 2 "BIG $$$$ Coin Drops for the younger fans.
3) We will be honoring a Fan Family three times this season by making the lucky family the "MIS VIP Family" for the evening. They will get to see how the scoring
tower works and how we do time trials, then we will escort them to the pit area to watch what goes on during tech inspection and what happens at the drivers
meeting. Finally, the family will be able to enjoy the evenings races from one of our Skybox Suites. One member of the family gets to drop the green flag for one of the feature events.
In all, it looks like we are in for a great season for "MIS Turn4 Kids Club" and the "MIS Fan-mily Experience". SO, Fan-milies, "Start Your Engines", It's time to go racin' at Wisconsin's Fastest Half Mile, Madison International Speedway.
Families can download a sign-up sheet for MIS Turn 4 Kids Club and contact us for sign-up for "Recliner Races" at our website.
The Chaplain's Corner
by Todd Christopherson, MIS Track Chaplain
Once again we are very delighted to have Todd Christopherson with us at MIS. Todd is a remarkable man who truly walks the walk and talks the talk when it comes to his Christian faith. Todd is the first one to check on a driver who may have been in an accident and always puts others first. He's one of those guys who make it fun to come to work on race nights. Here's what Todd has to say this week:
"So I was thinking about the race season being right around the corner at MIS. I am ready for it to start. To get going and see what is going to happen, the excitement of the races and to see friends. Are you ready? It got me praying for you, many be name and for your families. I how you and I look forward to are walk with Christ that much. That we can not wait to get the day started to spend time in His Word and in prayer and with others. To see what God has for us.
Then I started to think about what I really look forward to. Eternity. Being with the Lord and worshiping Him and understanding His holiness. That really gets me excited and I pray you to and that no one misses that. So I can't wait to see you and again if I can pray for you or help you understand God's Word and an issue,
PLEASE just ask."
