MIS E-News
Week of July 7, 2008
By John Wells
Here is the latest news from Madison International Speedway.
Our sympathies go out to Scott and Mike Miller whose mother passed away on Sunday.
Get well wishes go out to Bob Schmelzer. We are hoping to see Bob back at the gate on Friday night. Bobs son, Gary, took over his duties this past Friday. Gary is a local racing historian who has notebooks of information dating all the way back to 1973.
Get well wishes also to Wayne Forsythe who has been a bit under the weather lately.
Happy birthday to MIS pace truck driver Tim Coley.
This Week at MIS
Plan to be at Madison International Speedway this Friday night for Construction Labor Management Night featuring the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models, Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends, Roto Rooter Bandits, International Four Cylinders, and American Short Trackers. The Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models have the night off due to a Big 8 Series event.
Highlighting the evenings events will be a 50 lap feature for the super late models that will pay $1200 to win and $400 to start. This will be a three tire race.
Feedback from the International Four Cylinders drivers has indicated a willingness to race on Wisconsins Fastest Half-Mile. We are hoping for a good car count and a very competitive race.

Looking Back at the Night of Thrills
A beautiful night greeted fans on the Fourth of July for the MIS Night of Thrills. Highlighting the action was a 300 lap four cylinder enduro race, a train race, and a gauntlet race.
Todd Welsing of Denmark, Wisconsin, won the four cylinder enduro by topping a field of thirty-six cars from throughout Wisconsin. Several of our weekly drivers were on hand to compete including Shaun Scheel who garnered a top ten finish, Kyle Stark, who led the race early on, Tom Bleecker, and Chester Ace. It was great to see former MIS Super Late driver Greg DiMaggio back at the speedway.
The racing was very competitive considering that the majority of the drivers had never been on the track. There were no hot laps so lap one was the first for nearly thirty of the drivers. The only major incidents were a couple of tires flying off cars and two fires that brought out the red flag. Randy Padfield of Stoughton brought his car around the track in flames as the safety crew chased him down to cool his car off.
James Rosenburger won the five team train race. Fans got to witness the train of nationally recognized stunt driver Gary Oscarson go through the outside wall on turn two of the quarter mile. Fortunately Oscarson and his co-pilot were not injured.
Oscarson then piloted the little red school bus for the gauntlet race and was doing a great job of fending off the five vehicles whose task was to stop him. Running forward and in reverse, Oscarson maneuvered his way around the track until being forced into one of the tractor tires which punctured his gas tank. Brandon Skolaski brought out a BMW and Chester Ace got his car on its side in their attempts to thwart Oscarsons progress.
The Kinder brothers, Alex and Marcos, won the recliner races and picked up a cash prize and a case of Pepsi. Twelve teams competed in this years event that was coordinated by Chuck West of the Turn Four Kids Club.
All of the events were taped for the Lucas Oil On the Edge series. The date and time that the event will be aired is unknown at this point.
Hats off to Matt Rowe of 141 Speedway for all of his assistance with the enduro event. Matt proved that he can do it all when he stepped up and sang the National Anthem.
Chester AceThe Ironman
Chester Ace proved he may be one of the most versatile competitors at MIS on Friday. After competing in the 300 lap enduro race where he picked up a top twenty finish, he entered the recliner race and pushed Brooke Ace to a second place finish. After the recliner race he hopped in a car and was out for the gauntlet race.
