Yellow Book USA Midwest AllStars to open 2003 campaign at Wis. Int. Raceway

KAUKAUNA, WI -- The 2003 Yellow Book USA Midwest AllStar late model stock car series will begin Sunday afternoon, May 18. The traditional Budweiser Fall special event has been shifted from Fall to Spring. The Memorial Day NASCAR Re/Max race of the past years has been eliminated. "This is just a logical shift for us," said track owner Roger Van Daalwyk. "We'll be running a drag racing event the second weekend in September and moving the Budweiser stock car race to May 18," he noted. The event will officially be known as the Budweiser Spring Classic with the Yellow Book USA Midwest AllStars to be the featured division onthe half-mile paved track with a 100-lap feature. The Yellow Book USA Mid-Am Super Trucks and limited late models will both run 30-lap features. Figure 8 racing will also be included on an inner quarter-mile. Also on the card will be the Jim Pagel Memorial Dash, a 6-lap race for the 6 fastest qualifying late models in memor of the late
Jim Pagel, who was killed in a Thursday night qualifying accident at the track.

The super trucks have also competed at WIR during the Fall race annually and May 18 will be the only WIR appearance for the 500 horsepower machines in 2003 at Kaukauna. "We have our 20 new super truck teams getting ready for 2003 and hope this Spring race will also showcase those vehicles. They are extemely popular with the fans and are very similar to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck in appearance," said series director Gary Vercauteren. The Yellow Book Midwest AllStar late model series is expected to include 14 events in 2003, the same number as 2002. A complete schedule is expected to be released shortly.
