$122,540 awarded at Yellow Book USA Mid-American and MARS racing banquet

STRUGEON BAY, WI -- A total of $122,540 in ppoint fund money and contingency awardeds were presented at the Yellow Book USA Mid-American Stock Car, Super Truck and Midwest AllStar Racing Series banquet Saturday night at the Leathem Smith Lodge in Sturgeon Bay. Jeff Van Oudenhoven of Kimberly, WI topped over 150 different drivers to capture the Midwest AllStar Series title. "We ran over 50 races this year with 11 wins and finished in the top ten almost very time out," Van Oudenhoven said. "That's a tribute to my car owner and crew. This is certinaly the best year of my racing career," Van Oudenhoven said. Bill Prietzel of Franklon, WI emerged as the Mid-American Stock Car champion for the second time in his career with over 130 different drivers racing in the touring series. "i had an unbelievable year. My worst finish was eighth. That's never happened to me before," Prietzel said.

Donnie Woller of Merrill, WI led the way in the Mid-Am Super Truck division with 44 different drivers competing. "I've got to thank my crew, engine builder and all the other competitors. I got a lot of help from the other teams and everybody really got along in this series," Woller noted. Rookie of the year were Bob Danes of New Holstein, WI in the late models, Kevin Lee of Homestead, IA in the Mid-American cars and John Froelich of Chippewa Falls, WI in the super trucks. Chuck King of Lombard, Il was cited as the champion and rookie of the year in the newly organized Midwest Stock Car Classics division. Some 26 drivers went home with checks of over $1,000. Point fund sponsors were Yellow Book USA, Hoosier Racing tires, Trubo Blue Racing Fuel, Valvoline, B & B Race Engines, Lynch Chev-Pointiac-GMC, Zaborek Insurance,Fuel Safe Racing Cells and QuarterMaster.

Jamie Iverson of Escanaba, MI, second place finisher in the late model division, took home the biggest single prize of the night. He won the JW MotorSports/A-1 Auto Parts sponsored late model racing engine. The top eight late model drivers in points had their names placed in a hat and Iverson was the winner. A Lefthander late model chassis and Five Star Body went to Van Oudenhoven. Lee and Froelich also won Five Star Racing Bodies as year - long best appearing top vote getters. Pace Trailers presented $6,800 in cash awards to product users in the Mid-Am Truck and Mid-American Stock Car Series. Lee earned a Mid-American chassis from Tech One Race Cars of Monee, IL. Zander Radio Systems of Shawano, WI presented radio packages worth over $800 each to the rookie of the year in each division. Gary Girard, operations manager at the Milwaukee Mile, outlined the four divisions participation in the Governor's Cup weekend August 27-29 to be run in conjunction with the ASA Series. Other certificate presentations were made by Valvoline, Carrea Shocks, Coleman Machine, B & B Race Engines, AFCO, M & R Racing, Beway Race Products, Diamond Wheels, Door County Coffee, Leathem Smith Lodge, Car Quest, Fuel Safe, Schoenfeld Headers, Intercomp and Bassett Racing Wheels.

Series meetings on Dec. 6 at the Green Bay Racers auction include a 10 a.m. session for the Mid-Am Trucks and Mid-American Stocks Cars and a 2 p.m. session for the MARS late models. Series officials Mike Lemke, John Leverance and Mike Panure received gifts from series owners Gary and Kay Vercauteren.
