Vintage stock car racing continues to show growth in Midwest with 11 races set in 2004

BAILEYS HARBOR, WI -- Vintage paved track stock car racing continues to show growth in the Midwest. During the past several racing seasons vintage stock car groups have been formed for competitive events by Mid-American Racing, IMCA Old Timers and SCCA Midwest Council. The cars are either actually former NASCAR, ARCA or USAC stock cars or they are reproductions of those cars. Mid-American and IMCA also permit former short track stock cars from the 1950s and newer. In race events last year fans saw 1957 Chevies racing against nearly new NASCAR machines. Some of the cars are just a year or two off of the NASCAR circuit. The drivers race for no prize money, although some events offer travel assistance money. The Mid-American sanctioned events offer a
point system and year end contingency awards. SCCA competitive licenses are required for road racing events.
