WEST ALLIS, WI -- Drivers competing in the Yellow Book USA
Midwest AllStar Late Model Series, the Mid-American Stock Car Series and Mid-Am
Super Truck Series will all be involved in the revival of the Governor's Cup
Weekend at the Milwaukee Mile August 27-29. The group's fourth division, the
Midwest Stock Car Classics, will also be involved along with the American Speed
Association (ASA). The announcement came Saturday night at the Yellow Book USA
racing divisions' banquet at the Leathem Smith Lodge in Door County. "We
put up a new 45,000 seat grandstand last year and you'll see some improvements
to the infield this year," said Milwaukee Mile vice-president and general
manager Mark Perrone. "We invite drivers from all the divisions to compete
at The Mile in 2004," Perrone said. "We had two of your divisions
race with us last year and everyone did a great job. We're excited about our
expanding racing efforts at The Mile and we want you to be part of it,"
Perrone explained.
Gary Girard, operations manager at The Mile, went over the tenative
schedule which calls for a 40-lap Yellow Book USA Mid-Am Super Truck feature,
a 40-lap Mid-American Stock Car Series feature and a 10-lap Stock Car Classics
race Saturday, August 28. Practice and qualifying for the Yellow Book MARS and
ASA divisions will also be August 28. Last chance qualifying races will be added
as needed. Main events for the MARS and ASA divisions will be Sunday, August
29. Preliminary practice will be held in all divisions Friday, August 27. "We'd
like to get all the best drivers from the Midwest to compete in this weekend,"
Girard said. "We are also going to arrange some open practice dates throught
the Mid-American and MARS officials," he concluded. Information about the
